Torts: Kreider & Miller Going to Take Some People's Jobs
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
After last night's 3-1 loss John Tortorella discussed the play of Chris Kreider and J.T. Miller...
"They're probably going to take some people's jobs. I'll tell you about our hockey club right now, we have some guys who are really playing hard and we have some guys who look scared and tentative. Very happy with Kreider, I thought he played well. I thought Miller was hard on the puck. Did some really good things. We'll see where we go with our line-up. I tell you right now, I'm not waiting. We have some guys who are very tentaive. Very careful. And we don't play careful hockey."
...nice Torts! I love that he put his players on notice. Their play is absolutely unacceptable and they need to start being held accountable.
...if I had to guess, I'd think Torts is talking about Boyle, Stepan and maybe even Gaborik.
Here's the video of Torts' post game presser...
Here's video of the players thoughts...
...it's scary when you can see the players are at a loss right now as well. This team has no identity. Getting close to the 1/4 pole of the season, so they need to figure it out and figure it out soon.

get rid of Stepan.... Open Net on the pp and miss? If you are in the NHL you hav no busniess missing a opean net
Miller did look pretty great out there... but as Kevin said it's easy to stand out when the rest of the team looks completely out of sorts. Awful turnovers, no battle... what happened to the team that played against Tampa? I do understand that Girardi is the heart of our D... but man am I disappointed that no one stepped up to lead the team last night. I'm also wondering why no one thought to go after Clarkson. If you look back at a lot of player interviews NOBODY LIKES HIM! For the first Rangers Devils game of the season I am really disappointed in the lack of physicality. Let's hope they can figure it out against the Islanders...
Somebody....dial up Marek Malik if you have to....he'd be almost as good right now!
Nothing about the Rangers has been amazing thus far. It's mostly Hags playing tentative, but Stephan has been ineffective. If you could turn off icing and offsides like in NHL 13, then yeah...they look great!
How about Torts sit that bum Del Zotto? Stupid mistakes all over the place...and not just last night (if everything is based on last night, George).
Whats J.T. gotta do to get a RANGERS shirt? Guys rocking a whale t-shirt and he was one of the better players on the ice tonight.
I don't understand how the Rangers go from being SO good end of last season to SO awful at the beginning of this one. This is killing me.
Boyle is definitely one of the guys in danger. Torts may demote or bench Gabby during a game, but he's not going to scratch a 40 goal guy on a team that has trouble scoring just to send a message. I don't think Stepan is one of the guys in trouble either. It seems like Torts puts him out there is key situations and even double shifts him. My guesses would be that Boyle, Asham, and Halpern would be the guys that could sit. Still though, it's not panic time, it's 9 games and they're only 6 points out of 1st. Get on a roll and they are back at the top. You can definitely see improvement, except for the PP. They should probably just take penalties when they get PPs to play 4 on 4, they would have more success!
Not sure what game you're watching but Stepan doesnt need to be benched. He has played better in the last few games. The Pyatt, Stepan, hags line was amazing in the last 2 games. Gaborik should be benched. He has horrible in the game last night.
I think Richards has also really under impressed. I mean he has all he can ask for in Gaborik and Nash, but what does he have 2 goals and 5 assists. That's unacceptable
@slapshot13j 100% agree. He's been passing up open shots left & right and making a lot of questionable decisions with the puck, especially on the PP. Very frustrating to watch lately.
If the rangers keep miller around, watch the Bobby ryan rumors heat up again with Stepan as a centerpiece
@the1andonlydg we don't need another star we need an identity, and some grit
I like it. Boyle and Stepan had awful starts this season, Hags is slowly improving... Gaborik played like a pussy last night. Rookies coming into to create some job competition is definitely a good thing... Miller played some fine Tortorella hockey. Kreider was flying.
Stephan needs to be benched. He's worthless right now. If anything he's hurting the team.
And who is going to hold Torts and his coaching staff accountable? I'm sorry but the power play has been too bad for too long. Same result different players. At some point you have to start looking at the coaching staff.
Their Powerplay needs a bomb from the point and Delzaster is NOT that at all. I actually like girardi there. He gets the shot on net. Even McD would be better.
@Brianreich94 The straight up bomb rarely gets through a clusterfuk of players. This team needs to learn how to shoot off a pass (re: one timers)...which they NEVER DO. Watch Tampa.
Gaborik is definitely one of those scared and tentative players. Last night he played perimeter hockey , stayed out of traffic and away from contact. Kreider is a horse and he need to play a regular shift. He seems to have some chemistry with Richards
not going to happen....shortened season means that Torts can huff and puff, but if he doesn't play these players and Rangers don't make playoffs, he's GONE
