Rangers Had Two Scouts at TOR-BUF This Weekend

Written by James Wrabel on .

According to The Fourth Period, the New York Rangers are still searching for depth up front at the forward position after not signing Jason Arnott, who failed a physical last month after agreeing to a one-year deal. The site reports that New York had scouts out observing this weekend.

Two of the Rangers' pro scouts attended Saturday's game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres, and both clubs are believed to be active on the trade front.

There was a Rangers scout at the Panthers-Sabres game on Sunday.

...First the Sharks had their scout attend two straight games as Kevin informed us yesterday, now the Rangers have their scouts attending two Sabres games. However, this means nothing of a trade being imminent. It's just scouts doing their jobs so proceed with caution.

...Looking at the Sabres roster, the only players I could see fitting in New York are Jochen Hecht or Patrick Kaleta. However, both signed new deals in the offseason so I'm not sure if they're even available. Hecht would provide some faceoff help and Kaleta is one of those gritty forwards you hate to play against.

...Maybe Sather wants to trade Stu Bickel for John Scott.

Scott from buff would be nice. I don't know much about the pair in the Rupp trade though. Extra toughness there?

Glen sather must have been listening... Mike rupp is gone. Thanks for the winter classic but it was time. I'll miss the rupper but he had no place on this team. Welcome Darrel powel

To be honest I'd rather see the Rangers try to turn it around with what they have. No reason to make a move just to make it. Although I still think Mashinter can help this team.

Hecht, Bozak, McArthur, and Steckel all have a year left on their deals and the Rangers right now still need more depth - the ideal fit/price is a "tweener" type who can Swiss Army knife up and down those bottom 2 or 3 lines (i.e. a Ruslan Fedotenko type)...It's why Arnott on paper was a nice fit.  I'm not entirely familiar enough with each of these players games to know which would fit best for Torts and the Rangers identity (tho Hecht has played forever for Lindy Ruff).  I don't see any of the current Rangers roster (where there was already far too much turnover from last year) getting moved so it'd have to be a pick or prospect.

@jasonshyer bozak and Mcarthur are nice players that can shift up and down the line up, much like dubi and arti used to...Toronto just gave Mcarthur an "A" so  I assume they are looking to resign him and Bozak would be used in a package to get a star player...something the Rangers aren't giving up. For the right price though one of those 2 would add some nice scoring depth

Rangers have made no bones about it, they are looking. After Saturday's win and hopefully return of Kreider tomorrow there won't be such an urgent need anymore.
