During an appearance on TSN Radio (H/T Hope Smoke) today, Darren Dreger of TSN says he wouldn't at all be surprised if the Rangers make the reported Michael Del Zotto to Ottawa trade as soon as the roster freeze is lifted on December 28th.
Last week Adam posted that the Senators were offering defensman Eric Gryba for Del Zotto.
...despite last night's complete effort, the Rangers still need a shake-up and trading Del Zotto would do just that. And don't be shocked if he figured it out somewhere else, as I'm convinced he needs a change of scenery before he's able to straighten himself out.
...what frustrates me the most is that last night we got a glimpse of how good Del Zotto can be, but his first four years have been filled with peaks and valleys with way more emphasis on the latter.
Dreger also makes an interesting observation of the Rangers organization stating that "they don't really know what direction they're headed in" and that there's been troubles with Alain Vigneault relating to players, specifically Del Zotto.
...Dreger is 100% correct in his assessment of the Rangers organization. As I mentioned yesterday regarding to the potential of Girardi being moved, the Rangers are at a crossroads right now. Does Sather overhaul the roster this offseason believing he needs to acquire players more suited to Vigneault's system or does he like the current makeup of the team and let AV take the fall for this year's debacle. Assuming how this season plays out will have a lot to do with that decision.
They have no intention of doing a full rebuild. Talbot is a valuable piece to have , but make no mistake, he's Hanks backup, It's Hanks job. I'd like to see the Team that plays in front of Talbot show up when Hanks in net.Look at the Kings, they're 3rd string goalie has won 8 in a row. (look at these goalie Numbers, Man!)http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/statistics/?hubname=nhl-kings
Granted Quick & has won a Conn Smythe & a Stanley Cup, and is hurt, but that team plays in front of their net minder every night.
Hank is the face of the Franchise, he wasn't going anywhere. Its almost foolish to think otherwise. And that's not a entirely hockey related decision. I also think he will find his game and pinning the savior pin on Talbot may be a bit knee jerk. If he does play well and a Team thinks he can be a legitimate #1, guess what, he's got more value than Hank on the trade market than Hank. (see the Bernier deal from the Kings to the Leafs last off season)
Caps going up yearly so that 8.5 isn't going to sting as much as you'd think. I also think, he's going to retire before the end of this deal & the Cap Advantage number s would be minimal with the cap continuing to escalate. Worry all you want but Hank is here to stay. The team needs to play better in front of him and support him, like he's carried that team on his back for stretches at a time over the last few years.I don't think he's done, burned out, etc... it's a bad stretch on a bad team.
Side note. His NMC does not kick in until the extension does. So if insanity prevails, he could, in theory be moved. I wouldn't order my Talbot jersey just yet though.
Should have thought about a roster rebuild before signing lundqvist. Talbot can hold his own enough to be a starter and I feel we will eventually loose him to another team because of the lundqvist contract. That 8.5 mil could have gone towards a roster rebuild instead of warming the bench for our back up to play....
@TheNYRBlog Sather-Trade Sather!
As I've said many times DZ is not bad when he plays with an edge. His 3 or 4 good games last year he was downright nasty, but then he always reverts. When he's chippy he's not thinking and there's a good hockey player there somewhere underneath that over thinking brain of his. The 2 worse things you can do are think and play scared and those are DZ's problems in a nutshell. This is my opinion and I feel he better learn this and come out every night ready to do battle, otherwise he may play his way off the team and out of the NHL. As for that trade I think it sucks, but they can't get any value on him right now. Either get some real value or keep him at this point. Maybe he can build on last game if the coaching staff is astute .. Uh nevermind.
My guess is that torts and sather didn't see eye to eye, well sather i guess torts wasn't that bad after all now you got what you want a gum chewing ass kissing mannequin.
Sather you dick, you made a mistake now get rid of this asshole and some of the players and start again and stop insulting the fan base and wasting our time
I think we overhaul the roster and let AV take the hit for this if we can get Laviolette as our coach he rebuilt Carolina and won a cup there. He did great in philly (knocked us out of a playoff spot in 09) he has proven he can win in the east. And on 24/7 he said this "we need to start playing with some jam", "it's about as casual as it gets" and "let's fucking giddy-up and go". That what this ranger team need especially playing in the east. No?
It's doesn't help with Del Zero s. Players. But I contribute as at his handling and further de valuing of Del Zero. It didn't help doing the yo yo effect. Playing. Sitting. Bad press and comments..... The guy is far less of a politician but more of a withdrawn. Recluse.. of what's expected of how to prepare and organize..... He has that Art Howe thing going on that's who he reminds me of....
