Bob McKenzie at TSN reports that if Ryane Clowe is moved, the Rangers, Vancouver and Philadelphia seemed to be the most likely landing spot.
Katie Strang at ESPN.com adds that the Rangers remain keenly interested in Clowe.
Clowe is in the final year of his contract that pays him $3.625 million this season. And in case you need a reminder, he has ZERO goals this season.
...after seeing the paltry return for players such as Iginla, Roy and Jagr, you have to assume the Rangers should be able to get Clowe for a middle round pick or a middle of the road prospect.
...if the Rangers can get him for that low a price, hey, why not? The guy is notorious for playing with jam and, while his numbers have been in decline, you have to assume his inept scoring this season is just an anomoly.
...tough spot for Sather this deadline. This team needs help, so you'd like to see him not waste another year of Lundqvist in his prime and bring someone in. At the same time, I'm not sure one move can fix this team, so I'd hate to see him mortgage the future on a rental. Tomorrow should be interesting.
Meanwhile, as I mentioned, this happened today...
The B's make it official - Boston has acquired Jaromir Jagr from the Dallas Stars. Read full release: bbru.in/YtTZMs ^BB— Boston Bruins (@NHLBruins) April 2, 2013
...man that Penguins/Bruins Eastern Conference Finals is going to be awesome. Unless of course the Ryane Clowe/Mats Zuccarello led Rangers crash the party.
Read on some other blogs that we may be in on Glencross or McBain, can't believe we'd go out on a limb and get Clowe and not bring in a defenseman.
I'll take it. Not too much being given up. Glad to see we finally sign someone to go on the left side.
I really wanted Pyatt to pan out, but at this point I'd like to see him moved. The "role" he was brought in to fill is still vacant, and I'm not sure what we need him for anymore, unless Torts "trusts" him more with mionutes down the stretch and Miller or Kreider are heading back to Hartford.
Conditional second becomes a fifth if he doesn't re-sign or if we get eliminated before conference finals according to TSN.
From a Sharks fan on NHL.com's comments section:
"I think it was unrealistic to think SJS could get 1st + prospect for Clowe. Despite the stats, Clowe has brought a lot to SJS. He brings "grit", decent hands, good board-play, and he's fun to watch. On the other hand he's slow, not super responsible defensively, and takes annoying penalties. He definitely sticks up for his linemates and team, and he really is just having the worst luck this season (4-5 posts in the last few games, and just can't get it in the back of the net.)"
Rangers got Clowe.
Rangers and clowe have already agreed on parameters of a new deal that will be signed soon. So those picks are not too much after all especially if we can recoup some in the summer.
Clowe knows: Fighting http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/1524
Maybe Glencross tomorrow? Boyle the other way and Thomas? Pyatt for a pick? Hey ill take clowe and Glencross instead of Boyle and shit in his pants Pyatt. Improvement I would say?
Pierre Lebrun confirms he has waived his no trade clause. Broadway bound. Kypreos says he expects rangers to extend him.
If he doesn't have an immediate impact his first game send this dude seaworthy. So sick of the Clowe hype already.
Did we finally get our replacement for Prust!? I'm kinda surprised we gave up that many picks but whatevs we signed a bunch of undrafteds.
Bob McKenzie reports Clowe on his way to broadway. 2nd and a third . If he resigns another conditional 2 Nd
no MZA, send Kreider down, sit Pyatt. Clowe, Asham, Haley, Pow! There is plenty of talent on this team. Whats needed is GRIT...
Grit is what get's you into the playoffs (last years Ottawa.) Grit is what helps an 8th seed take a one seed to the brink despite a big disparity in talent.
@TheNYRBlog Roy would have been fun because you can chirp him and he'll fire back. Not block us like MDZ.LOL
I'm not so sure about Clowe. Who does he bump? Pyatt? Kreider? Is he any better than these 2? I mean do we need this guy that badly? Instead of playing during the lockout he was standing behind the bench as an assistant coach for the hapless San Francisco Bulls ECHL minor league team playing in the Cow Palace. I'm not making this up!
If they aren't going to play Krieder and Miller....which makes little to no sense since every game this season was important and Miller should stay in this role which he has done well in..... Then they need to get Clowe. Don't give up a major piece if vancover or philly want to throw a lot for him fine let them.
So it's ok to dismiss Clowe's scoring slump as an anomaly but Gaborik and Richards point production isn't? Not pointing the finger DIRECTLY at you but come on.
Though if he does really indeed have certified organic, artisanal, fair trade jam, why not?
Clowe/MZA tag team cup run. Nice ;)
Get Clowe in here asap. Play him on the 3rd line. Recall Haley....put him on the 4th line with Asham and Powe.....
And let's go to war.
Looking a bit closer at Clowe's career numbers. I think he could actually be a solid addition, as long as we don't have to give up too much or we can get rid of someone we don't really want. He may not have a goal this season, but as I stated before with Nash, the pucks just may not be going in. Clowe has a career 11.1 scoring percentage. Granted, that's helped by a 17.2% in his first year of extended play, but after that he seems to have found a solid number at 13%. He also could provide a bit of power play help, put him in front of the net. He has 78 career power play points. He would become fourth on our team in hits with 69. He would also come in and lead our team in penalty minutes and tied for the lead in fights. Maybe this could work out.
Not sure about anyone else but I am getting sick of the word "jam". This team has one guy who plays with "jam". Newbury was a guy who supposedly played with "jam"........he had Zero hits in his last game. We keep on talking about we need this and we need that. What we need is a big hulking defenseman that will not allow the opposing team to dance around in front of our net.
@Lordstanleybroadway Glencross isn't worth Thomas + Boyle.
It's not hype....he's a tough, rugged physical hockey player. Something this team desperately needs. He can play 3rd line....2nd line....occasionally throw him out there on the 1st line. A true "power" forward. A 'space creator" for the skilled players....a protector of teammates....a hitter....fighter. And when things are going right...can put the puck in the net as well.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Could b a 2014 2nd when we trade gaborik at the draft well get multiple picks to compensate
Get Haley up here with Asham....and let's get it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@chrisD ............Clowe>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Pyatt. lol
@Josh6 honestly doubt it. He's one of the only bright spots on CGY's roster, scores quite a bit for a guy that makes 2.5 mill. Don't think they'd part.
@_Jack see the problem with that comparison is that Gabby and Richie can only score. Clowe plays with serious heart, can fight, kill penalties, and can score to boot. Richie and Gabby have no qualities other than good hands.
@McPhee21 you get guys that make this team harder to play against (Clowe, Haley, Asham, Pow!) and you watch Gaborik and Richards start scoring.
@RangerGuy99 i hate the word JAM as well, as (over)used by the organization.
@McPhee21 @_Jack Park him in front if he net on the PP as well. Sather and torts know very well they effed up the Prust situation and miscalculated his importance. When we face Boston in round one we will be glad he's on our team.
@McPhee21 Amen Haley needs a call up. No more running our players and no pay back . Should open up ice for our skill which we have alot of.
@PenaltySh0t but he is 30, not necessarily a good fit for a team trying to rebuild
Amen to that statement. Teams are way too comfortable playing against us.
Playing with physical guys in the line-up...makes other players play bigger than they are. Hard to explain. I played at 5'10..buck 75..buck 80...and I played a physical game. You put me out there with the real tough guys....big bangers and throwers...between 210...230lbs....and I played like I was a 7 inches taller and 50 lbs heavier. It's just how it is....
