Rangers 0, Canadiens 3

Game Summary:
LOLOLOLOLOL
Observations:
Tough to watch a team that barely plays like they care...
Rangers played a good "road period" to start... very physical, 15 hits in the first, kept the Habs chances to a minimum. Rangers led 6-3 in shots.
However, the next 40 minutes was easily among the worst I've ever seen out of the Rangers. The second period alone easily ranked among the worst hockey the Rangers have produced, they had no answer for the Habs third line (Eller, Galchenyuk, Cole) for the second straight game.
For those hating on Del Zotto should watch Matt Gilroy's second period, I get McDonagh was hurt, but what is this guy doing on the PK? He was on the ice for all 3 goals against.
McDonagh gets plastered along the glass by Max Pacioretty and no one comes to his defense... then again, it has been like that all season as guys have gone down so why bother at this point...
RIchards had the best seat in the house for Galchenyk's goal... poking your stick out isn't much of a deterrent against the speedy forward.
Miller needs to be much more decisive with the puck, he led a 3 on 1 in the second period only to stick handle his way into a turnover for Montreal, one of the rare golden chances the Rangers had all game.
Call-up Christian Thomas played ok,12:46 TOI, 2 shots, saw power play time...
Gaborik needs to be much better than he's played since Nash went down, well deserved benching in the third...
I have to question what Girardi was thinking, exposing his ankle like that to a Subban shot late in a game that was well out of reach. Already down McDonagh and Del Zotto, no need to put yourself in harm's way as well.
Shame it took Biron getting run late for the Rangers to show any heart that was sorely needed from someone during that pitiful showing of a NHL franchise.
What's left of the Rangers + Whale call-ups host the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday.

Pacioretty is smiling at 0:22 because he cant believe EVERY RANGER ON THE ICE HADN'T JUMPED ON TO HIS BACK AFTER THAT BOARDING HIT. to quote torts, gutless.
our top lines are too soft and we don't have a dman on the ice to answer the bell.Knew before the season started, teams would run and intimidate our top lines.Need a least one "Ott" type player. And we need a crease clearer.W/o Girardi and McD forget this season.Trade Gabby now before we get nothing for him.Maybe we can get O'Reilly and a decent dman for him.And throw Gilroy in just to get rid of him.Gives them the offensive dman they want. And the Rags should keeps the kids up and play 4 lines.
Is it me or does Richards suddenly feel like Scott Gomez. Maybe it's time for McDonaugh trade #2.
@rangersfan I think the Habs may have pulled the wool over Slats eyes... I never would have said Prust was worth the big money, but he's playing well and seems to be earning his keep. Maybe Torts didn't trust him enough?!?
This team is SOFT. No heart. No spark. 1 period of Hockey will never be enough.
I don't know about the rest of you but this season is 1/3 of the way through, and I'm officially hitting the panic button. Injuries aren't an excuse when you play like you don't give two shits. I can swallow losses when the effort is there but man that was ugly.
I'm so tired of Richards. Bench him. Dude is winded. All the time. And gets throw around like he's in high school.
Your best D Man gets rubbed out by Pacioretty and you stand there like a bunch of deer in head lights? Really??! Where the f*ck is this team's pride? Where's the "Jam"? The Swagger?? Getting pushed around by Montreal?? There the smallest team in the league.
Where's our Prust? Where's our Avery? Where's our Orr? Where's our heart? We looked scared. We look young. We look like we don't want it. I know I'm a broken record but they never should of let Prust go.
There's more to this game then scoring goals.
@Iron Mike -- the young guys were some of the only ones that looked like they do want it, they're just not experienced enough. Miller seems to maintain his compete level and Kreider looked better last night.
Obviously no argument about how soft this team is. No heart. No "jam."
That was really one of the worst games I've ever seen. They're stringing bad games together here.
@AG_Blue Agree. Really hard to watch, I should have just turned it off, I'd be in a better mood today lol
Prust, Avery...Avery. One could say that Torts, Slats and co. have neutered this team with some of their moves over the past few years in terms of toughness. ur telling me Orr wasn't worth $1 Million per?
