Anthony Reiber at Newsday reports on the relationship between Rangers players and Mets pitching phenom Matt Harvey...
"The Connecticut native and new Manhattan resident is keeping an eye on the NHL's Eastern Conference, where his beloved Rangers are fighting for playoff spots with the Islanders and other teams.
Harvey is friendly with many Rangers, including fellow New Englander Brian Boyle and star goalie Henrik Lundqvist. Harvey has gone out for meals with the hockey players and they follow what he is doing for the Mets -- which is pitching very, very well in his first two starts (2-0, 0.64 ERA)."
Here's Harvey on the Rangers...
"I grew up a Rangers fan," Harvey said. "I've always been really into hockey. It was a lot of fun. Those guys more than welcomed me. Hopefully, when we get back, I'll be able to check out a game or two. Hopefully, they'll make a run and try and sneak into the playoffs."
...as if I didn't love Harvey enough already. Can you say man crush?
...it doesn't surprise me when sports teams in the same city cross over like this. I'm sure the athletes have plenty in commmon, including the pressures of playing in New York, expectations and everything else that goes along with being a professional.
...let's just hope that Harvey will be able to continue rooting on the Rangers in the playoffs the way Justin Tuck of the New York Giants did last season.
@TheNYRBlog slow your roll cus he also loves the Pats
@TheNYRBlog why would you love anyone on the Mets? The Islanders of baseball?
@TheNYRBlog going to the game tomorrow?
As a lifelong Mets & Rangers fan, I love this so much! I saw that Boyler tweeted about Harvey last week.
That kid's gonna be a star for years to come. Assuming they don't deal Wheeler for Stanton, I'm pumped to see those 2 put up 0's for the Mets. Optimistic times for Mets/Rangers fans!
@ScottyHockey Everyone has their hangups.
@ajauletta Sadly no. You?
@gravey94 I'd do for wheeler for stanton in a heartbeat. Stanton is 23 and already has had 71 home runs the past two years. The guy is a stud!
@TheNYRBlog seriously... i don't watch the mets or follow basebll. i've never heard of the guy.
@TheNYRBlog how did lax go? how are you holding up the morning after?
@TheNYRBlog of course, I thought of all games you would be at this one
@TheNYRBlog a girl i know said she would blow brad richards b4 tomorrow nights game, maybe it will help him relax. what do you think?
@clarkeybabes You might, but no way the fish do it. They are gonna want at least D'Arnaud and probably another prospect or 2. That's a lot to give up for a guy has yet to drive in close to 100 runs and hits 35 homers a year.
@TheNYRBlog I can't imagine, haha. Worth it though?
@ScottyHockey Hurting my man. Hangover from all the beers I drank post game aren't helping either.
@TheNYRBlog that's a great point!
@ajauletta Unfortunately, when you've got three kids it's not that easy to get out of the house.
@TheNYRBlog she is scared they are gonna buy him out, she wants him to turn it around ASAP..
@the1andonlydg I'm down for anything at this point. lol
@gravey94 good point
