Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that the Rangers have been demanding defenseman Marc Methot from the Ottawa Senators in return for Michael Del Zotto.
Garrioch adds that it's doubtful the Senators would make that trade and they'd more likely offer Patrick Wiercioch, who's been a healthy scratch the last four games.
According to Garrioch, the Maple Leafs, Sharks and Avalanche are also interested in Del Zotto, whose stock has apparently plummeted of late...
"Del Zotto's value has gone down," said a league executive Friday. "He hasn't shown any consistency and he's not worth nearly as much as he may have been earlier in the season."
Methot has 11 points in 38 games this season. The 28-year old also has 97 hits and 53 blocked shots.
The 23-year old Wiercioch has 13 points in 27 games this season.
...the most shocking part of this report is that an NHL executive thinks Del Zotto has had any value at all this season.
...of course the Rangers are interested in Methot, he's a former Columbus Blue Jacket.
...Methot obviously brings some desperately needed sandpaper to the Rangers blueline, but Wiercioch seems to have a higher ceiling. I think either one would be an upgrade over Del Zotto, who I'm still not convinced can figure out his issues in a Rangers uniform.
Pat Leonard at the Daily News has more on the Rangers Del Zotto dilemma here.
Meanwhile, Glenn Healy at CBC Sports feels that with the Bruins losing defenseman Dennis Seidenberg they'll be calling the Rangers about the availability of Dan Girardi.
Elliotte Friedman adds that Anaheim could also be interested in Girardi's services.
...with the injuries and uncertainty surrounding the Rangers defense, I very much doubt Girardi is going anywhere. Although, I'm sure Sather is more than willing to listen to offers.
...i know that he's had a underwhelming season (9g 10a in 38 games), but the Bruins seem frustrated with Marchand's lack of production this year. I wonder if there's any chance he'd be available despite being in the first of his four-year, $4.5M deal with the Bruins.
...i think a Marchand acquisition could have a similarly positive effect the Avery trade had on the Rangers back in 2007. Even with the recent improvement in play, the Rangers could still use a shakeup on the ice and in the locker room. He'd bring a level of arrogance and cockiness this organization in is desperate need of.
Finally, Larry Brooks at the New York Post wonders if Ryan Callahan might become available as a rental if the Rangers fall out of the playoff race by the trade deadline.
...with the way the NHL is these days, it is very rare (unless you're the Islanders) to be completely out of the playoff race by the trade deadline, so I doubt this is happening unless the Rangers & Callahan remain far apart in their extension negotiations.
Because if you're going to emulate a franchise, you need to emulate the Columbus Blue Jackets with all of their many successes.
I've said it before but I'm shocked that DZ's trade value has declined. Who new? It's frustrating because we all knew his value would decline. WTF? Why no trade before the season? This is going to be unpopular but at this point I think we should keep him and try to move G. He's been uncomfortable all year with this system and we could get much more than we could for DZ. unless McI, Allen and Falk are all ready to go it would be unadvisae to move 2 Dmen. What we do with DZ if we keep him I don't know Maybe start by getting him a shrink, finding a good hypnotist and if that doesn't work there's always electric shock therapy
If these trades are made those guys are going to go tear it up for the other teams while we get stuck with fucking turds. It always happens. Comes back to bite you in the ass.
Del Zaster needs to go. He needed to go before, he needs to go now. He needs to go worse than I do after I eat bad Chinese food.
As for Girardi, I really hate to say this, but if we commit to AV's style en toto, we may have to accept that he won't be a part of our future (which I find very sad), or we will have to convince him he's getting old and that all he is ever going to be is a shut-down defenseman, and a special teams guy and see if he buys it. Chances are he won't and he'll get his millions for a team like the Bruins, Canucks, or a West Coast team that appreciates his style of play and complete lack of regard for his own bodily health.
on a completely unrelated note just got NHL 14 and christ is Hagelin wearing coyote Acme rocket skates?
Marchand is a DOUCHEBAG. I'd rather they sign Pyatt to a 10mil/7year contract with a no move clause than have Marchand anywhere near this team.
Easy. One is a gross underachiever and the other will be looking for way too much money compared to what he is worth. With about 11 UFAs going into next season, this team likely will look very different.
