The New York Rangers (16-18-2) lost to the New York Islanders (10-19-7) by the score of 5-3, last night. For a box score, go to Yahoo! Sports.
...easily one of the most bizarre games I've seen. The first period alone was an emotional swing of epic proportions. But the bottom line is the Rangers cannot lose to an Islanders team who had one regulation win in their last 18 games coming in. Please let this be rock bottom because I don't think I can take anymore.
...while I almost lost my mind with the penalty shot call on McDonagh, what really got me upset was AV's lack of response. He just sat there with a dumb look on his face trying to get the refs attention. After Clutterbuck scored (c'mon Hank you're better than that), AV should have lost his mind. Sticks should have been thrown on the ice. Water bottles hurtled towards center ice. Brad Richards helmet punted into the crowd. The Rangers have been void of any emotion this season and AV missed a perfect opportunity to finally show his players and the Rangers fans he actually does have some passion.
...having said that, I was impressed with the Rangers ability to storm back from a two goal deficit for the second straight game. I know they've ultimately lost both of them, but at least there's some kind of fight in this team. Hey, I'm looking for anything.
...sure, it was great to see Stepan get on the scoreboard as well as Poopsalot continue his resurgence, but until Nash and Lundqvist get their heads out of their asses the Rangers are going nowhere.
...assuming this is all JT Miller's fault, so expect him to be send back to Hartford today.
...on the surface, two power play goals looks pretty good. Too bad they also gave up two short-handed and came up empty on three other attempts.
...good to see Lundqvist take another snow shower with no response. Nope, the Rangers don't need McIlrath. I mean, no fights in a Rangers/Islanders game? Fishsticks have numerous willing combatants, the Rangers? Zero.
...i have to wonder if AV's new system is Girardi's cryptonite, because he has officially lost all his powers. ZERO blocked shots last night to go along with two brutal turnovers. His regression this season is mind blowing.
...Rangers playing a bad team, while Hank is banged up after being run into last game. Why exactly didn't Talbot get the start?
...doesn't get uglier than 1-4-2 in the first seven games of a nine game homestand. Maybe the Rangers should petition the NHL to change the final two games to road contests.
...Dorsett is easily the only player with any b@lls on this team and he would have been considered soft on the 2011-12 Rangers.
...i think it might be officially time to lower our expectations of this Rangers team. Nash is no longer elite, so maybe we should stop expecting elite plays. Lundqvist is now on the downside of his career, so maybe we should stop expecting him to steal games. Girardi and Callahan's bodies have taken beatings the last five years, so maybe we should stop expecting them to play a tough, physical brand of hockey. I'm pretty much going into games for the remainder of the season with the mindset of expecting to lose so I'm not continuously disappointed by this team.
loss game is Sunday against the Wild.
Post game talk:
I may not watch anymore games until next October. I find this year's team too dull to watch. The ONLY Ranger I find entertaining to watch is Dorsett, and I would bet my salary Sather will most likely trade him by next season. Fuck Sather...what a sack of shit.
I don't know what everyone is upset about, this is a organization that has won 2 cups in 75 years and it's not like they have some standard to live up to.
Truth is I am surprised when they get a Mcdonagh or Moore in a trade, or sigh a Zucarella, or a draft pick they keep that works out...well I guess I have to leave that blank, I only remember back to Leetch, maybe Lundqwist but he was 6thor 7th rounder and who knows now, maybe Staal and Callahan.
About 100% of the decisions this organization makes are questionable and until ownership stands up and takes responsibility for garbage drafts, farm teams, signings ,coaching, and the rest of shit that has been going on for years and decides to set some standards that would befit a winning organization instead of just collecting money from the fans which of course will be the ones that continue to suffer I fear things will just stay the same.
Eric Boulton was drafted by the Rangers also imagine that
@TheNYRBlog the Nash trade ruined the org!!!!
So glad torts got the last laugh here terrible the way he was run out of town
You built a team around your coach and then fire him now that's a strategy
didn't watch the game last night, i went drinking with my friends. I guess i chosen the right thing. Man, i get home and see that we lost to Islanders who didn't get a regulation win in 1 and a half month. That was depressing thing to see. I think this season we are not going anywhere, so Sather has 2 options (3rd would be to leave but we know that is never going to happen) : 1st, fire Vigneault and maybe jump start the team with new coach or 2nd: stick with AV and in the offseason try to sign players that can play his system.
