Maybe those Micheal Del Zotto to Ottawa rumors that seemed to die last week are back on, as Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that two scouts from the Senators were in attendance last night.
Brooks adds that the Blackhawks also had a pair of front office personnel in attendance, while Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, who scouted the Rangers’ game in Montreal Nov. 16, also watched from the press box.
...looks like that Del Zotto goal against Vancouver has rekindled some interest, unfortunately, his -3 last night likely quelled any sparks rather quickly. Despite Rangers fans disdain for Del Zotto, I do think he has some value on the trade market and Sather is just waiting on the right deal to come along.
...and I do want to mention, despite my constant criticism of Del Zotto, my perfect scenario for the embattled defenseman is for him to figure it out with the Rangers and be a productive player for the Blueshirts for the next decade.
...as for Blackhawks and Bruins scouts being in attendance, I'll take Lucic for Pyatt and Toews for Pouliot. Get er done Slats!!!!
Kev - I agree that the best situation is that MDZ does a 180, but...then again maybe Nash and Kreider will start playing hard every night, Hags will learn how to do more than just skate fast and Cally and Zucc will have growth spurts.
I've said it before, it is only bc of the glaring absence of a puck moving, slick skating defenseman that MDZ becomes this sort of mirage that we all cling to in hope. Well, although there is a risk that he does develop somewhere else I still say trade him if you can. His mistakes don't look like those of a hidden good player "on the verge" of figuring it out. They look like mistakes by someone who doesn't have a natural feel for the game. One could argue that this quality is actually the most important to have for the slick, offensive defenseman that we all wanted MDZ to be.
Here's the thing about MDZ - when he plays well, the team wins. He's a catalyst, and adds a dimension of offense from the blueline (especially on the rush) that no one else really brings.
First half of his rookie year, and most of 2011-12, we saw that and the Rangers were winners.
Last season we didn't see much, and this year he's pretty awful. But when he's on, the Rangers are a better team.
Of course, we know how this story ends - gets traded, finds confidence and maturity, blossoms, and comes back to kill NYR in a playoff series. I hope he gets traded to the West.
I think losing MDZ is gonna backfire! He has offensive talent, good skater, just not a great man on man defender. Did great under the zone. Maybe there is another role he can play. I don't know. I like the guy. He isn't producing but neither is 113 year old Richards and he is still on the team.
other than McD and possibly Stralman, all of our D have struggled this year. I don't think MDZ has regressed any more than Staal, Danny or Moore have. The only reason why people are high on Stralman right now is because he looks good compared to how terrible everyone else has been.
anyone see AV's comments that the star players need to start playing better... Thats tough when he is benching them. Last night is 100 percent his fault for not playing Hank.
Hank should play the next 8 games... no break
Give it up. No productive week let alone productive decade coming from Del Zotto. He logged a ton of minutes last night because he was being scouted, and he showed his true colors. It probably cost us another 2 points to showcase that scrub, just move him and be done with it already. He truly, truly blows.
It sounds like, given the quality of those 3 teams in attendance that they may be looking at us for rentals with all the contracts ending this year. As for DZ I agree with Kevin and have been posting the same sentiments as there is some good talent there. Problem is that he continues circling the rim and all the mental gaffes lead to more f- ups as he over thinks and unfortunately at this point the only way to resurrect his game may be a change of scenery.
But in all seriousness, I wouldn't mind seeing guys like Andrew Shaw or Nick Leddy on this team. Might be slightly more obtainable.
Oh you are giving up too much! I actually bought some of the netting they have in the arenas behind the goals to put over my flat screen so I can throw things at Pouliot when he does something stupid
I had thought/hoped that MDZ could be the next B. Leetch in the making. Clearly, this will not happen unless a miracle is in the offing.
in other words, i think AV/Ulf's system has been difficult for everyone to adjust to and I'm not willing to trade MDZ for a bag of pucks just yet.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne Hank would have let up 3 and the Rangers still lose. Scoring 2 goals and playing bad defense and uninspired hockey....makes no difference who is in net. BTW...he benched Hank for that game for the same reasons. None of this is AV's fault dude, nor was it Torts....fans are too funny. The team is not that good.
@Betweentheworlds Bet the Bruins would love to have a guy like Callahan for a playoff run.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne If they were signed, I'd say there would be a slight possibility. Given they're both UFAs...not a snowball's chance. I like the thinking though!
@messier Like putting himself in the net instead of the puck? I know he was pushed but still. Leave it to poopsalot to score himself in the net.
@gravey94 Well that's not very exciting.
@Adam J. Bernstein The league would void that trade on account of insanity or severe intoxication on the Hawks GM behalf.
@Rich Buser The only way MDZ could be the next Leetch is if Leetch comes out of retirement, plays 4 seasons and sucks in every single game with no signs of improvement.
