Post game talk...
In order for Sather to get fired Dolan would have to exhibit characteristics that he simply never has, so I don't think it reasonable to hope for such a thing.
I think it is AT LAST finally apparent to everyone that this team needs a complete overhaul, a task that would have been IMMENSELY easier had they not signed Hank to this long term deal. The prospects of trading him with this deal are slim, particularly in light of the fact that he reveals more everyday that he is not likely to live up to it at 31...let alone 38.
So, that leaves the Rangers and Sather without what WOULD have been their biggest trading chip, to slowly make small and incremental moves in hopes of somehow eventually achieving a dynamic change. Even for a savvy GM it would be difficult to cobble this sort of strategy together with a successful result. For Sather, it will simply be a slow peristalsis, with the ironic likelihood that at the end the Rangers will still be full of crap.
Hate to say I told you so.
Can we use this blog to organize something? Maybe we can get a Fire Sather chant going at every home game for the rest of the season????
Maybe your boys at We Bleed Blue can make some "Fire Sather" T-shirts???? There's got to be something us fans can do. We need a voice!!!!
This team will not succeed with Richards being a top three forward.....the guy played 23 minutes last night, had 9 shots on net and was a -3. He does not go in the corners and is terrible on the powerplay. Head scratching decision......3 minutes left in the game, Rangers have some momentum down 3-2. Jackets ice the puck and out comes Pyatt, Boyle and I think Dorsett? WTF?
My chief complaint against Torts was 2 dimensional thinking and failure to adapt to his changing personnel. Now we have a coach with the same issues who's less savvy ( it seems) with much less passion. Several here told me Id miss Torts once AV was hired. Thanks for being right. A good start would be for the players to actually try. Still the season's young enough and we have enough decent players to get out of this mess but damn. Just like all of you I see Slats as the main problem. Though there have been a few good moves I've questioned his ability as a GM for a very long time.
if all had the heart of ryan mcd, mats z and d dorsett we would be one bunch of happy fans. if they paid by desire those 3 would be the highest paid and the rest would be at minimum. it's completely disgusting !!!! and henrik, not that he's not good, was paid too much for too long, for sure. the owners are killing the league's performance by overpaying and having contracts for too long. stop that and you'll see better hockey.
One could say the Rangers have many problems which have been pointed out here but one thing sticks out to me and that this team is consistently out skated and against not necessarily fast or good teams. Overtaken when with puck, losing battles. late to the puck, late on the fore check, creating space etc..... Few weeks ago everyone was saying the Rangers were fast team, what happened. Are they tired, hurt, lack confidence, did other teams just start to get their legs and Rangers were never that quick.
I was surprised, well not that surprised that they played badly in the beginning, considering schedule and personal and than I was surprised how well played and how quick they looked. Now I am surprised on how slow and tired they looked.
Sather is such a moron for signing Lundquist; he could of signed Talbot instead and freed up cap space for Shea Weber or Dion Phaneuf...How do you get out of this suicidal contract with Lundquist now?
Is Zucca a keeper or not? In Norwegian media they say he is very popular in NY and that he is one of the best players in NHL this last month or so. Kinda hard to belive tbh with all the great players in NHL.I know this has nothing to do with the BJ game vs NYR but wanted to know as a Norwegian reading all the positive articles written by Norwegian media, if NYR fans really like Zucca and feel that he belongs in NYR?
I totally agree! This team needs a lot of work. Thanks to Sather for blowing up the team for Rick Who! A very expensive piece as well that tends to only score when playing against bottom teams.
Not sure Kevin is still with us amonge the living haven't seen him since this post who was on suicide watch last night?
Pretty sure the WeBlledBlue guys have season tickets. They'd be taking a big risk printing a Fire Sather shirt. Fans have lost ticket privledges for much more minor things.
The chant would be great if anyone on her could afford tickets.
Another "Rally" outside of MSG like a few years ago is probably the best option.
