BREAKING NEWS: the #NYR have acquired forward Darroll Powe and Nick Palmieri from MIN in exchange for forward Mike Rupp— New York Rangers (@NYRangers) February 4, 2013
Powe will join the Rangers while Palmieri is headed to the CT Whale.
Powe is pointless in eight games with the Wild this season and carries a cap hit of $1,066,667 this year and next year.
Palmieri is pointless in nine games with the Wild this season.
...i like the move. Now that Rupp can't even win a fight, he was basically useless out there.
...obviously Torts completely lost confidence in Rupp as evidenced by his lack of playing time. Don't know much about either guy coming back, but if they were playing for the Wild they know how to play defense, which I'm sure Torts will like.
i agree but what did we get in return another shot blocker. Does this mean Cally won't be back as originally stated????
So much for Rupp replacing Avery. Torts your an ass stop threatening guys like they are midget hockey remember u r replaceable to
Can't complain..Rupp was garbage and Powe will help in the PK and shot-blocking aspect. Palmieri could turn out to be a great addition too.
Powe's stats from last season:
Six goals, seven assists, 151 hits, 91 blocked shots, averaged 13:59 per game and 2:27 on the PK.
Just getting rid of him is a good move, can't remember one time where i was impressed with him this season. And it clears space for Mashinter to come up too, beautiful. Just have to research these two other guys now. Assuming Powe's our newest addition to our dreadful 4th line...
this is an amazing move. not based on what we got in return in talent but that we got such a good return for a skating side of beef! if we could get this for rupp imagine what we could get for boyle!
He was useless from the get go. Never understood why the Rangers let go Shelly and got him. The rangers just should have kept Orr.
Man, I know a lot of folks around here have been fed up with Rupp, but I'm sure gonna miss him ... Not! I wish him the best and all that, but man he was starting to drag me down. Just seeing him on the ice was depressing me. It does look like we're stocking up on bottom six players and AHL call-ups. It's a lot of dead weight until some of these guys step up and compete for a spot on the team. I know lines are going to change, but can we get a roster established sometime soon?
Sure I like the move - but we're shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic unless we actually add some depth to the 3rd line and figure out the PP.
Didn't read all the comments after the win vs Bolt but i thought Stralman played well.
LOL Wild, all set for your next winter classic. Enjoy the punching bag! The force has a strong influence on the weak-minded. Thanks Chuck.
Send both to the ahl and bring up mashinter. And btw prust was a poor man's player. So you can't have a poor mans prust
Great move! Outside his performance in the Winter Classic last year, what has Rupp done for you? The guy stinks!
Powe definitely a good penalty killer and if my memory serves me correct, he can skate pretty well and he is only 27 years old.
WTF??? Sather is an absolute Jedi to be able to get not one but 2 players for Rupp and his 230 lbs of uselessness. I don't know anything about them, but it looks like Powe is a decent bottom 6 player. According to Hockey's Future, Palmieri may have some upside as a top 6 mucker. Always good to gain some youthful size. I just really can't believe Sather got ANYTHING of value back for Rupp.
@JoshKaye Blocked shots and pk time? like him already. Hopefully he can fit right in.
@JoshKaye Thanks for sharing.
@soccaP3 From what I'm hearing good pk guy who blocks a ton of shots.
@AG_Blue With Kreider likely not playing tomorrow leave the first three lines alone and make a new guy line of Miller-Powe-Mashinter.
@AG_Blue Powe seemed to play a lot as a right winger for the Wild. I checked for those stats too.
@gravey94 Amen. No problem with Bickel playing as a forward on the fourth line to beat the shit out of guys like Sesstito.
@chrisD With Cally and Kreider coming back in the next two weeks, I think this trade along with Miller/Mashinter call-ups have the Rangers in a much better position depthwise than just a few days ago.
@AnnoyingJoe seriously! how did sather turn rupp into 2 players!?
@KevinDeLury Prust was a poor man's Prust until he got to the Rangers. Amazing what a change of scenery can do sometimes!
@KevinDeLury i would guess hes a more intense blair betts.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG High metachlorian count I suppose...
@gravey94 That's a great point.
@ry_man I can live with that.
@gravey94 Sather must have naked pictures of every GM in the league.
