Yesterday, John Tortorella was a guest on the Michael Kay Radio Show (ESPN Radio) and discussed how this year, despite the Rick Nash trade, was a sideway step for the team and just because the Rangers made it to the Eastern Conference Finals didn't mean the Finals were a guarantee...
...this was the second straight interview with Kay that Tortorella mentioned that the team underestimated the loss of Prust, Dubi, Anisimov, etc. Assuming he feels a lot better about it now that the Rangers made the moves they did at the trade deadline.
...also found it very interesting that Torts would admit that it was almost Stepan in the Nash deal instead of Anisimov. Guess they made the right decision. lol
...i've got to say, I love Torts when he's a guest with Kay. He's very candid and much more likeable than he is with the beat writers. Wish he was on more.
After last year, they asked him to be a weekly guest (which I assume they pay him) and he turned it down on air. He said he'd be happy to talk occasionally but not weekly.
Seems funny the way they perceive their own prospects. Anismov took years to bring into the club, he was good, they knew it. Dubi was also from their system and good.
.Yet they figured they could make up for the loss(.Not to mention Prust, Feds and Mitchell). They don't seem to realize the quality of the Rangers prospects and the work they have put into them.Hope this result changes the way they think about their home grown players-they're pretty good compared to other teams.A lot of development that shows.Hopefully they can develop John Moore and Derek Dorsett in the same way.
I love him on the Kay show... Kay and Don always do a great job of asking questions. He seems to like them. More than Brooks anyway...
I wonder how close it came to being Stepan instead of Anisimov. I liked Artie but that would've been a dumb move on the Rangers part cause even last year, I saw Step had more upside. (Yes I know you have to give to get but that would've been too much to me.)
I wish they had asked him something about del zotto and what has happened to his game this year. Also, why Moore has been such a success
