Nieves Stays Hot; St. Croix a Power Play Points Machine

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Jess Rubestein at the Prospect Park reports that Boo Nieves (2012 - 2nd) continued his hot play of late tallying a goal and an assist in Michigan's 7-4 loss to Notre Dame last night.

Nieves, just a freshman, now has seven points (4g, 3a) in his last three games. He has 8g, 15a on the season.

Here's video of Nieves' goal (1:50 mark)...

...very similar to Kreider and Miller, at 6' 3" this kid Nieves has size and speed. After years of having small, shifty prospects in the organization it's awesome to see the Rangers being able to recall guys who can hold-up physically to the NHL game.

In other prospect news, Rubenstein notes that Michael St. Croix (2011 - 4th) had two assists, including one on the power play, in the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-2 win last night.

St. Croix's extra man assist gives him 35 power play points (18g, 17a) on the season. He has 28g, 40a overall.

...i'd kill for a current Rangers player to have half the production of this kid on the power play. I know the Rangers can't recall him because he's in juniors, but is there anyway they can bring him up just to consult the team on the power play?

Also I always thought it was pronounced Boo "neeves" so it's good to know how to say it. A little Latin flavor on the team!

I hope St. Croix isn't an NHL bust just because of his size. I would love for him to come up and just snipe!

@TheNYRBlog would you trade a couple of them and a kid like del z for tyler myers?

Despite the rough start to the season, there is much to be excited about, future and present. This said, this team has got to get off their collective butts. I'm watching the Penguins and NJ right now and let me tell you, Pittsburgh came out flying in the opening minute and scored pretty soon thereafter on a PP. Just no excuses why the Rangers can't do the same.... they have the ability. The desire and focus seems to be the issue right now.

...Jesus 35 power play points? This kid has excited me for a long time. Next season, start him right away just for the power play. Or send Boyle in his place in juniors and have St. Croix wear Boyles number and name. Cause. No one will tell the difference...right....?

@TheNYRBlog Miller, Kreider are exactly what the Rangers needed. Hagelin is a good player but he's non-existent on the boards

@Kyle_Chris_MMA And this kid Nieves that I linked to is in the same mold.

@TheNYRBlog Nieves is a solid player he still needs to put on the weight. But with his 6'3 frame that shouldn't be difficult

@TheNYRBlog Rangers have a thing for Michigan hockey players and honestly I don't mind. NCAA players are underrated.

@Kyle_Chris_MMA Just a freshman, so plenty of time to fill out.
