Biron Starts, Rest of Line-up Remains Same

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

Steve Zipay at Newsday reports that Marty Biron will get his first start of the season tonight in Tampa Bay.

Zipay has this quote from John Tortorella on why the switch in goal...

"I want to play him tonight... we have a philosophy, we're not changing our philosophy, there's no set schedule, but Marty will play. We're not taking (Henrik) out because he's tired or anything like that, we felt really comfortable how we used our goalies last year...we're going to do the same thing this year, obviously in a more condensed situation; we feel we have two good ones there and it helped us in the second half of the year, if you do get to the playoffs."

For more from Torts' pre-game presser, click here.

...you really hate not to have Henrik in there against the high scoring Bolts, but with rivalry games against the Devils and Islanders coming up this week, I feel this is a good spot to get Biron a start.

...also, as I said in my recap of Rangers loss to the Pens, maybe starting Biron will be the wake-up call this team needs.

As far as the rest of the line-up, Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record notes that there will be no changes meaning Matt Gilroy will be on defense, with Stu Bickel back at forward and Steve Eminger in the press box. Chris Kreider participated in his first full practice since his ankle injury was disclosed, this morning, but will not play tonight.

...i thought Gilroy had a real solid game Thursday night against the Penguins. Very unnoticeable, which is a good thing for a guy making his first start of the season against Crosby & Co. Hoping now that he got his feet wet, he'll add a little more offense to his game tonight because the Rangers are going to need it.

Why, you ask, will the Rangers need more offense tonight? Well, let me think...oh, I know, because the Eastern Conference leading Lightning just came off a 8-3 pounding of the Jets last night, lead the NHL in goals scored with 37 goals (Rangers have 16) and they have four players with double digit points (Rangers have zero).

...here's to hoping the Lightning players are tired tonight from all that goal scoring against Winnipeg yesterday.

Sure give Marty a game I get it - but I think hank still needs more time in net especially against a team that can snipe like the bolts. He thrives on that kind of competition and it makes him better

This team is sorely missing Prust. Cheaper is more expensive and sadly Rupper's old ass is a pathetic waste of pine space. Asham is clueless and Bickel despite knowing how to scrap knows veryl little else about the game. I have a feeling were gonna get schooled tonight.

They were gonna add to their goal total no matter who's in the net. I wish I had more faith in the boys tonight.

Honestly, I would love to see us lose like 7-5 tonight. Maybe that's the kinda game we need to get our offense going. Of course I don't think we are gonna give up 7 but I would love for us to score at least 4+ and build some confidence before 2 huge division games

Is it really a good spot against the highest scoring team in the league? I believe Torts is setting this team up for disaster. We will find out tonight!

WHY!!!! Why does this team refuse to call anyone up to play forward? It's getting very frustrating.

Marty needed a start , I guess now is a good time to get him one, even though tampa is decimating goalies.

Wont make a bit of a difference if team cannot score. There is no cycling in the offensive zone, no high % shots on net and slow skating
