EA SPORTS named the New York Rangers as their official prediction for the 2013 Stanley Cup Champion using EA SPORTS NHL®’s simulation engine.
According to EA Sports, the Rangers will defeat the Blackhawks in six games and Brad Richards will win the Conn Smythe Trophy after scoring 24 points (7g, 17a) in the playoffs.
Here's how the Rangers will get to the Finals...
...someone call up Mayor Bloomberg and schedule the parade. LOL! I have no idea how good EA Sports has been in predicting the winner but this is definitely interesting. Let's just hope it's not a jinx.
...btw, 4-0 sweep of the Canadiens in the Eastern Conference Finals? Apparently the simulator isn't familiar with the term "House of Horrors."
H/T to reader Jake R.
Well, I guess it's better than a chimp throwing poop at 16 logos and basing it on the 2 he doesn't hit!
BTW, this simulator is sort of good. Check out their prediction from last year: http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/gamereport/nhl_predicts_kings_as_stanley_cup_Fw6ExTcdxiBJceKKvzaZhI#axzz2RsBFU5xX
I literally snorted laughing when I read that Richards stat. While I certainly have high hopes for him and the entire rest of this team, and I do believe the name "Henrik Lundqvist" will grace the Stanley Cup, it happening this year is going to take someone else getting Chicago out of our way first.
I'm pretty sure the last time the Rangers won the EA sim, they had just signed Gomez and Drury... Maybe not the best predictor.
I hope their predictive prowess is better than their "artistic" renderings of the players. Why do all the players look like they have (I won't actually say it)? And what's up with the hair on the far left -- is that supposed to be blond?
As long as we have some exciting games like that 3OT last year, I am ready! Warning people at work that if I look tired it probably is from a late night with the Rangers and not in the bedroom ;)
"House of Horrors" hahaha... I somehow don't see that happening SIMPLY because they can't score in the Bell Centre to save their lives.
If someone could find out Dorsett's status for this upcoming series, he's been the forgotten part of that trade due to his injury. But is the type of player we want on the ice asap!
Unfortunately, they also had Richards scoring 24 points in 24 games. Who knew computers could get so high?
@KevinDeLury That was only for the finals; I can't find their postseason predictions. It looks like they predicted the Penguins at the beginning of the season, like everyone and their mother did.
@JamesU Don't mind the fact that Richards has been poopoo since he got his career-ending contract here. He'll dominate the Penguins and sweep the Canadiens for us!
@Zelrio My bad. Didn't look at the date of the article. If they were actually that close that would be amazing.
@KevinDeLury No problem. I found it now; they had the Canucks beating the Kings in the first round. http://www.ea.com/ca/news/nhl-12-predicts-the-2012-stanley-cup-playoffs-conference-quarterfinals