That's why u FIRE AV. How can u justify putting that useless F..K PYATT on the ice..... As I said the guy is clueless. ...i think he is trying to get fired
That's what I think i'm going to do, I only just turned it back on before the season. Time Warner stopped showing MSG a couple winters ago so I dropped cable. "Linsanity" made them reach an agreement, but I left it off the rest of that season and all the way through the lockout year. There's nothing on TV
@Betweentheworlds Not sure I agree on AV quite yet. 1) he looks polite on the bench and to the media, but we have no idea what he's like in practice and behind closed doors. 2) I think he is trying to adjust. He tried his style, but admitted he likely didn't have the roster to play that way. So he tries to go back to a more defensive style and the players don't do that either. Look at his quote about Richards. He clearly thought he should have stayed high but he tried to make a play and got burned. If the Rangers weren't prepared night and and night out, I would put it on AV. But he looks like he's preparing them, they're just not executing the preparations. I'm with you on Sather, but we all need to come to the realization that despite all the evidence he needs to go and all our complaining, he is not going anywhere until he decides to or Dolan has an epiphany and convinces Scotty Bowman to come out of retirement.
@upstate tom I agree with you. The top paid guys were none existent. I heard Sam say late in the third period that Nash still was looking for his first shot. And that from a guy who makes 7.75 mils per year. My advise is to get the dynamite, blow up the whole team including management, get JD. to run the team and start from scratch.
Unfortunately the players association and the league LOVE the huge contracts. Big long contracts means more money to players, which means more money to the union. It also means more of an investment, so teams who are spending big need to make it up, which increases revenue, which increases the cap, which leads to more big long contracts.
It also means that UFAs looking to get paid the big bucks will be forced to go to teams with the money to spend (a la Sutter and Parise signing in Minnesota), maintaining parody in the league, which again, forces teams with the most money to keep spending it.
Hank has been lights out during his system years under Torts when he had 5 goalies in front of him blocking for him and keeping most shots from afar. Now that there aren't 5 other goalies out there in front of him he has to make more saves close up and actually use his glove which i honestly don't think he understands what its there for. He well always make that exceptional save, but goalies are suppose to make that save once in awhile. They aren't suppose to let a garbage goal in almost every game though.
Sather signed the Hank that is gone. We can pretty much say that if this is the hank that signed for the next 8 years then we have no chance of making it past the first round or maybe even the playoffs.
@jvr I don't agree, but I would love to have Weber. I'll pass on Phaneuf though.
Zucca is coming into his own and has been the most consistent forward the rangers have since he got benched in Philly! Always plays with heart and loves the team!
MZA - FTW!!!
It seems to me that Zucca has made it in the eyes of NYR fans and that you wish to keep him. Is he a elite player like Norwegian media says? Still unsure about that but never the less, he has been important for the NYR so far this season, even with a shitty start. I haven’t seen to many of the NYR games (hard when they usually start around 0130am over here) but if there’s one thing I would point out that Zucca needs to improve, it would be that he shoots way to little. Need to be a little more egotistic.
I’m sure you guys know about this way better than me, it’s just the way I see it. Thanks for replying.
Sorry for any crappy English, not my first language ;)
@GlenRogerJohansson I agree with the Norwegian media. IMO. he is the best player on the Rangers offense with McD. on defense.
Wish every NYR player had his heart and determination
He's been one of the Ranger's best playmakers and passers. He hasn't shot enough. As far as his overall rating in the NHL.He is just a good player and not elite. There are a lot of truly amazing players in the NHL.
Absolutely no reason to trade him. One of the only players who gives a fuck on this team.
@GlenRogerJohansson One of Best players in the NHL....hysterics
@GlenRogerJohansson The Norwegian media is hallucinating
@GlenRogerJohansson No, not a keeper!...Zucc is a fill in guy at best in the NHL....Only reason why he looks so good is because the Rangers are so bereft of legitimate NHL talent-They basically have a minor league roster
@GlenRogerJohansson Everything Mando says i agree with, but the only thing that i have a problem with is that Zucc tries to force the pass to much instead of just shooting. It happens at least once a game.
