Alain Vigneault continues to tinker with his lineup in an effort to create some offensive cohesion as he'll go with this group of 12 forwards tonight against the Islanders...
...i like a lot of what AV is trying to do here. Makes sense to get a playmaker like Zuccarello on Nash's opposite wing in an attempt to jump start the big guy.
...i'm also a fan of seeing the young Miller alongside a veteran like Richards. Hoping that they both rub off on each other.
AV discussed the changes after this morning's practice (via Blueshirts United)...
"J.T. has been playing real well at both ends of the rink (in Hartford) and they've been using him at center, so we thought it might be a good time to give him a look. I'm hoping that (Richards) and J.T. might have a little bit of chemistry there. I'm hoping that the veteran will rub off on the younger player..and it'll be the start of something real positive."
He added this on Nash...
"I think (Nash) is real close. Obviously he wants to produce more than he has, but he's getting some good looks. There's no doubt in my mind that his will is there. It's a matter of just staying with it."
Henrik Lundqvist will make his eighth straight start.
...not sure I agree with this decision. Islanders have been struggling and Talbot has proved to be a very capable backup. Can't overwork Hank in December, because it will ultimately wear him down in March and April. Especially during an Olympic year.
Hank needs a solid game to boost his confidence before he sits. Maybe tonight against a struggling Islanders team will be good for him and then they can start rotating Talbot in. If they play Talbot when Hank is struggling, even if it's to give him rest, it's all gonna go to his head. The man needs a shut out and a solid game from beginning to end to get back into form.
Liking these line combos. Hopefully they click. As far as Hank, I think AV is trying to let him play his way to the the level we all expect. Again I think it is a good call on his part. Again my big concern is the lack of physicality on the back end. Our D can not clear anyone away from the net. Just look at these last dozen games I'll bet that 70 to 80% of goals scored against us were from inside 3 feet of the crease.
The jerseys have officially been revealed for Stadium Series
While I wait here at the cold storage dispatch desk I was thinking...20-10-61,19-21-36,62-16-67,22-28-15...fuck it, why not let Nash play with two maniac kids skating their asses off, and there's good balance throughout...
I was talking to my sister the other day about putting Zucc together with Nash. Zucc can score goals, make great passes, and great skating. The only thing negates is his size. The way to solve it is with bigger size :) Thanks AV for making that line!
Just hoping AV gives the Miller line a fair share of minutes in the first 2 period before he starts thinking about bouncing Richards all over the place. Wondering if there's a stat somewhere on the Rangers Record when Richards plays above/below a certain threshold of minutes. Seems like 20+ is too much and leads to losses.
I like the idea of Zucc with Nash, but I'm still not sure they'll have the space they need to create chances. If they struggle, I wouldn't mind seeing Hags and Zucc swapped, Hags speed can create that space while Step and Nash set up plays.
Really surprised to see Hank start, but I wonder if AV is too afraid of what his future will look like if this homestand ends with a 1-6-2 record and no regulation victories. Also with back-to-backs on Sunday/Monday, AV might be saving Talbot for one of those two games.
I don't see Nash being "close" he is playing with fear, afraid of getting injured again. He enters the zone, spins around, loses the puck, looks at his feet than gingerly skate up ice. I love Nash, don't get me wrong but he is playing scared. He needs to step out of that bubble.
Ok. I like JT at center better than wing. I like Richey better on wing. JT not on the 4th. Hags not on the 4th. Did AV stop chewing gum? Or smoking crack? Some may not agree with the combos but dare I say he seems to be using his head. After the neck injury this would have been a good night to insert Talbot.
@TheNYRBlog Wait a second, Hagelin isn't on the fourth line? What's up with that?
Third line will play together for four shifts tops....Miller will not have more than ten minutes while Richards will once again play north of twenty minutes. If this happens we will lose again.
Said it earlier... With Miller finally in a top 6 position... and getting to play the pivot (his natural position), I think tonight is his coming out game. I will be there and I can't wait to see it. I kinda wish they swapped Kreider and Pouliot though.
@TheNYRBlog I like the changes too. Having Miller up actually gives them (on paper) a 3rd line that might actually be able to score.
@TheNYRBlog Maybe Nash needs to play like a Power Forward and not a perimeter pansie!
@TheNYRBlog yet stepan gets a pass
We will physically get destroyed tonight.....Miller will play about 4-5 mins and be sent down tomorrow morning.... AV does not know how to accurately access talent or prepare for opponent's....
I would flip flop Miller and Dominic Moore. Let Miller have Dorsett on his line....might give the kid a little security when opposing players try and take his head off he will know that Dorsett will have his back.
@JoeNYRDespite his size, he plays bigger than anyone else on the team. I remember everyone was bashing him not too long ago. He is definitely worth a roster spot in my book.....
@mando24179He has no choice now with the roster freeze.
But Miller needs to play with better players or he won't be able to do anything / get enough playing time
I think they can still send players up and down to and from Hartford during the freeze. They however cannot trade during that time. At least that's what I read this morning.
He bad a choice and has one every night. The idiot sent down...MCLARTH. If that's the case he should have bought up Beach...... AV is clueless .... wait till the cheap shots come tonight and everyone will scream tomorrow about it
Carkner. Martin and couple others. Start smashing people with questionable hits. There is no one to answer
Ask Boyle if he wants to fight Carkner again. Smh
