Standing at 6' 5", 229lbs, George Parros is an intimidating figure on the ice. Apparently, intimidating to everyone accept the 5' 7" Mats Zuccarello, who stared down the Panthers enforcer after a goal mouth scrum in the second period...
...i got so pumped when I saw Zucc get right up in Parros' face. Fearless out there.
...not sure what Paul Maurice did to Zuccarello in the KHL, but he is a completely different player since returning to the Rangers this season. Physical, confident and balls as big as the building as Torts likes to say.
...and now that he's finally chipping in some goals, I'm all for the Rangers re-signing Zuccarello this summer.
H/T to reader Chris C. for the pic.
Frodo has been through some shit. Once you enter Mordor and make it back out, tough guys with mustaches are what you eat for second breakfast.
He's like Frodo carrying the hopes of the world (the Rangers playoff hopes) on his shoulders. He takes the responsibility, even when there are bigger/faster/stronger guys on this team. Every game I love this kid more and more...LGR!
@TheNYRBlog 5'7" is awfully generous... I guess with his skates on. Love having him back.
The KHL did the trick - he's in shape and moving his legs and throwing his diminutive weight around and making an impact! I hope that he gets a contract - he's a solid depth player now with a ton of offensive upside on a team that still struggles to score - I can only hope a few larger players start to follow his lead!!!
Nice job mentioning this stare, I was pumped when I saw it too but figured it would go under the radar. It's probably not a popular position, but this new Zucc is what I hoped to see out of Petr Prucha years ago. Little spark plug guy who could score and wouldn't back down from anybody. In another stretch comparison, it's like a flashback to Little Ball of Hate Pat Verbeek ;). Love seeing this guy make things happen.
i dont mind being wrong. and i was wrong about zucc. im glad he is here and like his intensity and great play.
@TheNYRBlog While Zuke gets fewer minutes for every game, his production increases. Go figure..
Love this guy! Of course he uses the biggest stick on the ice. It just figures. Nash's and Kreider's sticks should shrink in embarrassment when they watch him play. No...not everyone has to be Prust, but it is pathetic that the three most physical players on the NYR; the three who always finish their checks; the three who night after night drive to the net, are also three of the smallest in Zuc, Cally and Hags. Someone in management has to call attention to that simple fact!
@TheNYRBlog I thought the same thing last night! Seemed like parros felt bad even to even stare back at him. Zucc had fire in his eyes!
@TheNYRBlog lol, love it!
Zuc has been a great spark to this team. The dude battles every shift, glad to see him finally get rewarded with a goal last night. Gotta say though, isn't it kind of ironic that the smallest guy on the ice is the only one who isn't afraid to get to the dirty areas in front of the net?
I almost punched a hole in my wall when I saw this. It got my so pumped. I love the attitude from him since he got back. Lock him up for 2 to 3 years this summer!
@AJK Ahh Verbeek, small but strong as an ox. Great player
@AJK I actually thought it would go under the radar as well and wasn't going to do a post on it. But then a reader send me the pic and I saw others mentioning it, so I knew I needed to put it up on the blog.
@jmacwilli interesting point you got here actually.
... even if it means staring down parros
@AG_Blue reminds me of how russell crowe lived in a smallish place with lowered ceilings to help him take on the tough guy persona of bud white in LA Confidential.
@_Jack Knew you'd like this Jack.
@KevinDeLury @AJK Just awesome! I noticed this immediately as well and was wondering if anyone else did. Awesome job posting on it Kevin.
@KevinDeLury I like it, you're finally coming around. I mean, damn...now you're talking about signing him during the offseason!
