According to The Fourth Period, the Rangers are one of a number of teams who have "kicked the tires" on the availability of the Winnipeg Jets Evander Kane.
The price for Kane is believed to be two NHL-proven top-six forwards and a top prospect or a high draft pick.
Kane, 22, is in the second-year of a six-year, $31.5 million contract. He is earning $4.5 million this season, but will make $6 million in each of the remaining four years of his deal, which does not include a no-trade or no-movement clause. His cap hit is $5.25 million per year.
Kane has just 14 points (7g, 7a) this season after scoring 30 goals in 2011-12 and 17 goals during last year's lockout shortened season.
Kane has missed the last five games with a lower body injury.
...Kane is an amazing talent, but would cost a pretty penny to get. If the reported price tag is correct, expect the Rangers to have to part with Stepan and/or Kreider and maybe JT Miller. The Jets will not be giving this guy up for nothing, so don't think throwing Del Zotto in the mix sweetens the pot, because it doesn't.
...having said that, even with those demands, I would seriously consider a trade for this guy no matter what the offer. He is exactly what this team is missing. Big, physical player who can score, with a contract that is very cap friendly considering his talent level.
...there's very few complete package players out there and Kane is one of them. And the scary part is at the age of 22 this kid isn't even close to entering his prime. And when the team needs a spark or a kick in the ass, he has the ability to do this...
@PaulWiecek Jets second line has more points when Kane is out of lineup than when in! Check my math! Assists are points too!
@PaulWiecek media people must be high. 1/2 think Kane is the second coming and savior for the Jets-others believe we'd get something for him
Give up the deadweight for4th 5th 6th 7th 8th roundpicks a bag of pucks or id even accept a hemeroid pillow for brassards ass for puliot or pyatt
Even though Del Zotto's play often makes me cringe, I'll always remember two incidents fondly: 1) him dropping Chris Neil "like a sack of potatoes" in the 2012 playoffs and 2) him throwin' a bow to the chops of James Neal, who was about to board him.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2QWQVm9J5DM
There are some major rumors about Kane and his personality/attitude and that's why he's on the block. Why else would he be on the trade block? I hope the NYR tread carefully on this one.
As stands, this team is on its way to a major rebuild. Why not go and get him if your going to start out again wouldnt it be nice to start with Mcd, Nash, Hank and Kane.
Isn't Brad richards a proven top 6 isn't he? Lol Cally and Richards for kane. Sign the papers! Seriously outside of nash krieder and hank (maybe) who would you really care to see leave this squad?
I'd deal Stepan and Miller with DZ and a 1st in a heartbeat. Stepan's a good player but he's a #2C which they can replace as time goes on. Kreider is a no-go.
Staal or Girardi gotta go anyway... One of them plus Step or Hags and JT... i'd do that in a second for Kane
I think Kreider is untouchable. He will be a serious power forward for many years to come. I would definitely part with Stepan and Hags and even Cally for Kane. WOuld like to keep JT also but would move him. Maybe the Jets have not been looking and we could trade them Poopalot, Boyle and Pyatt
Nobody is trading Kreider, who has so much potential and has been our best looking forward all season.
Nobody is trading Stepan, our best center and he's still getting better.
Kane has been on the way out for a while though. Since they got to Winnipeg he has been scrutinized and criticized for everything, so this news isn't surprising. I've been saying trade for him for a while now. Since everyone else is chiming in.. I'd say Miller Hagelin and a prospect (not duclair not mcilrath not mccolgan). Maybe swap hagelin with brassard? I wouldn't like that, but if it gets the deal done. This is all assuming they do not want Richards.
Krieder,Callahan and jt should get it done
Krieder is Kane lite
Callahan isn't worth what we will have to pay him
Jt will not amount to a third or fourth liner
Everyone on that roster should be up in this trade Ritchie Nash and hank they can't afford I'd give Krieder ( hope he can become Kane) Well you'll have him Stepan and miller for him Now all that talent in ahl can come up and get experienced Then fill in the blanks next year and rid yourself of Ritchie and the other dead wood everyone hates
I'm cool with Kane if we could get him for something like DelZotto/JT/Hagelin. Or Staal/JT.
