Miller: I Have A Personality That's Hard to Handle

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

JT Miller has proved during his first two NHL games that he's not afraid of the moment and is confident in his abilities. While John Tortorella likes Miller's "bite" he does worry that the rookie could cross the line the other way, which he's done in the past. Miller addressed that yesterday...

"Sometimes I have a personality that's hard to handle. I always had a bad temper when I was younger. So that can get in the way. I just have to make sure I'm focused in on the game and my task."

Miller added that he's hard on himself.

...if he knows how to control his temper and channel it into being a better hockey player then it's all good. But if he starts letting some adversity negatively affect his play, Torts will have him on a bus back to Hartford real quick.

Here's the video of Miller's entire interview...

Hockey is the one sports where, if you can control it, anger can help you. The game is raw emotion as it is. Good to see he's a brutally honest person.

@TheNYRBlog IMO a bad temper is kind of necessary in a game as aggressive and rough as hockey

Why would he admit this? It seems like it could get him in trouble with other teams. Also why focus on the negative when he just had an amazing game for a young player.

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG He was just answering the question honestly. Which was actually refeshing.

@KevinDeLury I'm just saying if you tell someone you have anger problems then they're going to exploit it. But then again 97% of the league has anger issues.

@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG  @KevinDeLury Agree with Kevin, I like the honesty.  A little anger can be great in hockey but he just has to make sure he keeps it in check.  He seems very mature for a 19 year old, but an outburst here or there should be expected.  Then again if I was 19 and was making a million I'd have a hard time finding things to be mad about.

Definitely more brash than Kreider, but as Torts says a little swagger can be good. He added some much needed spark since being called up. I hope he can be a consistent contributor and keep some of the older guys motivated!

@JMK8363 Not every rookies comes up and just gets in line. Sometimes it's good to have a guy come in and shake things up a little.
