Does Moore get the start over Hamrlik? Ive never heard of Moore, but I still think he's better than Hamrlik.
Whta have we learned today? Its Torts' way or the highway and he is firmly entrenched as the coach of this team for the forseeable future.
this trade could be designed to open up cap space for a big time unrestricted defense man next season, meaning management has decided to scrap this year and go all in next
i think this trade sucks. Gab has scored alot of goals for this team since hes been here. I like torts but i dont think he handled this well.
This is as much of a salary move as anything. I would have like to get a #1 pick back, rather than former #1 picks that have failed to live up to their potential.
Hoo boy, if we beat the Pens in the next two, do you know how sweet it would be? Can't wait to see how the comments section would react to that.
Looks like we have many years of grinding it out to come. Trading Gabby for these guys is a big show of support for Torts and the system he has in place. It does not have room for a pure skill guy. I worry about Kreider in this system as well. He is just not a banger and not sure that can be taught. Would hate to see him traded for a bag of pucks...
Also, did anyone else notice that Gabby has been working his butt off this last week? Suspect the "talk" he and Torts had was basically "if you want out of here go show you are worth something in a trade." I think Gabby would have agreed to go anywhere to get away from Torts.
Last point: I wonder how much of Gabby's problems this year are due to his shoulder and if more time to heal will help or if he is done. I think he is going to be very motivated to play against Torts.. Sure wish we could have traded him out of the division.
i really dont think this is as bad as everyone is making it out to be! we got a lot tougher to play against which we all agree is a problem and we got rid of a guy that hasnt done a lot for us lately. his 40 goal seasons do nothing for us now anyway! lets let this play out and see what happens. i have faith that this is going to be good for us.
@cb1 good question. gabby is already on a plane out to nashville to join the CBJ tonight.
@NYR44 i don't really think so. it just opens up room to sign McD, Step and Hags. there isn't that much room.
@ChristopherMatarazzo disagree. disagree. agree.
@cb1 two week s away they say.
@cb1 No he's not. They are reporting that he should be back end of regular season or start of playoffs.
@cb1 Why do we want #1 picks? We just keep them locked up in the AHL because "we don't trust them."
@tygalpin i agree. i would welcome a chance to stop kicking a dead horse. that would be great.
@greggray24 If that were the case then why would you not resign Prust? He exemplified that style. I don't think these trades mean anything other than the fact that they wanted to get rid of Gaborik (and his contract) because Torts didn't like him.
I hope the coach is the next to go.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG the biggest difference from last years team was toughness. I think this will open things up.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG i agree. suits the teams needs now and next year for sure. 3 guys and a pick. i kinda think that's amazing, classic slats. will i miss a hypothetical 40 goals next year? i dont know. im not sure how this will balance out with so many factors. what if clowe looks like a good fit beyond this year? we will have the space in a shrunken hard cap season for him and other RFAs on the team now. its also simply change. how does that affect the demeanor of other players on the team that a pure goal scorer (of the past) could get traded to CBJ? i dont know how this will play out. no one does. but i felt optimistic when i first saw the deal and the details of it.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG we had to much grit not enough scoring, trade for nash. Now its not enough grit and still no scoring, trade away gaborik. We wonder why this team plays without an identity. The guys in charge cant make up their minds i think. Oh well...
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG This trade makes the rangers very easy to defend. Stack your defense against Nash and his line and the rest of the game you can skate freely. I don't see how this can help the team this year. Seriously, who is going to put the puck in the net? I realize Gaborik wasn't scoring a lot, but we all know how he is streaky. We have so few scorers now - Nash, Stepan and Cally.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG I also think Gabs is physically compromised.
@TruBluEsp uh, no.
@IcyCup i wasn't expecting the new guys to be available tonight, just Clowe.
those players are a given are they not? do you think this is the last player going by by after this season?
@TruBluEsp oh? well, that's something at least. he'll fit right in on several of the 4th lines we can form.
@Dminches kinda got a point there.
@Hotfreak look on the brightside haters of this move! maybe he'll fail his physical and the trade will be negated lol
@IcyCup Uh .. Really? So you're ok with trading 2 second round picks and a third round pick for a 3rd line player in Clowe? I'm all for getting Clowe but Sather got fleeced. Don't give the line that you never know if a pick will pan out b/c anyone can counter with a pick can pan out. You want to build organizational depth which is what we've been hearing all year and we trade 3 picks for Clowe? No Thanks. Trading Gabby is solely a move to clear cap space which I agree we needed to do in order to resign Hags, McD and Step BUT we are last in scoring goals so we trade a 2 time 40 goal scorer for a player who's never scored more than 17 in a season, a fighter/4the line winger and Dman that is still unknown. Sorry ... Can't convince me that the Rangers couldn't have gotten more in return for Gabby even if we had to wait until the off season.
@NYR44 if we still had Gaby's 7.5 on the books for next year, it would have been really hard to get all three of those guys (step, mcd, hags), and have room for Clowe as well.
"he'll fit right in on several of the 4th lines we can form."
@cb1 I would guess lines could look something like this if all healthy:Nash, Stepan, CallyClowe, Richards,ZuccHagelin, Brassard, PyattDorsett, Boyle, Powe
@TruBluEsp I just don't see where Clowe, Dorsett, Asham, Powe, Pyatt, Boyle all fit on this team now
@cb1 I actually like Dorsett and would much rather him in the lineup instead of Asham but you make a solid point!
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG ugh... i saw a tweet on TSN from a CBJ fan saying that he didnt want "the groin" on his team. you have to wonder if the shoulder is lingering as well.
@TruBluEsp clowe's price shocked me too. after checking him out a little though, seeing what he is capable of and speculating what kinda of culture change he can bring to this team (that could trickle down to others). i think that the trade of gabby could back up that culture change. i dont think that gabby was going to turn it around this year either. you can hear his implied bitterness in his call to TSN. can this culture change be tracked by stats? no. did we over pay for clowe? likely. could we be better off with gabby for this year and next and have clowe added in addition to some depth? i think so.