@AnnoyingJoe @AG_Blue Neutered hits the nail on the head. I'm starting to loose faith in Torts, not that I was ever a huge fan. Just sayin'...
What the hell are they doing out there? I know Boyle isn't as quick to fight as he was in 2011, but someone needs to step up and make a statement. Play with passion. This is a pro hockey club, scare your opponent out of dirty plays and when they fuck around make them pay. And Girardi man.... I know you play to the end but down 3-0 late, reg season 5 on 3, don't stick your leg out. Let Biron get that one for you. Toughest night since May or longer.
@Iron Mike @JoshKaye Ah! I'm seeing the video component to your post now (wasn't loading). Yeah, Redden stepping up is ballsy, something this team doesn't have. Nice post.
Anybody remember this team? Yea this is what we are missing and we dont have to fire the coach or get rid of anybody we just need to find another Avery/Prust with the heart and balls to stick up for their team.
You people are insane. Calling for Torts to be fired? For playing Girardi? Please... You play hard till the end, you dont give up. He made the right move. You don't stop playing to win just because you are down 3-0. That is not the right attitude to have. Season over? 4 games ago we where putting it together, now all of a sudden everyone is bailing on the season? I would call you all frauds but I dont want to continue the negativity you guys are exhibiting towards our team. We lost Nash and a key depth player in Powe, and we suck in the Bell Centre for some reason. We aren't playing well i know, but for the love of all that is holy relax with all the negativity towards richards and torts and the rest. If they start winning again and playing like they should, you will all be saying how great they are... and you are frauds for doing so. Support your team, be critical but be realistic, and not so prone to the ups and downs of professional sports.
@ivanricov Finally....a voice of reason. Thank God there are still some fans who get it. Thank you Ivanricov.
@ivanricov I understand your point i.e. the negativity and singling out players but sorry dude, we deserve more. Richards is a top tier player in this league and needs to perform and be held accountable. Frankly, he deserves the criticism. I'm being completely realistic. This team is lacking real heart even in the games we've won, and I'll be the first to call out players when we're winning. Richards is only one of many, and if you don't see it, you're in denial.
@Iron Mike and since when do we "deserve" anything and why? Based on what exactly? That is such a entitled attitude. Just try to enjoy the game. I wasn't happy about it either, but people go too far.
@Iron Mike Dear Iron Mike, If you went trading your players every time they didn't preform you would never be able to remember anyone on your team. Hank wasn't playing too well at the beginning of the season and neither was Hags. Gabby had long stretches of inconsistency last year, and scored 40 goals and an overtime winner in the playoffs. You can look on any team and find players struggling. Its part of sports. People get hot, then get cold and vice versa. Lots of variables involved in these things. It's called patience and realism. I am not saying don't be critical, torts is benching players for bad play, but try to be patient, aka wait more than 15 games into a season, before we sell off the team. You have to let things breathe and see what you have before you do drastic things like trading and firing people. Just my opinion.
@ivanricov @Iron Mike -- this isn't a couple guys slumping or being inconsistent, this a couple guys that are playing and nobody else. This is a gutless team right now. The Rangers don't deserve anything right now, because they're not earning it.
@ivanricov agree 100%...injuries are killing us right now...when we had a full team we were stringing some wins together....well get healthy and be fine..there is still plenty of season left
Some of you guys sound like a bunch of bandwagoner sallies who just came here last season when the team started doing well. A rough start to a shortened season that's only 1/3rd of the way through, and a slew of devastating injuries, and you're talking buying out our #1 center, firing our coach, and making ridiculous trades? Have some goddamn sense. I check this blog everyday, but lately it has started to sound like an echo chamber of bandwagoner idiots / wannabe NHL hockey coaches.
This team doesn't need another useless fighter like Haley to be called up and have a useless fight with another useless 4th liner. What it needs is someone on the team to start getting mean. Start some after the whistle shit. Slash, crosscheck, facewash, start a fight, stick up for your teammates. As the Emperor once said, "Let the hate flow through you. I can feeelll your annnggeeerrr." Dubinsky used to do that for us. Prust was always that guy. McDonagh started getting meaner but now he's out. So, what? Until someone steps up we're gonna flounder and be lucky to play .500 hockey. Firing Torts, buying out Richards, and trading Gaborik is NOT a solution.
