During a surprise optional skate this morning, Henrik Lundqvist announced that he won't be starting for the second straight game tonight.
...one thing I've noticed with AV is that he doesn't like to rock the boat when things are going well. Which I love and completely agree with. I don't care if it means the Rangers best player is stapled to the bench for a week, it's all about putting out a lineup that gives you the greatest chance of winning at that moment.
Lundqvist, who indicated that his neck is still stiff from being run over by Chris Kunitz on Wednesday night, wasn't surprised with Talbot getting the call against the Maple Leafs...
"We had a big win and its about winning."
...i do have to give Lundqvist credit for not turning this situation into a circus. He could have easily been a complete diva about being passed over for starts this season, but continues to be 100% professional. I guess counting all that money from his new contract makes it easier for him to do that.
Marc Staal skated for the third straight day including taking some shots on Lundqvist.
...i'm still not 100% convinced Staal is completely comfortable with his sight issues. He's had some major struggles this season offensively and defensively as evidenced by his just three points (2g, 1a) combined with a -7.
...should be interesting to see what happens to the defensive corps once Staal is healthy. It should have a lot to do with whether Del Zotto is traded or not.
anyone wish the rangers would have gone after bobby ryan when he was available…i love the way he plays
If we're going to use Staal's offensive stats as evidence of him still having sight issues, then everyone on this team outside of Zuccarello, Kreider, and McDonagh should go to the eye doctor.
Just noticed but Kreider with 11:30 of play time, and Nash with 14:00... Pretty weird.... But with guys like Pouliot and Zucc playing well they deserve the extra ice time.
did anyone watch kevin weekes' interview of talbot last night? he told Cam he should be called Calm and asked how he felt about being called up from THE WHALE!?!?!?! WTH Weekes! You were a Ranger, you know that their AHL team is the wolfpack!
Talbot should start until he loses *knock on wood*. The team needs a shake up and the king needs a little wake up as well
Mike Babcock was talking about this kind of "conundrum" in the first episode of 24/7. Jimmy Howard (and the Wings) have had a less than ideal start to the year (Similar to the Rangers and Hank), and they've been starting Gustavvson over Howard in quite a few games (prior to placing Howard on IR). And he said all the things we've been assuming an organzation and a player would say: Good goalies want to play every game, but when you're a team that score less and needs to hold opponents to less goals its harder to live through the struggles. It's about wins and you have to go with the guy who's getting them for you, and believe that in the long run it will all balance out and your go-to guy will go back to being your go-to guy. But you've gotta get wins in the meantime.
AV's decision to start Hank all those games in a row we're done with the right intentions, but it could haunt us down the stretch.
I've always appreciated what Hank has done for this team. On the other hand, he's been treated extremely well financially and I have every confidence that his extension will prove to be a burden to the Rangers. Beyond all of this, the Rangers need to win games and I personally don't give a rat's ass who is in goal, as long as he is stopping pucks and moving this team in a positive direction.
@TheNYRBlog but but 8.5 !!!! worst Sather contract EVAH!!!! My thought is Lundy whined too much in room . looks like he lost team
@TheNYRBlog Del Zotta has to be traded, its not a question anymore.
@TheNYRBlog but also Hank said his neck is still sore
They mentioned it in the broadcast last night just before Kreider scored that he had only played 8 minutes. He was then flying on the shift and they noted he had a ton of energy and then he scored. Sounds like he got the message of depleted minutes. Nash, I'm not so sure, he seems very timid.
To be fair, last year he did play on THE WHALE. And he made the team out of training camp so he didn't play for the Wolfpack this season
I think that was hanks fair shake. he got his contract and was given an opportunity to shake the monkey off his back, unfortunately, that wasnt done and now it will probably be a split job between cam and hank
Redden, Gomez, Drury, Holik, now those were truly dreadful deals. Let's settle down a bit it's half a season, Has he been the "King" ? No, but this team hasn't been playing well in front of him. I'm happy Talbot is playing well, but that team is going to go as Hank goes, unless he's hurt, hes going to get the lions share of starts.
@eYank45 Sounds like a convenient excuse.
Could also be some good strategery by AV, with the back to backs. As long as they were protecting the lead, giving extra minutes to 3rd and 4th liners, as well as 3rd pair D isn't a luxury he's really had this season.
Although there was that weird interaction after the icing in the first where Nash told the ref he was injured and wouldn't come back on for the faceoff.
Nash is playing scared which means he's not playing at all. He's thinking. With a personal concussion history I can't fault the guy other than to say that at the NHL, and a so called elite player at that it's not acceptable. Still his mere presence demands attention from the other team so he still might be helping us in intangible ways. I hope he gets his game and courage back soon. I love him when he's in beast mode.
but he started this season on the wolfpack, and midway through the season last year, didnt they even change the name back to the wolfpack then? they were the whale for what 3/4s of a season? its a joke that no one can call them the wolfpack, even on blueshirts united, there have been flops where they still refer to it as the whale.
@TheNYRBlog You think? He looked pretty shaken up the other night
as should blueshirts united.