Keeper. ..... great vision. Relentless. Great setup and passing skills..... has and edge finishes checks.....guy earns his check... As small as he is. wish others would take notice and play like him
You might be right Gravey. It's too soon to know about AV and he seems like a smart guy. I'm just frustrated.
@CapsLOCK So why is he their captain then?
@CapsLOCKPhaenuf is not garbage, hes a rugged, physical defenseman with balls; hes plus 12 on the season-not bad for a garbage defenseman
@GlenRogerJohanssonNo apologies necessary. Thank you for your question and your contribution. From my perspective you can be proud of your countryman's efforts on The Rangers. He has shown immense "heart and character" on both sides of the puck. Goes into the corners, plays hard on the puck and backs down from no one. An excellent skater and a very deft passer. A strong fore-checker. Plays a solid back checking game, particularly when he is out of position in his offensive zone. He skates hard to recover from his own coverage mistakes.
Mr. Johansson, are there any more like him where you come from?
It said "best player in the NHL this month" I don't think they meant like the entire NHL in this current era.
At least he shown effort... He is looking to the finisher. Kreider and nash. I can't blame him for that. If that his only flaw. I would take 8 of him on my team
People are very protective over Rick Nash and I don't know why. He has not commanded much respect on the Rangers since arriving and has certainly not been a dominating force for other teams playing against us. I never liked the player as a superstar, but he is still a very skilled player. He is not in the superstar realm at all. He reached 30 goals a season by playing on a terrible team in a terrible division. True superstars will create their own chances.
My dude. ....AV came under prepared since day one... Walking like he is Scott Bowman or some shit..didn't review our players meeting. Didn't check tapes of our opponents.....His lack of stability for the young players miller being the example...... dresses pyatt...everygame just about. And the kicker. Has that useless fuck in key mins at the end of the game........ THAT'S only some of the reasons why we suxk....NO direction no leadership from the coach. Players don't respect that......or him. He is a f..King clown
Read some Toronto publications. CapsLOCK is correct. Most people in TOR want this guy traded as they're done with his inconsistent and erratic play. Some even want him to give up the "C" because they don't think he can handle the pressure of being a "C" in the biggest hockey market. He's not going to be a Maple Leaf much longer though, either through trade or free agency.
He's captain because when Brian Burke brought him in, he automatically got the "C" on the assumption of his playing history with Calgary... he has been a major disappointment, they have been trying to run him out of town for the last 3 years.. thats a fact
@SpazzBrown Maybe, but i wouldn't do that deal as idiotic as it may seem... i'd trade DZ in a heartbeat but for this one player, i just can't do it .. we would be going from mistakes to more mistakes .. a downgrade, if that makes any sense (i know it doesn't) but it is
'11-'12, Michael DelZotto was a plus 20 (third highest on the team) By your logic, DZ is a great defensive d-man, and we all know that's not true. You have your opinion, and that's fine, but please watch Phaneuf play a game. He truly is what CapsLOCK says...consistently out of position. Sure, he's physical, but many times he tries to go for the big hit and puts himself out of position. And no thanks to an impending UFA who currently has a cap hit at 6.5m per and is looking for more.
You have NEVER watched Leaf games in your life. For you to make a statement like that proves to me you illusion on Phaneuf.. he's CONSISTENTLY out of position, he CONSISTENTLY makes bad decisions leading to goals against.. the ONLY thing he has is his physicality but his errors overweigh that .. game 7 Bos vs. Tor - Tor blows 3 goal lead.. watch Phaneuf .. enough said..
@EHBIGAPPLE@GlenRogerJohansson Thx BigApple. Sadly there arent to many really good hockey players in Norway. Some ofc but there is a issue with not enough money in hockey here in Norway. Even some of those who play in the top league need to have a day job on the side :( All the money goes to other wintersports or soccer. There is one worth to mention but he has allready been drafted by the Maple Leafs;http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=27945
