Avs May Have Asked for Miller or Kreider Along With Del Zotto for O'Reilly
Written by Kevin DeLury on .
Yesterday, I posted a report that the Colorado Avalanche had talked to the Rangers about a trade including Michael Del Zotto and more for Ryan O'Reilly.
Well, Adrian Dater at the Denver Post now says the "more" was likely J.T. Miller or Chris Kreider.
...LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do I even need to comment on this ridiculousness? If Colorado really thinks O'Reilly is worth Del Zotto and Kreider, you'd think they'd have no problem paying him the $5 million per he's demanding. I can't even imagine how quickly Sather hung up the phone on Avs GM Greg Sherman.
...although, after hearing this news, you have to wonder if the reason the Rangers recalled Kreider on Saturday after re-assigning him the night before might have been because this trade was close. Things that make you go hmmmmmmm.

@TheNYRBlog Good stuff! Although I don't love MDZ would losing another young D-man after losing Erixon last summer hurt us you think?
@BoogieDownDoug I think so. Del Zotto has been inconsistent but I love his potential.
by the way i would hate to give up on krieder yet, just for his personality & work ethic alone. you could also find away to add boyle & draft picks for that o'reily trade. if he's not going to play for the avs they might as well get something for him.
I think that 19 year old J.T.Miller has as much upside as ROR. And Krieder is also expected to be real good despite his struggles. Thats just from watching their games at the NHL level. So we are talking about a big risk, a lot of risk in trading either of these players. MDZ - I think everyone can see his play-good and bad- and that he has not hit his ceiling. So one on one with Colorado throwing in a pick- would be Sather's call. I'll leave it to the experts on that one. MDZ is a good player, whether or not he has haters. He is still a regular roster NHL offensive dman. Thats important enough.not to be dismissed.
krieder, a 1st & a whaler, for o'reily, a 2nd & a 3rd rounder or so. also, "only if they can agree to a contract w/ o'reily", because he either doesn't want to play for the avs or his ego is too big & if that's the case he'll be trouble down the road. the other thing is that you can't give up del zotto unless you have really good backup plans. do they have an offensive d-man they can bring up from the whale ?? don't see it.
Amazing to me that giving up Kreider, and not Del Zotto, is the deal breaker for some of you!!
Ok Andrew. Now that you're done Googling Ryan O'Reilly and looking up his stat line, how do you figure Kreider is 1st line talent??
Another thing to look at is where does Kreider currently sit in Slats' eyes. Before leaving BC he was untouchable because we didn't know what his speed could bring. After the playoffs he was untouchable because we saw what his speed could bring. Now, after struggling mightily these first 13 games, does Slats still view him as untouchable?? Or could he move him for a a kid who's the same age but with a more developed and complete game? I think it may be getting to the point where we may value Kreider a little more than Sather does.
I think Del Zotto is way overrated and if Tortorella is going to stick around he is just going to screw with Kreider's confidence and he won't amount to anything anyway. I realize I am in the minority, but I say pull the trigger. Would be nice to have a C that can actually win a big faceoff. Haven't had that since Mactavish or Larry Patey.
O'Reily is a great player, and may even very well be worth 5 million dollars. Having said that there are very few guys that I would trade Del Zotto and Kreider for, and he is not one of them. You would have to think Sather feels the same way if neither was included in the Nash deal, so I don't think we have to worry about anything happening here unless they lower their asking price. Even with it being Del Zaster he is still young and has an amazing upside, and I wouldnt get rid of him unless we get a defenseman in return because then our d-corps will be very light.
Here's the deal with oreilly. The kid doesn't have the offensive numbers to ask for 5 mill. Where the kid does the earn the money he'll eventually get is in the defensive zone. More takeaways than Datsyuk and a top face off guy. And only 46PM over 3 seasons. Defensively responsible and no stupid penalties. Torts would love this kid. Dubinsky couldn't carry this kids jock in the D zone.
