Video: Stepan's PP Goal Because We Don't Get To See Them Too Often

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Pretty ironic that one of the prettiest power play goals you're ever going to see came from one of the worst power play units you're ever going lay your eyes on. And since we don't get to see Rangers power play goals too often, I figured I had to post it...

...got to hope this goal does something to get the confidence going on the power play. Would love to see Sullivan draw up a few more of these beauties. If he does, I might have to start thinking about not criticizing him anymore. I said might.

...to Stepan. I know one power play goal doesn't magically make him a better player than Ryan O'Reilly or confirm my belief that the Rangers are better off with their homegrown center. What it does prove is that the Rangers have enough talent in their locker room to make another run at the Cup without having to scour the league for upgrades. Seriously, when does that strategy ever work for the Rangers?

...that Del Zotto pass was pretty sweet as well. His potential is there he just needs to become a better student of the game. Someone please get him in a room with Brian Leetch.

I thought the pp wasn't as bad last night. I actually liked a lot of what I saw. Really cerebral movement. Very fast at times, but could shoot more. I'm watching the game again and I don't have too many complaints.

It will difficult to get Leetch with MDZ through the Rangers organization because I am pretty sure Leetch hates Sather for trading him.

Now if they would only shoot the puck... Maybe we might score a few more.

Very true, in fact, as pretty as it was, it actually annoyed me slightly because it shows what they're capable of. I do have to say that the power play was much better overall. I've said on here before and Torts mentioned it last night when Engblom interviewed him, the problem they've been having is that the PP actually deflates the team and energizes the opponent most of the time because it does absolutely nothing. At least last night there was zone set up time on most of the 5 chances they had and they scored the nice goal. If you look at the seasaon so far as a whole, they've played their best hockey in games where they have the fewest PP chances. That can't continue or they ain't going very far. Signs of hope, yes, but they have to continue to improve it if they want to compete in, August is it this year?

It's amazing what a face-off victory and a little confidence with the puck can do. A clean win by Richards allows Nash to possess the puck, and as he moves across the blue line the Rangers start rotating and Washington's D is all over the place, opening seams for passes and shots. Our other strategy of one guy stick handling around near the wall and everyone else watching doesn't do that.

Nash has been doing that since day 1, but this team will go a lot further and look a lot better if Richards can start playing with some confidence.

I would love to see Brian Leetch brought on the bench to coach the D.  Would do wonders for our team, I guarantee it.

@KevinDeLury  @slapshot13j haha, nothing could.  Can't get much worse than 30th in the league. And I still really like Nash up top, a lot more than Richards or Del Zotto.  He started this goal by opening up the ice.
