Canadiens 3, Rangers 1

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

The New York Rangers (8-6-1) lost to the Montreal Canadiens (11-4-1) by the score of 3-1, tonight. For a box score go to Yahoo! Sports.

...first the Nash injury. I hate to speculate a concussion, but it's really looking that way. I know he's played since the Lucic hit, but as we know with Staal, concussions are tricky.

...to the game. Meh. As my buddy fleisch14 texted me, where's Mets Classics when you need it. Listen, you can't win every game and they were playing without their best player. I'd be a lot more worried if Nash was in the line-up. Although, he better be back soon or it could get ugly around here real quick.

...guess Richards was playing too hard again.

...what was that the Avalanche were saying about an O'Reilly for Del Zotto trade?

...instead of studying tape of their own power play, maybe Torts should have them studying tape of the Blackhawks'.

...you know who the Rangers could have used tonight? Too easy.

...wonder if Bickel left a book for Mashinter on the bench to entertain him. Actually, he looked pretty solid in limited minutes.

...and Montreal just iced the puck again. Oh wait, no they didn't the linesman waived it off.

..thought Kreider was better. Used his body more. Still needs to be more aggressive, too passive.

...man, I hate that third line. No coincidence that Miller's game has suffered since that line was created.

...Boyle has 19 hits in the three games since returning to the line-up. Hitting everything but the back of the net right now.

...maybe Nash isn't the reason for Hagelin and Stepan's resurgence. Thought both looked solid tonight. Sick pass from Stepan to Stralman. I bet O'Reilly can't make a pass like that.

...scary moment watching Lundqvist laboring after taking a PK Subban bomb off the shoulder. Meanwhile, shots from Rangers defensemen feel like butterfly kisses on opposing goaltenders.

...i know the game was beyond painful to watch tonight, but wow you could hear a pin drop at the Garden during that one. Guess that's what happens when the real fan is priced out.

...off tomorrow then on to Ottawa Thursday night.

@TheNYRBlog kinda ironic the team cant score since boyle has been back.

Del Zotto is going to be nothing more than a Mike Mottau in this league. I have never seen someone with so little confidence when he has the puck. Ok, well, maybe Dubinsky but he also lacks indecisiveness as well. When he has the puck in the offensive zone all he wants to do is get rid of it right away.

I bet the if Avery were on his wing that would help get  Richards going.

Mashinter didn't play bad last night. But he also didn't do anything worth mentioning either.

Miller looked good stick handling the puck. But is useless out there with two big slow behemoths.

Nice pass by Stepan and nice patience my Stralman.

Is there anything noticeable to say why Gilroy only gets 8 minuets per game? Like losing his man, not being able to get back after pinching, missing the net with shots, coughing the puck up in the offensive zone or being out of position defensively?

Wow, I sure know how to pick the games to accidently sleep through (due to a lack of sleep, I promise). Last game I did that was against the Devils. I *did* wake up just in time to see Del Zotto let the puck leave the zone on our last minute power play. That was nice to see.

I'd love to still have Prust, but that's not Sather's fault. MTL is paying him a ridiculous amount of money for what he does. He's a nice player but no way is he worth 3 Mil per for 4 years.

@TheNYRBlog O'reilly of course. Is Richards the player we think he is????

@TheNYRBlog Prust showed what's needed from our bottom 6.He's a big miss. Worrying is that we don't have last year's physical/fighting edge.

It hasn't been said but that is another lead the Rangers have blown.  Seems like they have blown more leads this year, then they did all of last year.

Del Zotto's presence offends me.  He's a disaster back there.

Can't we trade Richards for some defense help??? Can't keep rolling 4 dmen out there without them running out of gas...

This was the worst game I have seen live in awhile and by far the worst game this season.

Honestly I was at the game and the reason it was so quiet was because they lulled us to sleep. And before anyone makes a comment about Rangers fans, there were plenty of Habs fans there who weren't making a peep either. That game was so atrocious neither team deserved to be cheered.

@Melissa (blknblueshirts) thats the Canadiens system, and they played it well.  Comes down to who capitalizes on mistakes.  They did in the end on the 3-1 and we missed a couple open nets.  It happens, but i crave the return of Nash, or to play someone that plays real hockey...

Dminches

@slapshot13j  @Melissa (blknblueshirts) Not really.  They are 3rd in the east in scoring.  They play that way at times on the road, but at home they are more aggressive.  I think the Rangers were outcoached since the Habs needed to shorten the game due to playing a back-to-back.

@slapshot13j Honestly I had no idea that was how the Canadiens played. I thought the Rangers played boring hockey...I have no idea how their fans watch that on a nightly basis.

@Melissa (blknblueshirts)  @slapshot13jI watch some  games on center ice on direct TV and believe me that this is not the Canadians stile of play .They're a run and gun team especially at home ad they are an excidinng team to watch.Last night they just played down to the competition. The Rangers just suck! Last year was a fluke an it will be proved when they'll miss the playoffs (PLAYOFFS?) this season.

@ChrisP As soon as the game ended I put on the Canucks/Blackhawks game in CHI and it was the complete opposite of what happened at MSG tonight.

Who could we have used? Hmm...maybe Prust?? He was +3 tonight. Nice work, Sather. Maybe Prust was never a big goal-scoring threat bc he was regulated to a fourth line that never saw much ice time, other than to drop the gloves. Agh, whatever. Not feeling that this is our season...but, holding out hope that the boys surprise me.

@TheNYRBlog I think Torts purposely kept Nash out to make a statement "can't always rely on Nash"...I hope anyway. Cause we def need him

4-1-1 in our last 6.  But yeah, let's forgot about those 4 wins and make sure we realllly sulk about the losses.  This was an awful, awful game.  But it happens.  Del Z was terrible, as usual.  But you guys need a reality check if you think we're going to walk all over teams this year.  We had some crappy games last year too.  We're going to have games like this.  But this team doesn't get any slack.  Even after taking 9 out of 10 points in the last 5 they were still getting ripped apart.  Relax, jesus.

@boogiepicker you nailed it. People need to relax. Bad games happen. And it's not how you necessarily start but more how you finish. Ask the 2011-12 LA Kings

@boogiepicker @KevinDeLury absolutely, completely happy with the run just not happy with the amount of ice time delzotto gets, it takes 1 bonehead play for torts to bench someone but when it comes to this kid he has such a hard on for him I don't get it. Granted, were slim at d but at this point I think we'd rather see eminger out there, at least sit him for a period. Also, torts is way too top heavy, let asham, mash, and halpern get their icetime and use their physicality without being so quick to double shift Gaborik every chance he gets. But yeah you're right the run was great but with such a short season it's very easy to find our way out of a spot as well.
