Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Marc Staal has begun increasing his off-ice workout at the Rangers practice facility, but there's still no timetable for him to resume skating or return to the line-up.
...awesome to see Staal progressing. While the Rangers would absolutely love to have Staal back in the line-up asap, they're doing the right thing by taking their time with his recovery. No need to rush a guy who's basically a year removed from severe post concussion symptoms. I'd be shocked if he made it back by the end of the regular season.
...big props to Sather for getting Moore in the Gaborik trade which gives the Rangers addition blueline depth to overcome Staal's absense.
Staal is the Rangers best defenceman. His play before the incident proves this.He is in his prime and let him heal-he had orbital fractures and let them heal up.I have read nothing about concussion symptoms so that is just stinkin thinkin by some fans about his situation. A blow to the face isn't going to be threatening as far as concussion, those orbital bones are there for exactly this reason-protection of the eye and head from blows-let them heal.Maybe we'll see him back in the playoffs.Healthy recovery Marc!
I'm no MD but if he was having post concussion symptoms he wouldn't be doing off ice workouts. They must know that he is able and capable of coming back here soon. Heck no surgery didn't even go to hospital that night. Crosby was rushed to ER right away and had surgery same night he got hit. He looked good at the game a few days back. I wouldn't be surprised at Ll that staal returns soon.
We need staal back if we want any chance of going deep in the playoffs this year. Girardi and McDonagh are not what they were during last year's run, this year Staal was an anchor when healthy, and arguably the teams 3rd best player behind Lundqvist and Nash
Sather looks like a hero after last nights game . Good move . Next year is going to be Gaborik's injury year anyway . Or is it his 40 goal year ?
Getting Moore might have been the best move Sather's made. Basically a slightly less talented McDonagh, such a pleasure to see him over Hamrlik.
@AnnoyingJoe Dubinsky was super for them last night. watch these highlights:
Bunch of scoring ops. Dekes a guy out of jockstrap. Sets up 2 goals, including Gaborik's. He's a better player that a lot of people give him credit for.
@AnnoyingJoe Looks like he needed a change of scenery also... I still like the trade
@AnnoyingJoe Gabby wanted out - keeping him here (with his shoulder and history of injuries) was a gamble they didn't want to take. Of course he's going to return to form. He seemed to be playing less timid his last couple games here. No surprise. Love him and miss him but don't blame Slats for moving him. He's gonna so burn us next year.
@trazjaxor having suffered 6 concussions as a kick boxer/martial artist I can attest to that. A localized impact to that area will usually not concuss you. It's the broader impacts like elbows, shoulders, collisions with the walls and ice that usually do it. He may make it back right before playoffs but I'm sure they are not going to rush back their best Dman too early. To big of an investment.
@Lordstanleybroadway I've had PCS and yes, no way he'd be skating. It's such a miserable condition and you can't exercise, can't be out in the sun and you get wicked bouts of depression and you think you will never get better. Staal's evolving into one of the league's best Dmen now. I could see him coming back early, maybe a couple games before the playoffs. We'll need him to make a serious run.
@Josh6 With the change of team chemistry Gr and McD may return to last year's form
@PenaltySh0t in fact he is a better skater than Mcdonagh, but a worse "hockey" player... hopefully torts can mold this kid
@rangersfan nice. watch on mute though. omg shutup
@DuPont_Snotty me too. guess my sarcasm fell short
@Josh6 Torts gave him 14 minutes and cut McD's minutes to 18 instead of the usual 900,000. Torts has to see something in this kid, and he hasn't disappointed.
@greggray24 Torts really trusted him too......enough that McD only played 18 minutes......has McD ever played such few minutes before?
@rangersfan @trazjaxor lol Rangersfan - There was a time martial arts was my life and my instructor encouraged me to become an amateur kick boxer to develop in the arts, but these fucking guys wanted to take my head off - 3 nose fractures and a few concussions later I stopped at 31 - I was pretty good though, a few draws but never lost, never got knocked out. Anyway if I'm stating my views here I expect others to disagree so no worries there. We New Yaukas are passionate about our hockey team. LGR
@PenaltySh0t thats a great question...
