The Rangers have announced that JT Miller will be inserted into the lineup against the Devils tonight with Beniot Pouliot being the healthy scratch. Taylor Pyatt will remain in the lineup as Derek Dorsett continues to be bothered by his injured wrist.
After this morning's practice, Miller discussed how he wants to improve his game...
"I am real excited to be back and I want to concentrate on playing well at both ends of the ice, use my body more, too"
Here's Alain Vigneault on Miller...
"It was time to give him another look considering how some of our guys are playing & with the injury to Dorsett"
Vigneault added that Pouliot has been given a fair opportunity, but has not lived up to expectations. He also says his top lines could see more minutes during the homestand.
Miller skated on a line with Derreick Brassard and Carl Hagelin during the morning skate.
...man, it's too bad that Dorsett is hurt, because I'd be really loving the lineup tonight.
...big opportunity for Miller on a line with some skill players. No excuses if he can't generate offense in the next few games with those linemates.
...really like hearing him emphasize that he wants to play a more physical game. Could help open up ice for Brass and Hags.
Another lineup change will be the re-insertion of Justin Falk on defense for Michael Del Zotto.
Vigneault has recently said the Rangers opponent would likely dictate his decision on whether to play Falk or Del Zotto (via New York Post)...
“Both Michael and Falker, it depends more on the [opponent]. If you think you need a little more bite [it’s Falk] or you think you need a little more puck movement [it’s Del Zotto].”
...if that's Vigneault's mindset, then he absolutely made the correct decision tonight. Rangers/Devils games are always a tough, physical affair. Also consider Del Zotto's past abysmal play against the Devils (see 2012 Eastern Conference Finals).
The Rangers are playing a team which just played last night...and lost. The Devils will be ready, but also could easily go down if you outwork them and push their fatigue levels.
THIS is the sort of game where the Rangers have typically not put their boot on the throat of the opposing team. Here is another chance. In over 35 years watching them there may have been only TWO or THREE years where they had a team with the competitive fire to routinely do this. Pathetic.
Here is another chance. Let's hope they rise to the occasion.
i like the looks of miller, just hope he doesn't try to do too much. if he can win the crowd over, he could stay a while
While I'm not happy with our record at the moment, I am impressed with how AV has been handling the lineup. He seems to address issues with starters fairly and quickly.
Well, it looks like the line up is getting closer to being ironed out. No idea how Pouliot has survived this long. No idea why sather signed him to begin with. MDZ has shown himself incapable of changing as well.
I'm looking forward to the game and very happy that miller is back up.
so close to pyatt being gone, i must say im pleasantly surprised with how Dorsett has stepped it up since the start of the season taking all those stupid penalties
@Say my Name Totally agree with you said and we have to score early on these guys.
@KreiderisTheChosenOne wish we had signed Jagr instead of Pouilot
Pylon and Prurient are trade bait. Question is, what do we want in return? I'd say one tough guy, or bring up Connor Allen or McIllrath, and get a 25 goal scorer. Also debating whether to send Cally back to surgery, I'm convinced he's effed up .. all the more reason we need to replace his scoring.
