Blueshirts United reports that after not playing Wednesday night, Dan Girardi did not participate in today's optional practice.
John Tortorella would only say that he's "not sure" of Girardi's status for tomorrow night's game against the Islanders.
...Girardi had only missed two games the last five seasons before last night, so it really must be serious for him to sit out last night. It has me a bit concerned. Especially with Torts being so mum on the injury.
In other injury news, Ryan Callahan (shoulder) was cleared for contact today and participated without limitations during today's optional practice.
Callahan would not comment on a possible return date.
...i'm always cautious when it comes to injuries, so, while the Rangers are in need of their leader, especially on the power play, I'd hate to see him return too soon and risk further injury. Great sign that he's been cleared for contact.
For the rest of Callahan's comments, watch the below video...
Dan is a tank....its really sketchy that he didnt play and there not word about him. He plays "banged up" all the time.
"whatever happened needed to happen" could girardi possibly be traded? being banged up doesn't add up to being on the morning skate saying he is ok and then beings scratched and then torts coming out and saying that just seems weird
That's my concern, Chris. Different sport, but I look at RG3. Incredible player, but look how his season ended? How much abuse can he take? He's going to have a terrific career, but it will be a few years shorter than most, in all likelihood.
I am officially hitting the panic button over Girardi. Given how things are going lately, I'm going to guess that "banged up" means he has the plague.
this is great news - considering he has 66% of our PP goals.
Hope he's close to 100% because he's said he will NOT alter his game or the way he plays in any way
I, for one, am tired of the current style of play with all of the blocked shots. It's time to open things up... to use the speed and skill that is on this team. Beyond this, the Rangers have the ability to still hit and check hard, without taking slapshots to the ankles, knees and everywhere else. They have a Vezina Trophy winner in goal. Let him do what he is paid handsomely to do. I'm tired of watching guys go down to blocks shots while I hold my breadth until they get up again. This style of play enabled the Rangers to be competitive last year... true, but ultimately, they did not win the Cup and if key players continue to get dinged up, like Girardi, they won't win again this year, either. Anyway, just venting.
Surprised Cally was cleared for contact already.
I hope we see Girardi in the lineup and playing well tomorrow night.
@nyr4life Since no one commented on this I guess I will. If we trade Girardi we better be getting a gold mine back. He is the heart and soul of our defense, and he is the reason mcdonaugh is able to flourish. Not many guys i would trade him for, but one would be Weber. And definitely would not trade him for more offense. This would be the downfall of the team if the wrong trade is made here...
@AG_Blue Cally progressing much quicker than I expected. I guess that's good.
