The Rangers have continued their off-season of stockpiling defensemen by signing two more to AHL contracts.
Yesterday, the Sudbury Northern Life reported that Sudbury Wolves defenseman Charlie Dodero signed a professional contract with the Rangers.
Dodero, who was a teammate with recent Rangers signee Michael Kantor and participated in the Blueshirts rookie camp last month, had 7g, 20a and was a -23 last season.
Here's more on the 6', 195lb Dodero from Northern Life...
"Dodero, 21, was acquired by the Wolves in a trade with the Kitchener Rangers in 2010. The free agent proceeded to work his way into a top defenceman role with the Wolves on the strength of his fluid skating, offensive skills and open-ice hits."
Then today, the Hartford Wolfpack announced that they signed Long Island product defenseman Mike Marcou to an American Hockey League contract.
From Wolfpack website...
"Marcou, a 5-11, 180-pound native of Kings Park, NY, played 54 games this past season with the Wolf Pack’s ECHL affiliate, the Greenville Road Warriors. The 23-year-old Marcou led all Greenville defensemen in points, goals and assists, with a stat line of 6-19-25, and was +19, which was good for second-best on the Road Warrior club and fourth-best among ECHL rookies."
...Long Island represent!!!!! Got to love more Strong Island in the system after the successful Rangers careers of Matt Gilroy and the Ferraro twins. You know what? Nevermind.
...in all seriousness, got to love the defensive depth that Sather has added this offseason. Got to assume at least one of them will end up being a diamond in the rough.
...neither of these signings will negatively affect the Rangers financial ability to re-sign Stepan.
these are definitely the doings of Gorton. He likes big tough d-men, and that's the fourth he's signed in 3 months (Noreau, drafted Graves, Donnay, and now Dodero). Dodero already knows his role and is a very good player despite that awful +/-. Hardworker that never takes a shift off, is a great skater, and a tough MF. Although I think he'll cut down on the fighting as he gets acquainted to the AHL.
Always good to see guys you played hockey with when you were younger make it, goodluck to mike marcou, would love to see him make the team one day
agreed. you really can't have enough defensemen in the system. it takes longer to develop into an all around player at the position and you don't know who will make it in the big league. gotta stockpile the best ones you can find and hope for the best.
Screw you dude, just because those few guys didn't go so well doesn't mean everyone from Long Island sucks. Ass.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG all the acquired this offseason sans Ryan Graves are righties!
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Dodero is a righty.