Fire sather, for AV, Buy out Richards, Trade Nash And if hank keeps this up trade him while u still can...blow the whole team up...can't bring stars here they crumble. We need to develop players not buy them. Look at the blues. Can we bring JD back to build a great young team?
As long as Dolan is making money with all of the new suites, keeping people entertained and fed and distracted from actually watching the game he probably will get away with business as usual on the ice. More bars and concessions, same waiting on long lines, more reasons to socialize and less reason to watch the actual game. It's not about the team anymore. Let's all just open our wallets and enjoy the transformation and who cares about the game? As long as saps like me keep paying for season tickets hoping things will change Dolan and Sather will be smiling.
Next recap, just write "Sather needs to go". We can blame everyone we want but Slats is the reason why this team has been a disappointment.
Need to go with talbot. simple as that. Idc how good hank can be, hes not good this season. go with talbot cause we win with him. Hes giving us a better chance to win than hank. we need a personnel change. its unacceptable that we finally score on the power play and there a more even contribution and we are worse off than when we NEVER scored on the power play and we had only a few guys that could score. Can you imagine how bad we would be if the power play DIDNT score like one???
I think the same thing about Rick Nash every time I see a photo of him: How the f**k does this guy have an A on his sweater?? If Softy McPushedAround is one of the Top 3 "Leaders" left in the room (or AV at least thinks he is), then we've either got a leadership problem or a coaching problem (or both). You don't give letter based on salary, or points, or All Star Games. You give it based on heart and determination. You think it's a coincidence that he Captained the Blue Jackets to nothing for 7 years, and the second he's gone and guys like Dubinsky get letters the team starts to improve? Unreal...
I've got tickets to the game in Tampa on 12/29. I've got a feeling I'll either be buying a Lightning Jersey on the way out, or putting "Watch Less Hockey" on my list of 2014 Resolutions. This team really isn't worth our time anymore...
God how I hate this team. The coach is awful. He has no adaptability whatsoever. This team cannot succeed playing run and gun yet he persists in playing it.
Sam and Joe M. make it even harder to
watch with their incessant shilling for the MSG brand. When a Ranger
turns it over or makes a horrible play, they rarely mention it, but if a
Ranger makes a routine hockey play, Sam is always there to say, "Good
play by Boyle or Good play by Girardi etc. Last night was a new low.
They didn't even identify the culprits in those awful turnovers by Del
Zaster and Moore. They're so intent on protecting the MSG brand they
fail to call the game. They constantly cheat the fans.
Last night when they started telling us what a great job Gernander is doing in Hartford, do they really believe that none of us are aware of the awful record the Whale/Wolfpack has had during his tenure. Are they aware that he hasn't sent one player to the Rangers who has made even the slightest impact with the possible exception of Kreider.
A crappy team with crappy management deserves crappy announcers. The fans deserve better.
AV didn't ask for an explanation of the penalty shot?? He doesn't have an opinion about it??.......sounds kind of like my mother, although even she'll scream "Oh no!"
Losing is a disease ...
To be fair, i think we need to let AV install his system before we tell him to leave. He's a good coach. And even though we might not agree with every move he makes...maybe, just maybe he knows what's best for the team.
Get rid of sather and AV and start rebuilding the team for next year by
Bringing back Messier as president/gm, and trading for the future looking
At young players with skill and balls and not this team of losers.
Trade Del Zotto, Richards, Nash, Pouilot, Boyle, Pyatt, Callahan, Dominic Moore, and build your team around Lundqvist, McDounagh, John Moore,
MclRath, Connor Allen, Brassard, Hagelin, Zuccarello, Kreider, Stepan,
Miller, Kristo and whatever you get back in trades.
This team needs players that have skill and also grit which it does not have.
I hate to trade Cally but he has had too many injuries to sign him long term.
Nash is become a bust and is here for only the money.
Mr. Dolan wake up out of your coma and start to listen to your loyal fans.
