Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that before last night's game vs. the Maple Leafs, John Tortorella left open the possibility that J.T. Miller could be recalled from the CT Whale if the Rangers require a reinforcement up front.
Miller was assigned to the Whale on Tuesday.
Here's Torts on why Miller was sent to the AHL...
“He did some good things, but you could see more and more mistakes come into his game. That’s the wrong way to develop a player. He’s only 20 years old.”
...with the added depth at the deadline, I really have no issue with the Rangers decision on Miller. Actually, I praise them for it. The only reason will was initially brought up was out of necessity. And while he started off red hot, eventually the speed, pace and physicality of the NHL deemed to be too much for the 20-year-old.
...makes sense that the Rangers are still open for a Miller return this season, because he proved that he can help when called upon and won't be overwhelmed by any situation.
Common sense and a rudimentary understanding of hockey would certainly call in to question Pyatt's place on this team and yet HE'S PLAYED EVERY SINGLE GAME.
Interesting how many young players are strugglinig. Couterier, B .Schenn, Ottawa's young guns, Galchenyuk, even Gallagher has slowed down. Seguin is not doing all that well. Nugent Hopkins has really taken a step back..
Pyatt seems like the odd man out this year. Also not for nothing but Asham has been somewhat impressive when he was put up on the 3rd line for brief periods. He was on the ice for Hagelin's goal and almost had one of his own.
Don't forget we should be getting Dorsett back by the time the playoffs start.and his style of play is perfect for the playoffs.
Only reason he is brought up, if Pyatt is completely taken out of the lineup, and Boyle goes down to the 4th line. But Kreider played better as of late, and he would be the first player I call up, especially come playoff time, since he has already been there
I personally think we should call Kreider up. The third line has annoyed me recently where Brassards passes are going to waste cause Hags and Boyle aren't great finishers, we really could use one more finisher, think Kreider can fit that role.
The real question is who is scratched when Staal comes back? Eminger has been a lot better than Stralman lately. I don't think Torts would bench Moore, to me it seems like he's to high on Moore for that.
@Josh6 Lets hope that happens (Pyatt being exiled from the lineup)