Why would we trade del zotto or girardi with staal out. And staal will probaky be leaving at first oppurtunity to be with his brothers
Though I would hate to trade within the conference, everyone is expendable. I would move Girardi if they could. It's been suggested here and elsewhere that he'll be looking at $5 million plus for his next contract. He's not worth that kind of money. Not even close. Regardless of the Rangers D situation, this team has to take some chances, because they are not going anywhere. Even if they should crawl in the playoffs they will get tossed from the first round. And the overall reality is Sather is going no where so we will be remaking this team once again with that jackass at the helm.
Don't think Marchand would fit. Avery would stick up for others and fight. Marchand annoys then hides. Rangers have no one to ride shotgun. He can play how he plays in Boston because of their roster make-up. Think Callahan has most important 6 weeks of NYR career ahead. Has to convince he is worthy of 4-5 yr 6+ mil commitment. Has been injury prone and best days could be behind. Think Sather should seriously investigate what return would be in trade. Trading Girardi falls under same idea as Callahan less the injuries. Team is going to need a turnover and they have some tradable pieces if they decide that not signing Cally and Girardi is way to go.
Trade MDZ ASAP. They both need to move on and what team in their right mind is going to give anything of great value for him.
We've been talking about it but Dolan loves him so enough already. Dolan has a huge man crush on Sather and its not going to happen any time soon.
Girardi trade and Callahan trade ? Oh yeah baby. That' s actually an awesome idea. Both gonna walk for nothin or handicap the future at some point(Cally is too injury prone and isn't going to get less fragile).Rangers gotta make this deal if they can. Now's the time.Optimal return for both.get a 1st round pick from Boston and Buffalo plus -OMG .We would have a new future.
If Sathers wants to help out Nash, bring in a winger who plays with some sandpaper and grit next to him. Nash wouldn't be so shy to come in off the perimeter if someone has his back. What else can you do to help him at this point? I'm afraid to trade Girardi just yet. I would like to see how Conor Alllen plays first. Also, can DZ in a trade bring back a decent stay at home defenseman?
Girardi and Callahan are leaders and the Rangers are going to win the Cup with them! Trade Nash , Brassard and all the former Jackets Losers and you will see the difference! Dont trade the identity of the club (Rangers players who are developped by the Rangers) , trade the mercenaries!
He is a liability. And from his trade. We can start getting pieces to improve our team....that's reason enough
no shot. krug is a blue chip and DZ is a cow chip. callahan is impressive because he's a smaller guy who plays feisty and kinda scores sometimes. Lucic is the best power forward in the game by far. he scores and concusses
Sorry but IMO the Bruins would have to be idiots to make this trade.
@KreiderisTheChosenOneI would give both of them for Lucic alone.
This is the pros not fantasy hockey. Why would Boston even consider this deal, let alone that both guys the Rangers are trading can walk after the season. Btw I would not make this deal in fantasy either if I was trading the 2Bruins guys
@KreiderisTheChosenOneThat's interesting, but may be givimg up a lot.
In all aspects u look at his jury history. His trade value will definitely diminish now is the time if ur gonna do something. ..... and can always tell him we want u to compete for a cup..... u deserve better than where we are at right now
As for Girardi TRADE him..... Cut got challenged again by the Capitals and swarmed and Girardi just stood their... it's been more than a few times the guy has no back bone. ...and has become a liability on defense...most times now
@jslnyr1102If Sather wants to help out Nash,he should trade him. The guy have proved that he can't handle the pressure that it takes to play in New York.
Girardi a leader? He just stands there as his teammates get their asses kicked.... that'd a leader?
Cally jumps in a dislocated his shoulder defending a teammate At least he tried... and works hard...
@96BelandWhat a dreamer you are!
thats why I said in "less than a second"
@mando24179agreed anyone can be dealt at the right price
Sather did not trade Gretzky. He was the head coach not the GM.
It was Pocklington that made the Gretzky trade. Sather was against it but Pocklington needed money and didn't want to pay Gretz what he was worth. It was 100% on Pocklington as has been well documented in numerous books and documentaries.
My apologies. He was GM as well as head coach.