Go Rangers Go
You guys should check out what the Nucks victory song in locker room was, after their win against Chicago (coming back from 2-0 hole): http://ow.ly/29cHGb . I promise this is relevant. lol
@TheNYRBlog The Rangers need to stop trying to be a playoff ready team every year and just rebuild
Say goodbye to Casper Krieder and hello to evander Kane
Make it happen sather
Ek 1&1 last night against a hot team
Casper another vanishing act against an ice cold team
This team sucks and so does Vigneault. I live in Vancouver and I know from watching him here that he is an overrated coach.
I was hoping Sather was going to sign instead Lindy Ruff who was the best
Man for the job.
Sather has to go along with AV and the best thing for the team is it continues
To lose game after game and start rebuilding this overrated soft team we have.
Mr. Dolan wake up you asshole and start listening to our fans.
Bring Messier back as pres/gm! trade now the following players and collect
As many good young players and draft picks.
Trade Del Zotto, Girardi, Nash, Callahan, Richards, Pouilot, Boyle, Pyatt,
I hate to trade Cally or Girardi, but with there ages and injury problems with
Cally it is a high risk to keep him long term.
Depending what they get back bring from the minors Mclrath, Connor Allen,
Kristo, Hrvik, Lindbergh.
let's go Rangers forever
Can't clear house - who'll be left to play? who'll take our castoffs and for what? No help coming from Hartford - kids are not ready and did you ever look at the standings - Hartford team are the Rangers of the AHL!
Just accept this as a "lost year" (one of the many under Sather) and see what damage the GM does at the trade dead line.
try and keep your mind busy while suffering through Ranger broadcasts.... free online poker is fun! If you happen to look up and catch some of the Rangers putrid on ice performance just chant serenity now! Or make a fun drinking game - every time a Ranger gives the puck away - take a drink! Every time MDZ shoots wide - take a drink! Every time the rangers lose a face off - take a drink! Take two when it's an offensive zone PP face off! Every time the camera catches AV's confused blank stare - take a drink! Every time a Ranger makes a clean hard hit on someone....wait....well then you'll sober up!
see....good times...good times...
@jvrthat's a lot.
@weregnaloseI think he only wears a sweat after the game.
I was there last night... from the first goal on I was periodically chanting Fire Sather
In his defense I can day he dropped his gloves to defend soft as shit Stepan..... When had Staal, Girardi or any one else wearing a "A" dropped their gloves. For a team mate. and this was right after a concussion
they are going to win a cup in the next 3 years. Guarantee it
so we can over pay/trade for Ek and get another guy who won't fix the team and probably have his game go south too? no thanks.
I guarantee that they will not. They put their future in the hands of a set of guys who really don't have the burning desire to win. That means that Tortorella's shelf life will be even shorter here. They have 1 real player -- Kesler -- and the rest ride the crest of success and disappear when success seems hard to come by. No way they win a cup. No way.
How do you get over pay
Krieder and a mediocre prospect for Kane a unhappy tough as nails proven nhler
For someone who doesn't know where he is half the time and a mid level prospect
Wake the fuck up already Krieder is not going to be a superstar
Does not have the smarts or shot
Has speed and size and doesn't use eiither correctly
As a ranger fan I drool at that trade as a winapeg fan I say that's the best we will get for our best player that every gm knows is unhappy and both he and coach want him gone!
Plenty of cap space next year and it's not a dream most ranger fans think its in winapegs favor
Which I find funny
But the rangers have the ability to give them something with youth and potential for a disgruntal player
So throw in a third rounder too
Not a dream at all
Just a start to mold a team into what and who it should be
If we don't resign cally and hopefully girardi and buy out Richards
And drop the other dead weight fa's
We have a lot of cap room to sign proper players and promote the youngsters from the wolf pack
Not a dream a reality
I make no claims on Kreider's future - although it would be nice to give him a legit chance.
Biggest point you are missing is that just because you say trade Kreider and a prospect doesn't mean another teams GM is gonna take a crap deal like that. In reality they will want more than that. Kane also will want more money - hurt cap space. Not smart. Come back from fantasy land.