My untouchables right now are McD, Kreids, & Hank.
I would also like the NYR to pursue Joe Thornton & Brooks Orpik if they can be had for the right price.
Kane absolutely dominated us in the games against last year. He is that dominant player that we lack right now and hope Kreider will become. If Winni is really shopping him I hope we aggresively pursue that. If we can do a one or 2 player swap it's worth it, and we probably would have to give up a talent like Stephan but you got to give to get. Given the supposed potential of DZ a Step+DZ trade might be workable, or just Step and picks/minor leaguer. I would not like to see them ship Kreids - he's the best hope we have right now as far as younger players goes.
Why are the Jets looking to move Kane? Or is this just about people asking and them saying nothing is impossible if you are stupid enough?
@StandnHereMDZ is softer than pudding. I remember Neil coming up to him later that game and you could see the scat all over DZ's hockey pants. Biggest coward on the ice game in game out, cannot stand him. That's not even getting into how terrible of a player he is
Staal and his concussion situation makes him untradeable. Doubtful he would pass a trade mandatory physical/concussion test. I would have pursued the rumored Staal and a pick for Skinner trade with Carolina (which is where i think he'll end up eventually) from this past summer.
Slats somehow managed to deal Gomez for MacD but i don't think he can pull that off again. If he did, maybe Dolan is a genius!
No one is untouchable for the right trade
Hank and Ritchie are because if their contracts but Krieder would go in a second in this trade
Remember even Gretzky and messier were traded once
@Bring back Langdon Not gonna happen . 2 of Slats own first round picks and the Captain.(also one his picks, 2nd round) I don't E.Kane is worth i
...Would it though? Richie seems to have lost the luck that was in his stick earlier in the season and Cally just hasn't been 100% all year.
@shoot_the_goalie I love Orpik. Good D-Man and a great guy in general. Too bad he's never going to leave Pit, and for good reason.
That said, I was livid after I heard what happened to him. Hope he can come back alright.
Don't think the Sharks will move Thorton, they are a top team in the west & he's their leading scorer, the face of the Team, & has NMC. Orpick(I'm a big fan of him) is on IR and the Pens are unlikely to move him if/when he gets healthy if they plan a Cup run. He has a NMC too. Both guys are UFA's come July, that's the best chance of either one of them on Broadway.
@BrendyJohnsonBecause someone spiked Slats' drink with LSD?
problem though is Richey gets bought out, and we lose a quality young center like Step? Then what? Boyler becomes 2nd line center?
Possible issues with management...?
@greggray24He's been known to have attitude problems. There may be other reasons I don't know about.
@greggray24 He scored 33 points in 48 games played last year....not bad and he has some punch value
@tygalpin@shoot_the_goalie Well, Shawn Thornton just got 15 games and forfeiting around $85k in salary (that's a decent hit for a guy making $1.1m a year) Personally I think he should have gotten 20 games, but I guess he's a first time offender and that was taken into account. Baffles me why it took the NHL a week to make the ruling.
And I know a lot of BOS fans would disagree, but that Orpik hit was clean. Erikkson didn't have control of the puck, but the puck was at his feet. It's also ridiculous with all the people saying if Orpik would have dropped the gloves, it would have been over. Didn't work like that for Steve Moore.
And he won a Cup in doing so. Taking less money to stay with the team that drafted you & a better too chance to win a Cup, sounds like the kind of player people want in their organization. Safe bet he stays in the Burgh or, Boston. Yikes.
@Scott from SEC 224@shoot_the_goalieUnfortunately, don't think either of those guys would take a 2 year deal anywhere unless they were offered like 10m per. I see Thornton realistically at 4 years min. Orpik at 6 years min on the open market. Also, I think Thornton will still be looking at around 7-7.5m a year, and Orpik probably 5-5.5m a year. At those prices, I would pass on Thornton, and would have to think hard about Orpik.
Gothcha. Thorton & Nash are pretty tight & Orpick is the kind of D man this team sorely needs. Thorton will be 35 years Old & Orpick 33, so the deal would need to be short(2 Years) Dollars will need to be 7-8 million for Thorton & 4-4.5 for Orpick. Based on what they are currently making, market, cap going up etc... and who's on this roster come next Summer.
