Torts Wants More Energy

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

After yesterday's practice John Tortorella addressed the team's effort during their 4-1 victory over the Islanders Thursday night...

“At times, it was OK. I really wanted to try to play four lines last night just for energy purposes. I still don’t think we’re playing with enough energy. With the combinations I had, I felt comfortable in doing that. Some were better than others. I’m not sure if they’ll stay together. We’re still trying to find that right mix as we go through here. I still think we need more tempo in our game. It wasn’t bad. I thought for a lot of the New Jersey game, we were better as far as flow through the neutral zone and our forechecking. We score some timely goals and it certainly wasn’t all bad. We just have to continue to improve.”

...when the Rangers were really struggling the first two weeks of the season, I refused to use the lack of training camp as an excuse for this team, but as I see the team gradually getting better and their game rounding in shape maybe there was something to that theory.

...now that we're almost a month into the season Torts has been able to assess the team make the proper adjustments to strategy or the line-up and it seems like he's finally got the right mixture.

Here's video of his entire presser as well as Dan Girardi discussing his injury...

@TheNYRBlog also can't discount the loss of the capt and what continues to be poor transition defense from the top 2 Offensive lines.

they're kind of changing their identity on the fly.....they needed to tweak their system cause of the guys that aren't with the team anymore, and the guys they brought in......JT Miller and Kreider with Hags and with  Cally back definitely adds more speed to the lineup.....lets hope for the best and they get on a nice roll....big game tomorrow night against the Bolts who can b a little weary from their game today against Boston being moved from a day game to a night game......no excuse to not take it to them, we'll b the more rested team......LGR

@Dudeinski The Bolts game being changed should be a huge advantage for the Rangers. Their travel should be awful too.

@KevinDeLury @Dudeinski agreed I saw that yesterday and that was the first thought in my head. Also I traded Boyle and a 5th for Ryan Jones on NHL13 yesterday and he scored on his first shift...Boyle hadn't scored in 20 games. If NHL13 has taught me anything, this will happen in real life. Just like checks through the glass happen every game and Chara's unforgettable check on Crosby that send him into the forth row. DO IT SATHER!

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG  @KevinDeLury  @Dudeinski Bolts game in Boston was cancelled tonight so now Tampa has to do their best to travel to NY.... but that's the Rangers luck that the Bolts have more time to travel now without having to play tonight.....lol

@Dudeinski lets hope torts keeps rolling four lines and gives the team a chance! The fourth line is much more viable than last year and the added jump was very positive last game!

@TheNYRBlog if they start to play better and more consistent as we move forward, it has to be that. But big if and they have to do it first
