Kreider Not Letting Mixed Signals Get Him Down
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
There's been a lot of criticism from Rangers fans of the Blueshirts' handling of Chris Kreider this early season.
He's been scratched, sent to the Whale, called back up and juggled throughout the line-up. But Kreider says he's not going to worry about it (via Daily News)...
"I treat it like every other thing I need to work on. I have to have the same mindset when I get to the rink every day and go back to work because anything can happen. The next day you can be back up and playing big minutes. You could be down there for a while. It's not anything you can control. If you start worrying about the stuff you can't control, it's very easy to get thrown off and get bent out of shape and all of a sudden you're not playing the game and you're worrying."
Kreider adds that he likes to think he's mentally tough.
...one thing I've always been impressed with is Kreider's attitude. He seems like a kid who has his head on straight and won't step out of line. He knows that nothing is given to you for free in the NHL and that ice time must be earned.
...having said that, I need more emotion and passion from the kid. He almost looks lost out there sometimes. I mean, zero shots on goal last night? Meanwhile, Ottawa's stud rookie Silfverberg was all over the ice last night.
...still not giving up on Kreider or ready to call him a bust, but I'd like to see at least some flashes of what we saw from him during the playoffs last year.

@KevinDeLury damn. We really need him back, he opens so much ice for our team. And Hagelin capitalizes really well on that open ice.
As for Kreider would like to see him get some power play time. He has a rocket shot could be good up top on one of the wings, just can't be afraid to shoot like our whole team is on the power play.
I personally thought that Kreider played fairly well last night. He drew 2 penalties-----and battled. Too often this season, that was NOT the case, and he played too much on the outside. Last night was the first time he was physically involved and rushing the net to be taken down in the crease. BOYLE though was absolutely awful last night. Anyone else notice we have played much worse since he was put back in the lineup?
@LanceGold1 Agree that he was more physical last night. But zero shots on goal is unacceptable.
@LanceGold1 Boyle is terrible! A 4th line, penalty killing center at best. Leave Halpern to center the 3rd line for now. Also, can some put a missing person's report on Richards. He was terrible again last night. How many turnovers did he have with his soft passes. Neither him or Boyle EVER win battles along the boards.
@TruBluEsp @LanceGold1 Team has gone into a tailspin since Boyle unnecessarily re-inserted back into the line-up.
Sometimes lines are greater than the sum of its parts. Think Boyle/Fedotenko/Prust was similar to a ways ago of Ortmeyer/Hollweg/Moore.....sometimes when the line goes away so does the players from it. Ortmeyer and Hollweg were out of the NHL after their time together. Not saying Boyle can't turn it around but he is the odd-man out chemistry wise in my opinion right now.
@KevinDeLury @LanceGold1 And it was his penalty which led to the tying goal. Some people are already labeling Kreider a bust an the kid hasn't played a full season of pro hockey yet! The bust here is Boyle.... A former 1st round pick that has had one good year which is proving to have been a fluke. I could live with Boyle being a 4th line center but he can't drop the gloves and RARELY wins any battles along the boards or in front of the net.
@TheNYRBlog yep sure. Team struggles with puck in space, its a hot potato on everyones stick. Big contrast from other teams imo.
Wasn't he playing with Boyle and Bickel last night? That's a lot to ask of a kid to show something with those 2. I thought he played pretty well from what I saw. He drew 2 penalties, I saw him finish some good checks and he was using his speed more. The offense will come, he's still trying to learn the little things that will keep him in the NHL.
@TheNYRBlog Oh good, nice to hear you're not giving up on a rookie who has played all of 9 games.
@BillyRaids Always preference that b/c God forbid you criticize someone it's taken that you want them out of town.
@TheNYRBlog I give the kid a pass this year. No training camp, crazy schedule, roster in flux. Personally, I would have left him in HFD
@TheNYRBlog Agreed, which is why they should have left him. Why promote him for mediocre play?
@TheNYRBlog Ottawa was def taking shots at him too. That cld be something he needs to stop thinking and start playing
@TheNYRBlog I do think we saw a little bit more last night. Frankly millers play should be inspiring Kreider, he's aggressive.