@coontzbloontz you beat me to it man... thanks for being sane. Glad im not the only one.
It's come to the point where one of two things is going to happen. A) We continue to underperform, fail to make the playoffs and it's time for a top to bottom change or B) We scrap our way into the playoffs and everyone talks about how we performed above expectations considering the hardships we faced this year. After situation A it's time to invest in a young goalie, it's time to consider buying out Brad Richards, and maybe come July it's time to give Lindy Ruff a call. After situation B Torts has a chance to work this squad for a full season with a full training camp, but Richards, Gaborik, Nash, Lundqvist, Biron etc. are all a year farther removed from their prime. #Herewego8seedherewego
season is done. sorry to say it. i cant see us making the playoffs by playing like this and with our top 2 dmen out. hopefully not full time.
@ry_man i know its tough, but were 1 game under .500. They have plenty of time to get their act together.
4 games ago, I thought Rangers were starting to pull it together. Last 3 games were garbage. They should be embarrassed of their performances. Before every game, Rangers should replay Habs coach and bench laughing as Biron lays on the ice. Make this equivalent to Joe Thorton calling the team "soft" last year.
Well if Girardi and McD or even MDZ are gonna be out a while mabye give Florida a call about Brian Campbell. Even if them three aint hurt he would help. Plus he could QB the powerplay. Probably won't happen due to his contract though. Just some wishful thinking.
@LMSWillis Yandle would be great too. He also has a friendlier contract than Campbell. I kinda think Florida would be more willing to make the trade though at a better price. They don't really have any hope this year it seems like, and Phoenix does.
I think its fair to say that after watching tonights performance, Torts has officially lost the room

I cant tell if you guys are being sarcastic about G. Hes on the ice to play D & block shots, he cant just turn it on&off like a lightswitch. Torts needs to take heat for putting him in that position. Torts always preaches "protecting his players" so why does he play his top pairs 28min a game and puts his top guys on a pk 5-3 in a blowout game ?torts us gonna run himself out of town very soon.
Kinda glad I went out for sushi with family and friends instead of suffering through this one. Whoops!
This post is literally on point with my feelings right now. Losing McDonagh and Girardi will probably be the worst thing at this point. We have one of, if not the best pairing in the league right now, and losing both to me registers as rock bottom, how do you bounce back from that? I also have to think of the coming to the defense aspect. I see so many other guys coming to their teammates defenses when something like that happens, why don't we? Smack 'em up a little, who cares. I was right alongside Biron with the nauseous feeling, I literally wanted to throw up, especially watching that garbage. I don't know Girardi would put himself in that kind of position, that was extremely risky. This was one of the weakest performances I've seen, you'd think with these injuries we'd step it up, clearly it means playing as if we don't care. We're really gonna get places with that kind of attitude ...
@NYRblogneill great work on stooges. Last year had the best young defense in the league. So cliche, we were a team and that team is all gone
I wish Richards had gotten hit instead of Mcdonagh or taken that shot to the ankle instead of Girardi...
Absolutely. Richie and Gabby are playing in a confused state right now.
@slapshot13j What really pissed me off about Richards tonight is that he was on the ice when McD was boarded and just stood there and watched. You're the alternate captain! You have the responsibility to go over there and stand up for your teammate.
@KevinDeLury @slapshot13j I must respectfully disagree kevin...McD sent two canadiens to the bench with hits before he got hit back. Nobody from the canadiens jumped to their defense either. Its a hockey play, no need to get stupid. It was a clean hit. Besides torts is benching everyone who takes a penalty. They have to worry about playing the right way not retaliating on a clean hit.
@ivanricov @KevinDeLury @slapshot13j -- i'm not sure the hit on McD is clean. Looked like it was right on the numbers, illegal, and up high.
Right on. Nobody wants to take care of business on this team.
@slapshot13j I don't wish that on Richards because that would make it even harder to get rid of him
