There is still no word on Ryane Clowe's condition after he was forced to leave last night's game with either a leg injury or an elbow to the head by Bobby Sanguinetti. Larry Brooks at the New York Post speculates that it's a right leg injury.
In an early indication of how bad it might be, the Rangers recalled Kris Newbury after the game.
...no idea what the injury could be. He did take an elbow to the chops, but his reaction was sort of delayed and it looked more like he might have pulled something in his leg. Either way, the Newbury recall doesn't have me feeling very good.
...if Clowe is seriously injured it could put a real damper on the Rangers ability to make some noise in the playoffs. Although, it'll open up a real opportunity for Dorsett to make an impression once he's healthy.
Brooks also mentions that Brian Boyle (leg) began off-ice training without his knee brace on yesterday, but has not been cleared to skate.
IF Clowe has a concussion hopefully its a minor one and he can rejoin the team for game 1 of the playoffs. Newbury is a solid temporary fix for the 4th line, and lets face it he cant be nearly as bad as Gilroy was last night.
Fun fact: At this pace, Stepan would be 30G 44A 74P +40 over an 82 game season.
Oh, and he is leading the team in points right now.
I didn't see the Clowe injury but maybe Newbury was called up so quick so he could practice and get a regular season game under his belt before being thrust into the playoffs. Optimistic side of things ;-)
I hate all the hush hush business by the Rangers. That drives me crazy. We have a freaking right to know too!! I didn't even see what happened to Clowe. Does anyone have a clip?
Dorsett, great, but why not Haley??? They're going to need those type of players to be successful in the playoffs. Chris Neil types that get opposing players off their game, forechecking grinders. Guys who start scrums in front of the opposing goalie. cuz I'll tell you one thing, they ain't goiing to win with finesse or high-flying rushes or a Soviet-era PP. And Hank can only steal so many games.
If Kreider's going to play 3 minutes a game, whats the point? Bring up Haley.
So Kevin... If clowe is hurt, worst trade ever? 3 draft picks for a guy that could only play in a dozen regular season games and then bolt. After his performance, he shouldn't get more than 4 million a year, maybe less than 3.5
Any chance the newbury call up is just to replace gilroy? Seeing has he will never wear the blueshirt again. Maybe for once the Rangers dodge a bullet here, but I doubt it....
Please stop with the comparisons between Haley and Neil. One's a career minor leaguer who can barely handle a pass right on the tape. The other is among the best at what he does - aggravate the opposition while also possessing the skills to contribute in other ways. Yeah - of course we need toughness but I don't see Haley ever getting minutes for the Rangers when it counts. jmho
@AnnoyingJoe he got 8 minutes last night, and a lot more with clowe out. I doubt he is going anywhere as long as clowe is out
@Josh6 see there u go being all negative again. but I agree. i honestly can't see what that little kid shark fan was getting all blubbery about.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Dorsett should not be in the top 6, and right now I don't want to break up the third line.... He should be on the 4th line right now. If we don't have clowe, kreider has to move up... But we need clowe
@tygalpin I missed it. What happened?
@Josh6 I'd venture to guess Newbury was recalled to replace Clowe on Saturday. Asham should be back for Saturday against the Devils. No reason to rush Clowe back for Saturday's game even though it's still an important game. Rangers can still get the 6 seed if they win and Ottawa splits their 2 remaining games.
@Josh6 Hopefully that's the reason.
@AnnoyingJoe I mean, he needed to be helped off the ice. But I am not even talking about his play, which has been extremely shaky at times. We got this guy cause he plays well in the playoffs... If he doesn't play we gave up three picks for nothing, that's terrible
@KevinDeLury Maybe I just misheard him, but he when Giannone interviewed him, asking him about how the team came out to a good start for the game after losing to Florida, he kinda swapped the current game and the last game when he started talking. Tried to find a video of it because I can't remember exactly and I'm not explaining it properly, but no luck.
@tygalpin @AnnoyingJoe @Josh6 3 second rounders (and yes they were all second rounders since the 3rd rounder is from Florida that will pick first) was a king's ransom for Clowe. I like Clowe as a player, but still. Sharks replaced him with Raffi Torres for a ONE FIFTH rounder. Was a desperate move by management. I understand, because this team is built to win now, but still. Gaborik trade ranks as one of the best in recent memory for the Rangers.