@TheNYRBlog alot of those chances were created by players playing up to their ability.
@TheNYRBlog he was good last night. Drew two penalties. Tort didn't use him on the power play.
@TheNYRBlog your kidding with Kreider I hope... Kid has aged a dozen NHL games!!!!' Get on Boyle and torts. #letkreiderplay
@TheNYRBlog a handful of nhl games... He hasn't been awful..... Who has been good offensively? Why does the coach get a pass?
@TheNYRBlog @newyorkpuck I wish Kreider were still naïve and just played game, use speed. Torts has neutered him, doesn't have confidence
@TheNYRBlog @newyorkpuck he hasn't done anything since the start of the AHL season that says he's ready to be that player consistently
@Garts2point2 @TheNYRBlog @NewYorkPuck from the day he was drafted they knew this kid had to be molded, and you all need to be patient.
@ElementCo27 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck he's playing anywhere from 10-15 mins a game. He hasn't earned more.
@Garts2point2 @TheNYRBlog @NewYorkPuck Callahan had the same issue and look where he is now? Youre all expecting too much from a kid.
@Garts2point2 @TheNYRBlog @NewYorkPuck exactly. He hasnt been given consistent time to play. How does that help his career?
@ElementCo27 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck and what has he done since the goal besides bus trips subbing for injured players
@Garts2point2 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck he got robbed on Anderson deal 2 - also threw the body well
@Garts2point2 @TheNYRBlog @NewYorkPuck scoring in the shootout with a speculated concussion.
@MrRanger94 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck that's not saying much since he didn't get a shot on goal with 13 mins of playing time.
@Garts2point2 @TheNYRBlog @NewYorkPuck No... because his goal was after his chipped ankle? Oh he isnt Rick Nash, sorry.
@TheNYRBlog @garts2point2 @newyorkpuck CK was the best NYR fwd last night after Hags drew 2 penalties went 2 net hard / settle down
@ElementCo27 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck that sounds like excuses to me. Was he injured when he scores has goal this year too? He looks fine.
@tpb1990 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck I'm not ready to trade them away for a player like O'Reilly who seems be nothing but a problem child
@TheNYRBlog @garts2point2 Mashinter saw less time than Bickel. How is that possible?
@Garts2point2 @thenyrblog don't forget he was hurt. Yet the organization didn't realize it until he was here.
@TheNYRBlog @Garts2point2 @NewYorkPuck he was also injured on the Whale and on the Rangers. Mashinter wasn't.
@Garts2point2 @NewYorkPuck Mashinter had the same amount of goals with Whale in the fraction of games.
@NewYorkPuck all of our forwards are a victim to torts defensive system. It stifles the offense.
@TheNYRBlog @newyorkpuck he hasn't been impressive at all. Fans are still in love with what he did in the playoffs.
@Garts2point2 kid has barely played a dozen games. Talent like that is not taught. Coach needs to be better as well.
@JTymus I'm not "on him." Boyle doesn't get a pass, but then again Boyle can't be sent down either nor is he considered part of LT future.
@Garts2point2 your kidding with Kreider, right? He's a rookie!!!!! Get on Boyle. He's useless! #badpenalty #heshould sit
@Garts2point2 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck true. I don't think Torts will put up with it for long.
@Ewan1987 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck so did Daigle and countless others. Consistency is what makes an NHL player.
@Garts2point2 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck he'll come good! Just needs a big game to get up and running. Has shown flashes of brilliance
@Ewan1987 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck but he has fewer excuses, he's been playing hockey all season.
@Garts2point2 @thenyrblog @newyorkpuck aye he seems to be struggling with the expectation. But whole team aren't up to scratch this season
@Garts2point2 @newyorkpuck @thenyrblog yeah for now. I was just making a joke, that was purely accidental
@newyorkpuck @garts2point2 @theNYRblog and he inured our goalie, that dirty jerk #juuuustkidding :p
@NewYorkPuck agreed. Torts head scratching moves. If g is gonna give it away there id rather give kreider a whirl.
