The New York Rangers are reporting that Dylan McIlrath will make his NHL debut tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets, taking the place of Justin Falk in the lineup.
Here's McIlrath on making his NHL debut (via Bergen Record)...
“Obviously I didn’t have the training camp I wanted,” added McIlrath, who will wear jersey No. 42. “I wanted to show that I could maybe step in right away. They sent me down and I came in with a positive attitude and just felt comfortable right away and started playing my game and it showed and I’m just happy to be here now. I just briefly talked with Ulfie (assistant coach Ulf Samuelsson) and went over some tactical things but they want me to play my game, that’s how I got here. Maybe in camp I was doing something I wasn’t but I just have to do what brought me here. Do that.
“There’s no surprise that’s the type of player I am and maybe that’s why they brought me up,” McIlrath continued, when asked if he expected to be tested early and often. “I add a little bit of that element. I’m not going to do anything out of the ordinary that’s in my game and it comes with grit and sandpaper so I’m hopefully going to do anything I can to help the team win. If it happens, it happens. Obviously the hockey community is a small world so everybody has got their scouting reports. Yeah it happened when I came to the AHL right away, I was tested early so we’ll see what happens.”
...i just went from being lukewarm about attending tonight's game to through the roof excited. Really looking forward to McIlrath providing some much needed toughness that has been absent from the Rangers lineup all season. I'm expecting to see McIlrath get about 12 minutes of ice time and hopefully at least one smackdown. My main concern tonight is that McIlrath comes out timid and doesn't infuse himself physically into the game.
...as far as the decision to make Falk the healthy scratch over Del Zotto, AV made the correct decision here. A pairing of Falk/McIlrath would have been a recipe for disaster. Wonder if we'll finally get to see the Del Zotto/McIlrath duo we all hoped would resemble Leetch-Buekeboom one day.
Meanwhile, Derrick Brassard, who missed yesterday's practice with a sore posterior, will miss tonight's game and is considered day-to-day.
With Ryan Callahan also out (knee), both Taylor Pyatt and Beniot Pouliot will return to the lineup.
...and just when I was feeling good about the McIlrath recall, this happens.
...i hate to see Miller continued to be yo-yo'd between Hartford and New York, but isn't recalling him and maybe even Kristo a better option than these two knuckleheads?
Henrik Lundqvist will get his fifth straight start tonight.
I'd like to see The Undertaker catch Artie doing what he does best, skating with his head down....
But I got nothin but love for Dubi and Gaborik. Anyone know if Gabi is playing??
Please don't ever mention Leetch and DelScrubo in the same breath ever again. You should be ashamed of yourself. Bad Kevin! I would boycott your blog but I can't stop reading it!!!!
a sore ass?? i mean seriously? in the middle of this stretch? dying for a win? staal and cally out? vs. your old team? what a fn bitch , kill yourself if u have a brassard jersey....wont be surprised if pouillot struggles tonight from a sore groin/pelvic area
funny tthat brassard misses tonight. what a bitch ass, that trade was bad, should have gotten draft pics or that kid atkinson they have....
Day to day with a sore ass. The jokes write themselves.
Im excited for McIllrath's debut. I agree with kevin. I just want him to come out strong and not timid. Im glad to hear that he knows his role and isnt trying to change his game (cough cough asham cough cough).
Pyatt and poopsalot (+1 to the creater of that monicker) better play like their loved ones are being held hostage and skate like theres a bear chasing them.
I hope that mcillrath gets a couple of games before he has to hop into the Miller-Mobile headed north.
Imagine if Torts was coach and Brass said he couldn't play because his butt was sore? He would probably drown him in the hot tub.
This Pyatt is like a weed he keeps coming back to f**k up the garden... Come to think of it the Rangers need a GM who is a Weedkiller to make the garden healthy.
Here's one word in light of Calgary's firing of GM Jay Feaster and their ownership vs. ours: ACCOUNTABILITY.
I don't think McI will be timid - maybe just the opposite and he'll ring someone's bell on the 1st shift. I wonder what kind of impact he can make playing 12 minutes and mostly against the other team's 3rd and 4th lines. Well, it's a start
Any chance we can trade Sather for Brian Burke? This is his quote after firing Jay Feaster.
Burke didn't mention any possible candidates at the press conference but one name that is already popping up is former Flames star and ex-Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk. Either way Burke let everybody know what he wants out of his team, something we saw him do in Toronto.
"We're not hostile enough for me," Burke said. I don't like flag football, I like teams that bang. I don't like the way we play. We want black and blue hockey, that's what we do in Alberta. That's the first thing." Then he threw out the word truculence like old times. It was classic Burke.I COULD NOT AGREE MORE!!!!
Just a thought this should be a highlight video for Lundqvist.
HAVE WE PLAYED 5 backups in a row... God dammit here comes another loss before the game even starts. At least we will get to see the undertaker destroy dubinsky
"A pairing of Falk/McIlrath would have been a recipe for disaster." took the words right out of my mouth
Fitting, Brassard's been a pain in the ass all year ;-)
Sooooo looking forward to McIlrath. I don't think he'll be timid, but I think the sooner someone does something that warrants a little rough stuff the better, just to get him over the butterflies. How funny would it be if he drops with Dubi!!!
Can't believe I have to miss the game vs. the other Rangers tonight. I met get back in time to catch the end of the 3rd and watch the aftermath and maybe a replay.
Have a great one, Kevin and gang!
We need to dump ALL the dead weight. Give the kids from the ahl some nhl time. Yeah they might take time to adapt but I'm sure they would bring more heart and willingness to play 60 each night than the poor excuses we have been getting throughout this season. AV does not deserve all the finger pointed except with pyatt. They players need to stand up. Work their ass off or go somewhere else.
Interested to see how lines shake out without Brassard and Cally. Go back to top line of Nash-Stepan-Kreider so we have at least one line that can score?
@Wallace1 I think Wolski is still using it!
@DaveFL Good one! You made me laugh on that one.
@LanceGold1 Jay Feaster won the Stanley cup with Tampa. How many cups did Brian Burke won? I'd take Feaster over Sather or Burke in a second. Calgary will be sorry.
@Kevin DeLury That's not a good omen.... Maybe McIlrath can knock him out, and they'll have to put Gaborik in net.
@Kevin DeLury great hope Mcilrath can score as well as fight
@AG_Blue My Projection AG,you will not miss anything.. Consider yourself lucky.
@scrangersfan @LanceGold1 Burke won a cup with anaheim.....and feaster was there with the lightning...no question, but he did not assemble that roster....rick dudley did. He is the guy who did the drafting of all of their star players and plucked Martin St. Louis off of waivers....
I don't think Feaster is all that great at talent evaluation as his first few drafts with Calgary have shown, and his bungling of the Iginla trade did too.
@mando24179 Exactly, and everywhere he leaves is better than when he arrived. Vancouver, Anaheim, Toronto
@mando24179 I still love Dubi. Wish he was still here. No fear.
They are empty useless suits......I'd bring up bickel and miller.....have the beer guy on reserve be I'd play those 2 aholes
Hell there's bicks and Powe - using 10 forwards as someone else suggested would be better - these two don't even make good bench warmers!
@LanceGold1 @mando24179 I still think this was the biggest divide between Sather and Torts. Torts wanted to go back to that black and blue style and Slats wanted to get progressively more skilled. Bottom line, there are a handful of truly elite players in this league, but there are many players who have that hostile mentality. Many players who will go to the edge and over it for their team. That's the team we should have been building. They should have gotten even meaner after 2012. They should have been the bruins 2.0
