Benchings "Pissing" Boyle Off
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Matt Kalman at NHL.com reports that the recent string of healthy scratches are not sitting well with Brian Boyle...
"I'm trying not to think about anything, really, honestly. I'm just trying to come work every day and work as hard as I can because it's ... I've said it before, I didn't play as well as I think I could've, but I know I can be a good player and effective player in this League and on this team. It's infuriating sitting out, it's awful. And it's pissing me off a lot."
..it's too bad Boyle didn't play with this kind of emotion and anger earlier this year because he'd likely still be in the line-up.
...it's good that Boyle's angry. Any player who's a healthy scratch should be. Hoping he channels it the right way and can be effective when he gets back into the line-up. And he will get back into the line-up.
...seen a lot of Rangers fans wanting to trade Boyle. Why in the world would you want to trade away depth when the Rangers finally have it?
John Tortorella addressed the Boyle situation earlier today...
"When Brian gets in, like I said, I hope he never lets me put myself in this decision again. Again, I don't make the decisions on the lineup, they do. I believe Brian will be a big part of it. I just don't know when I change the lineup. It depends on what goes on with the players in each game."

I was worried this might become a distraction. Luckily I don't think this will cause too much trouble. Boyle's not going anywhere and he should come back all fired up.
Definitely not in a rush to trade, but he shouldn't be pissed at anyone but himself! Unless someone else stops performing he deserves to sit.
Boyle better not become a distraction. I don't like this pissed off crap. Don't say you're pissed, show you're pissed by winning back your job. Either that or Boyle and a draft pick can get us a nice defensemen.
kevin ur depth argument makes no sense at all.... how are u trading away depth if u get a decent player back? its not like ur losing a player... please explain cuz as of rite now ur logic is flawed
@JoeAntos If we traded Boyle, we're not going to get someone better back. Especially not now with Boyle riding the pine. So at best, trading Boyle gets back someone of equal or lesser talent, and someone who doesn't know Tortorella's system (for better or worse). So it makes more sense just to keep Boyle as a depth guy. The team has seen too much turnover from last year as it is.
@JoeAntos Good point! All but a few on this team can be traded as long as what we get back helps!
Why Dominic Moore similar stats, kills penalties, better skater, is smaller but Boyle doesn't use size anyway and Moore would save about 500k. As far as Staal totally different he actually had proven he was good player before injury. Boyle outside the Ottawa series and the two month stretch to start off 2010 season has proven to be a fourth lie center. No matter how much Sam and Joe gush over him and every other player.
@TheNYRBlog he should know how he needs to play every night by now; in NHL 28 is old, so for him it's not about potential it's about today
all i was pointing out is that he hasnt been the same since the concussion, i guess everybody was hatin on staal then too, when it took him a long time to get his game back, too many people get caught up in his size n expect him to be a physical guy, n its not his game, but hes been a very useful player for us, dominick moore, lmao,
So what keeps us from getting theotherwordfordogslapped all over the ice tonight?
Like Boston will be scared of our PP!
Accountability used to be a dirty word with the Rangers in the early 2000s. Renney began the transformation and now Tortorella has taken it to another level.
@KevinDeLury Renney was a joke, he had his favored players and they could do what they wanted and never got benched.
@TheNYRBlog i hope so, miller will take some ones spot i think Boyle should play while asham sits
Steve that more a indictment of other forwards. And the goal scoring was fluke sort of one hit wonder.
Before Torts go here allot of us were saying that we needed a coach that was tough on the players and would hold players accountable if they didn't play well, well here he is.....If u put in the effort and play well, you'll play.....I have a feeling when Boyle's able to crack the lineup again he'll play good and gives us the needed depth....We need this game tonight......Can't wait....LETS GO RANGERS
@TheNYRBlog better yet I don't want him back in lol...they are playing fine w out him
hasnt been the same since the concussion in playoffs, he was playin so well towards the end of regular season, n especially the first few games of playoffs, where he was our best forward
He has been overhyped off a good two months two seasons ago. Team should trade him while he has some value. Then sign Dominic Moore or revisit Arnott health and go from there. 1.7 for fringe fourth liner seemsexcessive.
@TheNYRBlog I don't want to trade Boyle, but asham isn't a heavyweight, and with 3 stars, 3 youngens, more wins = more pain = need a bruiser
Looks like Tortorella absolutely nailed this decision. Rangers started winning and Boyle got new perspective. When he gets back in the lineup he's not going to take it for granted and he's going to play like someone who never wants to sit in the press box ever again.
@TheNYRBlog he should have learned to fight, not his thing but would be on ice if he could.
I'm a Boyle fan but the lineup without him has been producing. He can't be that big of a guy and not use his size to the teams advantage. He was skating around like a limp noodle & not creating chances...it's a liability at this point.
In other words, we keep winning with this line up he keeps sitting. If we get seriously out muscled by Boston I could see Boyle inserted but who would you sit? Stepan? Powe?
@chrisdub -- I confess to having some difficulty seeing what Stepan is doing particularly well, but Torts sounds like he's happy with him. I thought Powe played well. The kids are probably closest to making a mistake. We're coming off two solid wins, so who would sit is not abundantly clear.
I don't miss him. His usefulness has passed. Bye bye. Maybe if He's lucky they can swing a trade with Montreal
Right now he's just waiting for someone to screw up or something. As long as everybody plays well, this guy will keep sitting. Great to have competition in the ranks, and I give Torts credit because he has been clear that nobody's spot is secure -- a spot in the line-up is yours to earn, and it's yours to lose.
@AG_Blue I'll bet he woud never sit Nash or RIchards, no metter how bad they play. ( I'm not saying that they are playing bad.) I'm a big fan of Gabby but he is almost invisable at times.
@TheNYRBlog He doesn't have a choice, he HAS to be effective or it's going to be a long season watching from the rafters...or worse.
