Update, 10:53 a.m.:
Lindberg recently spoke to Expressen.com (via Alex Nunn) about his jump to North America...
"I feel that it is the right time for me to go over. I'm not quite sure what to expect. Exciting is probably the right word."
Lindberg added that he has spoken to David Rundblad, Adam Larsson and Tim Erixon about adjusting to North America and the smaller ice surface.
...definitely click the above link to the interview to check out Lindberg rockin' the Jagr Rangers jersey. Nice work!
Newest Rangers assistant coach Ulf Samuelsson gives Rangers fans some insight on a likely timetable for Swedish prospects Jesper Fast and Oscar Lindberg to be in the NHL...
“Realistically it probably requires some time in Hartford to get adjusted to the smaller ice surfaces and the quicker pace, but both players are tremendous prospects.”
Samuelsson, who coached against both Fast and Lindberg for two seasons in the Swedish Elite League (SEL) as head coach of Modo, feels that they'll surprise people and push for positions on the Rangers in a short period.
Last season, Fast was limited to just one game with the CT Whale after his SEL season ended because of a lower body injury he sustained in his AHL debut.
...i agree with Samuelsson that both of these guys will likely need time with the Wolf Pack to familiarize themselves with the North American game. But once they do, you might see one, if not both, of them recalled before even JT Miller.
...from what I've read, it sounds like Lindberg, who was named SEL playoff MVP last season, is the more complete player and, to me, has the better chance of NHL success.
...got to wonder if Richards' struggles from last season leak into this year, how quickly the Rangers organization would look to bring up Lindberg, especially if he's tearing it up in the AHL. With the strength of the Eastern Conference and the new playoff format this season I don't think the Rangers can afford to wait very long.
I doubt either Swede gets here before Miller. I wouldn't be surprised if JT starts the season on the left side while Hags heals. And if he plays well it opens the door to Pyatt's inevitable exit. The Swedes need time in the AHL. Lindberg is suddenly being hyped as a top 6 center when he was never projected to be a point producer in the NHL. He had a great year last season but we need to be realistic with him and Fast. This will be a huge adjustment for them both and there are reasons neither were high draft picks.
Sny just posted the season holder ticket prices for the stadium series, would love to see a debate on what everyone thinks
God. Just read an article about the 2003 NHL draft class, and how stacked and deep it was, and was once again reminded that the NYR picked.... Hugh Jessiman. Ugh. (facepalm)
the Swedes are very interesting prospects. They both have great potential and have played in the third best league in the world for 3 years each now. Lindberg can be our Bergeron lite (I think he was 63% on faceoffs this season with Skellefata? jeez. we could use that) and Fast is very exiciting, he's got lots of speed and good puck skills to boot (he's Hagelin minus the bad finishing skills, and can you really ever have too much speed?). Just want this season to start already!
Could the rangers buy out Richards and then sign him to a smaller deal? I'm guessing that they can't but I never saw anywhere that they can't
I'm sure the Rangers wouldn't wait too long if Richards did struggle out of the gate but that's not going to happen this season. He's been a big time player his entire career and he's working his butt off this summer. He's going to come back like a "Man on Fire" this fall. I'd like to see Lindburg play at some point if he years it up in Hartford this season.
Does anyone think Lindberg will be invited to NYR camp or will he and Fasth go right to Hartford?
does that Jagr jersey mean he was a rangers fan as a kid? I hope! I love when rangers fans play for the rangers! that means they have pride to play here and a deep down desire to succeed for the team!
So psyched to bring in the Swedes, especially Lindberg with all of his potential. I'm hoping he can grab a roster spot when Richards is gone next year.
How can he possibly be worse than Richards ?
If he connects on one pass he willSurpass Richards' production from the second half of last season.
@shoot_the_goalie why do you have to do us all dirty and remind everyone?
@Centerman21 I think they will be at camp for sure. I would like to see them play a little in the first couple of preseason games before they are sent down.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Yeah, no idea. Would definitely be awesome if he was. Assuming once called up and all the profiles on him surface we'll find out for sure.
That was one season in a long successful career Richards has had. He is working with a trainer in Conn. this summer. He's gonna come out with a vengeance this fall. You non believers can sit back and just think how wrong you all were. I wouldn't mind hearing it for myself after arguing with you all summer. He's a bridge to the young prospects ready to move up next season. After this year he'll be gone!
I wouldn't be surprised to see both of them play a preseason game or two or three before being sent to Hartford. AV loves his Swedes and may look to catch lightning in a bottle with one of them. Some Prospect sights have Lindberg as a top prospect for the Rangers. Others don't have him on there at all. Some have Fasth in the top 5. Others he's not there. Which is it? Lindberg had a monster year in the SEL last year and was MVP in the playoffs. I think he's going to be a stud. He hasn't played in North America yet. Fasth played a game last season in Hartford and didn't look lost at all. I think he has a good future as a top 9 forward in the NHL ahead of him too!