AV does not deserve the opportunity to coach this team mm going forward.... outcrop yet can be improved but why blow up everything for a coach and a system that has not ever achieved a Stanley Cup
He is very over rated. Due to the talent he had in Vancouver and blame can be put everywhere... but when a guy doesn't put forth effort by his own comments and admissions. He has gotta go....
Move on from avery? How about you move on from prust. You are todays nominee for the daily prust/dubi mention. Both sucked.
I would prefer we trade DelZotto for Franson. Should be interesting to watch who plays and how well (or bad) they play in tonight's game.
@TheNYRBlog hey, Kevin, that is probably the single worst trade I have ever heard. The guy has played half of Ottawa's games?
considering that we the fans overpay for tickets, beer, food and everything else at the garden, it cant hurt to keep DZ- cant get any worse then to have had guy name Wade Redden.. remember him?? plus, the fact the salary cap will b going up, it wont hurt that much
Jeff Hu, not sure you can think like that. How's it going to make you feel when the Rangers re-sign him for three years and he continues to underachieve?
you guys are crazy. i was defending zucc the past two years and everyone (save a few) said he sucked. now those guys say he's untouchable? you are all Monday morning QBs as far as I'm concerned. just watch the games and wait to see what happens. the blog is great but this comment section is silly. no one is gonna like to read this, but it's true for a lot of you guys.
i know, i know... stop reading comments if you don't like it. that's exactly what I'm going to do.
If this a one for one deal, i don't like it. Eric Gryba & Zack Smith & a 2nd rounder for MDZ & Boyle & a 4th rounder.
hypothetical: if the rangers are on the playoff bubble and AV cant get some wins strung together, does he get fired to make a playoff push late in the season? thoughts?
Think about it if you were playing for the rangers .....and constantly hearing or read ...your gonna go I think I'd be nervous ...
watching him put up 40-50 points and even worse, scoring against us for the next 10 years doesnt make u sick to your stomach instead? The New York Rangers Blog
Jeff Hu, just concerned he won't hit that potential in NY. Change of scenery? It's very frustrating because last night he gave us a glimpse of how good he can be.
People need to move on from Avery. He will never ever be back. Loved him bit move on! Prust on the other hand I'd have back in a heartbeat. Only players I see as untouchable right now are, Cally, Zucca,mcD, krieder, steps ofcourse hank
@TheNYRBlog Call me crazy but what Sather needs to do it crash n burn this team this year, finish poorly and get a good draft position
@TheNYRBlog an overhaul of the defense is coming I think u have to give coach a chance 2 get "his players" b4 u fire him for not producing
@TheNYRBlog Del Zotto has to be one of the most frustrating players I've seen. Has so much potential but so rarely seems to use it.
So if Gryba is the player coming back, does that mean that Stralman and McDonagh are now the team's offensive defensemen or is Sather looking at another trade to fill that perennial hole? Gryba gives nice snarl to the blueline, but it's pretty sad if that's all he can get at this point for a guy that put up 41 points just 2 seasons ago.
I wish they'd jump on Lavioletteright now before someone else scoops him up. AV's not right for this team. Right now we need a guy who can take lemons and make lemonade
DZ is worth more than Franson. I'd want Franson and Biggs.
@RMDomal Yeah, if that trade happens I'm assuming there will be more involved.
Drop Boyle and that's a good deal.
Something like that...but I agree we need to add Smith as he is a center with grit who will drop the gloves if need be. It's a start in the right direction.
We wretched Zubov do it for years after he was dealt & he was WAY better than MDZ (& he won a CUP with us)
be Giradi, a pick (1st Rounder is what they are asking for) and another piece (Boyle? Connor Allen? is heading out West, With Torts in VAN and his fondness for Giradi, it's not out of the question. Detroit is currently the front runner. IF MDZ goes, getting a player like Elder makes sense. His contact doesn't scare me either. What's Giradi gonna look for as a UFA?
Alex Elder is available from Vancouver. He's def an AV type of player. May
Have u seen our wnforcers? Zuc and dorsett..... let him come. Miclrath is hurt. We need some toughness to defend the goalie and the other.... i bickel was dress I can say Cooke would have gotten his ass beat last nigjt
@PenaltySh0tCould be move involved. Just a rumor.
I've always believed that either Girardi or Staal would be traded this season due to free agency. Obviously Staal's not going anywhere so I think they pretty much have to trade Girardi, unless they plan to play a bunch of the kids next year. I like Edler, but Girardi, a 1st, and another piece sound like a bit much. Girardi's value drops a bit because of his FA status, but I don't think it goes down that much.