@TheNYRBlog While a MDZ for OReily move intrigues me (and I'm a big MDZ proponent) adding either of those two would never happen....I hope.
@JoeBrickl @thenyrblog That's what every scientist in disaster movies says JUST before it happens!
If O'Reilly comes here I don't see a scenario where we aren't disappointed unless Sather absolutely stealing him. I think his production is going to drop big time. Think Dubi post the big contract.
Del Zotto & Kreider for John Tavares is the only trade I'd make currently.
Garth Snow might just be stupid enough to do it.
@PureLuckLLC Tavares might be a top 5 player in the NHL right now, man is that kid special. Great pick by the isles, they are on their way back to relevancy.
@slapshot13j He IS a top 5 player in the NHL right now. He made Lundqvist look pedestrian with that wrist shot a few games ago and then absolutely blew one by Hedberg like he wasn't even standing there against the Devils the other night.
Going to be a special player, so young and finally finding his game.
@PureLuckLLC I hate to give Snow any credit but he's actually done a great job. Picked up Grabner, Moulson, Nabakov and Visnovsky. Not bad.
@KevinDeLury I don't disagree, but I can't help but poke fun at someone who gave Rick DiPietro a million year contract.
I like the Islanders team to be honest. If they can get a defenseman and a goaltender (assuming they're buying out dipietro) then they'll be competitive.
@Beckfan5 @PureLuckLLC @KevinDeLury actually he did! Was one of his first acts as GM.
@PureLuckLLC Good point, all those good moves wiped away with one ridiculous contract.
@TheNYRBlog NYR trading KREIDER or JT in ANY package deal right now, bout as likely as Puriton startin on top line tomorrow lol
@Eire2Li Ha! Puriton is so bad he was a healthy scratch during the Winter Classic alumni game last year.
@TheNYRBlog Lmao I know! but I really liked how friggin nuts he was. End of an era and was a gent to meet.
@TheNYRBlog deals aside, what are your thoughts on O'Reilly and wud he be a good fit in NY?
@Eire2Li I think he'd be a great fit for the team. Faceoffs, pk, timely scoring and responsible defensively. Sounds like a Torts guy to me.
A lot of talk of how good Kreider is but he has really yet to show anything. Been pretty no existent this year. He had a nice playoff run for sure but he isn't the 1st player to do that. I want him to be good / great and maybe over time he will be but right now he is lackluster for sure. Lots of hype for little production... He doesn't even stand out when he skates with the Whale. Oh well that's just my two cents...
@TheNYRBlog wash your hands off with soap after typing such dirt. Lol CK goes no where... Give this fuckin kid a chance....
@MTopper319 I'm with you, just thought it was strange with his recall and Nash seemingly fine. Then I see this. Sorry just my inner Eklund.
@TheNYRBlog however the franchisee is severely messing with CK's head and confidence this year, doing a very poor job developing him
@TheNYRBlog I doubt he was called up for a possible trade though, sather is an idiot to give up on ck,
@TheNYRBlog exactly. Totaling screwing with his head, horrible management by the entire #NYR organization right now
@MTopper319 Just found it weird Rangers wanted him to develop but then recalled him knowing it was just for emergency purposes.
@TheNYRBlog lol, the only thing I can think of is Nash was sick, and they were just playing it safe. Nash clearly was fine by puck drop
The only Ryan I would even consider trading MDZ and Miller or Kreider for is Bobby Ryan. OK, I've considered it and wouldn't even make that trade!
@JohnPiccini LOL! The Rangers aren't the Yankees people. They don't need every available super star. They need to build chemistry not an All Star team.
Are they nuts? We didn't give Kreider to Columbus for Nash, and they think o'reilly is worth that + DZ.
@Medvjed004 Listen, O'Reilly is a good player, but I can't believe how over-valued he's been.
@KevinDeLury I know he is a good player, but he is not worth 2 players. I think that the best thing would be just to leave o'reilly alone. Direct trade O'Reilly for Del Zotto = maybe. But then we would need to bring in a new top 4 defenseman.
