For the fourth time in five years, the Rangers will face the Capitals in the playoffs. Two of those series have gone seven games, including last year's epic battle that went a little something like this...
...with the way the Rangers and Capitals were struggling last month, if you told me at that time they would meet in the first round I would have said you were crazy. And that's why I love the game of hockey. Now we get to see Ovi and the boys yet again. We talk about the Rangers rivalries with the Flyers, Devils and Islanders, but with all the recent playoff battles, you have to put the Capitals in the same category. I've officially rediscovered my old Patrick Division hate for the team from our Nation's capital. And it's going to be taken to another level now that they're going to be in the same division again starting next season.
...most of us were hoping to avoid the Penguins in the first round, but I tell you what, if you think the Rangers are hot going into the playoffs, the Capitals are on fire. They went 11-1-1 in the month of April to run away with the Southeast Division after starting the season with a 2-8-1 record. And the reason why they were able to turn it around? Alex Ovechkin. The guy had 22g, 12a in the final 21 games. Wow!!!!!
...the Rangers might also be catching Holtby at the wrong time, as after starting the year with an above 5.00 gaa and under .870 sv%, he has improved every month ending with a 2.19 gaa and a .937 sv% in April. The Rangers biggest strength over every team in the NHL is in goal, so if Holtby can match Lundqvist the Rangers could be in trouble.
NJ mailed their last game in and we finish in 6th vs Washington. It's better than Pittsburg but they are the hottest team coming into the playoffs - they just beat Boston who is fighting for first in north east. Maybe we get Clowe back .... We need his prust/Dubinsky grind and ability to finish around the net. Newbury brings physical play but no finish and Kreider is too tentative - too afraid to make a mistake (thanks torts) Rumors that Nash has hurt wrist. He better keep his head up of he's out there vs Ovie. Hank still needs to be our best player.
Im so bored of playing them. I want a new team to play! The key is shutting down Green and Ovi. We limit them we win the series.
I hate these guys. Let put 'em in the grOUnd! http://youtu.be/Db0AS823ODo
Yeah, I honestly would have preferred Boston. They've played a lot of hockey in the past week and NYR matches up better. In any case, it's the Caps (again). Not much we can do about it. At least it's not MTL or Pittsburgh. LGR!
I think we are in Holtby's head. Regardless of what kind of success he has had recently I really like our chances in this series. Richards is coming on at the right time, that new line of Zuc-Richards-Nash looks awesome. Just need to get Clowe, Dorsett, and most importantly Staal back and we are in great shape imo.
I think they match up well . The difference is going ti come down to star players being star players . We have the edge there . And also we are better coached ! LGR ....Rangers in 6
Look ... with the mediocre season the Rangers have had, any team they faced in the 1st round was going to pose problems. I certainly think the Penguins would have been the worst possible scenario. So are the Caps difficult? Of course they are, but so are the Bruins and the Canadians. Let's face it, if the Rangers play like they have the majority of the season, they will get eliminated quickly. But ... teams can and often do turn it on to a whole new level in the playoffs. The Rangers need to do that, and if they do ... well they can beat anybody!!!!
Lundqvist vs. Ovechkin, two of the best players in the world. Should be an awesome series.
The Bruins were my preferred team for the playoffs. We match up against them pretty well. Also, the Caps were by far the hottest team in the conference the past month, maybe even in the entire league. I'm scared.
We match up well vs this team. We can neutralie OV need to stay out of box. That will be one tough division next year.
@ATCRyan Guys - Staal can't see out of one eye. Nobody can play hockey with one eye. A few have tried, unsuccessfullly. Having no sight in one eye completely destroys your depth perception. He may never come back the same player. I personally hope he does NOT come back this year. He's likely to be rusty, out-of-shape and potentially bad, given how serious his injury is. Rather go to war with what we have.
@rangersfan Clowe has a "body" injury and is listed as day-to-day.
@TheWrage Not sure what that means. All i know is that when he got helped off the ice, it looked like he was being carried out of bar totally shitfaced. I can't believe it wasn't a concussion, but I hope I'm wrong
@rangersfan i agree. he looked like he was about talk to ralph on the big white phone.
