Earlier in the week I posted that the Colordao Avalanche have shown interest in Michael Del Zotto, however, they don't have a top four defenseman which the Rangers are demanding in return.
Now, Denver Post's Adrian Dater wonders if Avs GM Joe Sakic will try to convince Glen Sather to take a forward, possibly Jamie McGinn, in return.
The 25-year old McGinn, who is in the final year of his contract that pays him $1.75M this season, has 5g, 5a this season.
Hope no one has either Del Zotto or McGinn on their fantasy hockey team, because it likely means your team is not good.
...i'm still confused at how Sather thinks he's going to get a top four defenseman in return from a team obviously looking for defensive help. Especially when most in the NHL probably don't view Del Zotto as equal value in return.
...McGinn, who missed a few games with a knee injury this season, has recently been criticized by head coach Patrick Roy for his lack of scoring and physical play. Sounds like he'd fit in perfectly with the Rangers. Having said that, McGinn is currently on a line with Stastny and Parenteau, so he must have some offensive upside and let's be realistic, how much more of a return can you honestly expect for Del Zotto?
More trade rumors? nothing much else to get excited about. If they could pry Stastny, obviously for more then just Delzaster that would be awesome. I heard Slats offered DZ and Pylon for a month's supply of chewing gum for AV - The Avs turned it down...
Max Talbot might be in play no? Yeah we need more defensive depth but Talbot would be a nice addition to our 2nd/3rd line.
Maybe Pyatt and DZ for a bag of pucks?
Rather trade MDZ for prospect with tons of upside. Not for a crappy forward that's done nothing. MDZ has upside i really do think he needs a change of scenery.
Rangers are not getting a defenseman in return for MDZ unless there is another piece or 2 in the trade. Despite all the vitriol towards him, MDZ is still viewed as a valuable asset and is probably a classic "needs a change of scenery" type player to most teams. McGinn for MDZ makes zero sense and there's no way Sather does it unless there are other parts to the deal.
I've posted this repeatedly, wait till Feb. when O'Reilly becomes available, and trade Stepan and DelZotto for our much needed first line center!
@TheNYRBlog McGinn has never played more than 61 games or scored more than 24 points. No thanks
@TheNYRBlog bad deal
I'm assuming Sather wants a different type of top 4 guy. Needs to find someone who is willing to gamble on the potential of a puck moving, offensive d man that has a surplus of legitimate guys in their own end who could play a top 4 role on the Rangers. Why is that confusing?
@TheNYRBlog id hold outsome more. Hes playing top4 min now n almost being assertive. His value could b much higher at deadline or in a month
@TheNYRBlog anytime you can turn your most valuable trade asset into a middling 3rd liner with terrible poss. numbers, you have to do it
remember when we could've traded Stepan straight up for O'Reilly? I'm not so willing to part with Step just yet.
@Zucc36Any team looking to acquire Del Zotto is likely lacking defensive depth, so why would they give up a defenseman in return?
@VinTric9 Yeah, with Staal out, I doubt he's going anywhere.
@RangerSmurf Anytime your most valuable trade asset is Del Zotto you're eff'd.
@TheNYRBlog agreed not unless sather steals a mac for gomez type deal, which he owes us at least 1 more good move this yr
@TheNYRBlog especially given someone like Jack Johnson still has a career, and he makes Del Zotto look like Langway back there.
@TheNYRBlog but more specifically, a 23 yr old Dman with 275 games as a 35pt/82 player should still have a lot of value.
@TheNYRBlog his likability is not tied to his on ice value, fortunately.
