Last week I posted that Ryane Clowe could be looking for an eight-year extension this summer with the Rangers, however, Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun reports that the newest Ranger gave up on his sign-and-trade demand when he couldn't find anybody willing to give him that deal at the trade deadline.
Clowe, who Garrioch believes will re-sign with the Rangers this offseason, was looking for $5.5 - $6 million per.
...insane to think Clowe actually thought he'd get a team to accept a trade for him knowing they'd be committed for eight years.
...i also think his asking price of around $6 million per is way too high. Maybe I'm completely lowballing, but I'd hate to see the Rangers go above $3.5 million per.
...i do like hearing that the Rangers will likely re-sign him as we've already seen the positive impact his physical game brings to the line-up.
We'll see. Does he want to stay in NY, or does he care about money? If the answer is money, some team will pay him over $4 Million a year. But if he likes it in NY, then I can see him staying he for his current contract (I believe he makes around $3.5 Million)
no way...let him stay for this year and don't re-sign if he wants more than current contract.
we do have other talent to sign and make room for on the roster after all. kreider and miller will be ready eventually. let them have a full torts training camp and plenty of seasoning from this year to develop.
HAHAHAHAAH!!!!!! When I read $6M per year I laughed so hard I nearly wet myself!!! Good one Ryane!!!
Have you seen this? Adorable Sharks fan mad about trading Clowe:http://t.co/AMtpH7pexZ
Let's see how he does over the next 10 games. He's certainly worth 2 hamerliks and a Boyle (hope Boyle can get hot moving into the post seaaon). His energy seems to have given a much needed lift to the team. Love how he plays whistle to Whistle and gets in the face of the opponents D and goalie. P
@TheNYRBlog Clowe has not shown any worthyness of being a $6M player. Hes worth $5M at most. Calihan is the player who deserves $6M!
Kadri for the leafs said that he isn't afraid to play the rangers tonight, and that they are the most physical team in the league. Man would I love to see the Rangers send a message to the league tonight, and hit everything in sight
The contract has to be 5 years for 20 million. Or 6 for 23.5 million. Six years is even to much, but his cap hit should not be above 4 million. These are both maximums anything more is a bit ridiculous. Having said that letting Prust go for the extra money did not work out well for us last time... I just hope sather doesn't think about that and dole out too much extra dough
@TheNYRBlog are we to believe something Garrioch says?
It's Garrioch. Let me hear this from someone else and then I'll believe it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Clowe asked for that cause why not, might as well try. But if he actually thinks he's going to get then I don't care how much he helps the room - see ya! (Side note: Don't think he deserves $6 mil but could see him getting between $4-5 mil. It just can't be from Rangers cause they don't have cap to do that.)
@TheNYRBlog he has alot of miles on his body. But i do resign him but not for anything more then 4mm max
$6mm per, that's laughable, for that kind of money he better insert some rockets on the bottom of his skates so he doesn't appear to skating through mud. I like the guy's grit and board work but when I watch him skate I keep thinking of the fat guy from the original Nintendo ice hockey.
You can see where he'd want to start negotiating at 6 mil after seeing what Prust got. He's the same kind of grinder/fighter except much bigger and can put up points. If I were him I'd want a mil or 2 more than Prust.
All depends on what Sather thinks he's getting. Lucic has a cap hit of $6M and has had pretty similar numbers to Clowe a few years ago. Clarkson is also due for a raise, so these 2 guys may set the market. I would guess Clowe will fall to $4.5 - $5M per year for like 3 or 4 years. I'd say $3.5M would be a pretty big bargain given his past performance, unless they increase the length.
@TheNYRBlog If u pay him more than $3.5 mil per what do u pay McD, Step, etc when contracts up soon. Dangerous going much higher than that
@TheNYRBlog To increase your own legitimacy you should probably hesitate to quote Garrioch. He's up there with Eklund and others.
@TheNYRBlog 4.5 per/5 years = max. deal I'd give Clowe
It's amazing how fast we all want to re-sign him for that kind of money once we let prust leave for just 2.5 per. Just goes to show how valuable these players really are, especially to fans.
@maxie looks just like me when we traded michael samuelsssson to the sharks.
@Josh6 They have Orr, Fraser, McLaren and Franson who all like to drop the gloves. My response is "who cares!!!!". Our lineup will not back down from physical play and should and will skate circles around them.
@Josh6 wouldn't it be weird if he said "I'm really afraid of the Rangers"
@Josh6 6 years is too much for a guy who is already 30 and who's production is on the decline. The market might dictate that he gets in the 4 to 4.5 range though. Sather will probably play hard ball with McD, Step and Hags, so we will have the cap room for Clowe.
@gravey94 Lucic only got 6mil because of his age and the fact tht it was his first UFA contract.. bitch boy Clarkson will get around 4.5 -5 but his goal scoring has been really good over the past two seasons.. i cant see Clowe getting more than 4 per for 5 years.. hes never get a cap hit over 3.6 and his best days are behind him
@cb1 I would think step gets the most of the three any where from 3.5-4.25, McDonagh gets 3-3.5 and Hagelin gets 2.5-3. So in my mind you are looking at somewhere between 10 and 11 million dollars for the three. Hopefully
@cb1 idk they have the most fights in the NHL, kind of like us last year. So I am sure there are a couple tough guys, but I would love to see asham or clowe set the tone early. It is going to be a hostile environment, an early goal would be huge
