The fourth and youngest Staal brother, Jared Staal, has been called up by the Carolina Hurricanes and is expected to make his NHL debut tomorrow night against the Rangers, according to the Hurricanes official website.
Jared, a 22-year-old winger, was originally a second round draft pick of the Phoenix Coyotes in the 2008 entry draft. He was moved to the Hurricanes for a 5th round pick after the 2009-2010 season and has played in the AHL since. This season, he has four goals and three assists in 52 games for the Charlotte Checkers.
Good for him to get the call up, and it now means that all four Staal brothers will have played at the NHL level. Congratulations to the Staal parents on having really good genes. If Jared sticks at the NHL level in any capacity it will most likely be as a fourth liner, and even that is highly questionable. But for now it will be a great moment for him to step on NHL ice with Eric and Jordan as his teammates. The only thing ruining the occasion is Marc's injury. It would have been incredible to see all four Staal brothers in the same game. And it would have been an absolute nightmare for Sam Rosen, though three on the same team won't be easy to handle, either. Perhaps Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller will play them all on the same line and really make things difficult to follow.

I saw Jared Staal play in person when I was in home in Charlotte for Christmas. Wasn't all that impressive.
Didn't joe say something last night about Dorsett being ready for the first round... I would do anything I see him in the lineup right now. Also I know pyatt has two goals, but to me that's a benefit of right place at the right time. I think kreider needs to get a game with Richards and zuccs.... He has played well with Richards all year and he could really bring this team to another gear. Please torts give the kid a fair shot to earn his keep... Not on the 4th line
Ridiculous stunt on the part of Hurricanes. Will definitely get the Eric and Jordan pumped up though, which is bad for the Rangers.
Any word on Marc staal? It seems like a lot of people said he would be back weeks ago, but like a lot of his precious injuries this seems more serious than the first glance that we gave it
Just for entertainment: I wonder what Sather could chisel out of Carolina for Marc? The Hurricanes obviously have hard ons for the Staal family.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG If they really wanted Marc, I'd ask for Skinner, Ryan Murphy, and a 1st. The Hurricanes would most likely say no, but I wouldn't take anything less than that if I were Sather.
His actual trade value might not be as high as it should be due to the injuries he's dealt with the last two years, so even if they decided to trade him, I don't think they'd ever get fair value.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG I wouldn't give Marc away for anyone on that team. Probably not even skinner and a first
@Josh6 I said just for entertainment. Thanks for the wet blanket haha but I agree it would have to be someone like Faulk and a high pick.
@Josh6 no one else ever wondered what Carolina would give up for the 4th and most valuable (because of his position and talent) Staal? I never say never on a trade. But I would probably never trade Staal.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG even still dude... That draft pick will take 2 to 3 years to develop, and Faulk is nowhere near staal in terms of talent. We have to keep building for the future, but we need to be in win now mode with hanks career more than half over
