Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Brian Boyle is out indefinitely with a lower body injury.
...and Boyle's nightmare season continues.
...time for Stepan, Richards and Brassard to step-up in the faceoff circle.
This injury obviously opens up a huge opportunity for Chris Kreider, who told Katie Strang at ESPN.com that he focused a lot on check-finishing, especially on back-check with the Whale. He added that he wants to have a "positive impression" on the game, even without scoring.
...there's been a lot of talk by Rangers fans, myself included, regarding the Rangers terrible handling of Kreider this season. And they have. However, I think the idea that Kreider's confidence is being destroyed is a little overblown. I can guarantee you, every time the Rangers have decided to re-assign Kreider to the Whale he has had a conversation with Torts about the situation and what is expected of him as well as what he needs to do to improve. Kreider is a very mentally strong young man and I'm fully confident he can handle this current situation.
...i'm expecting big things from him the rest of the way.
On the injury front, Derek Dorsett, who participated in the Rangers infamous skating test today, told Strang he will start shooting in the next week or so, then will begin doing battle drills in practice before he can narrow in on a return date.
While Marc Staal told Gross that light still affects him as his eye may be dilated permanently. He adds that wearing shaded visors an option.
...nothing I'm hearing about Staal's vision is any good at all.
Expect the same line-up tonight, including Henrik Lundqvist.
@TheNYRBlog 4th line duty with his speed he needs to be 3rd line. 4 minutes TOI is BS
@TheNYRBlog nope he's on 4th line
im goin by his recent play which hAS Been good, sorry but ur a boyle hater just like the rest of the fans, look past only havin 2 goals, hes 1 of the best faceoff men in NHL, HEs takin the body, givin out hits more than any foward other than cally, n is one of our best penaly killers. ur way off base on this, sorry but ur wrong, u obviously havnt been watchin the games, n for u chris, u got no balls big fukin deal ur 5'10, ur a moron, tuff guy
I'm confused. I thought Brian was out because of an injury. Do you mean to tell me that he is healthy and not playing tonight?
chris? ur a ranger punk hidden behind ur computer. me and fat reverend al will fuk up u and all u stranger fans'onnnnnn
Boyle has no balls for an Irishman...I'm 5' 10" and 180 and I'll beat the living shit out of Boyle LoL When u are 6'7" 240 I think u need to be a lil TOUGH as well as know how to fight. He should be ITALIAN just likes to talk about what he would do to the guy LMAO that rookie who was 6'4" on flyers was laughing at him because he knew Boyle was a pussy! I'm Irish and Italian so I talk it then back it up lol.. anyway enough of this I want Dorsett in line up as soon as he can ..you people will drop your panties for this guy HEART and SOUL and will make Prust an after thought. LGR!!!!
I think it will be his shot to gel with Brassard ..these two can skate and the skill is there..torts play them together along with Hags..could be nice 2nd or 3 rd line
he's an easy target for Tort's wrath....pity he doesn't have the balls to make Richards sit upstairs with Sather and watch the game
Steve, he has two goals this season and has found himself in the press box as a healthy scratch because of his disappointing play.
Before we decide to go crazy and take apart the team if we lose tonight and get rid of every player who performed awful for us, let's at least admit that we now see just how important a Torts training camp is for the whole of the team. Is Richards absolutely blowing something awful? Yes. But aside from Nash and Stepan no other player seems to really be putting points on the board consistently. This season hasn't been kind to many people, but it is safe to say that we did overachieve a bit last season. And yet, I think it can happen again. We'll find a way to make it into the playoffs, unfortunately as the 8th seed. Things will get...interesting.
But hey, maybe we'll be the Kings from last season. They averaged 2.29 goals a game (29th in the league), gave up 2.07 (2nd), and special teams aren't drastically different. So ya know...anything can happen.
How in ur mind has boyle season been a disater? hes been playin his best hockey since the concussion the past month. wins faceoffs 1 of our best PK. is among team leaders in hits. hes gonna b missed
No excuses tonight. Two points at home against the worst team in the NHL, or this is the beginning of the end.
From my perspective, Torts / the Rangers didn't handle it that badly. yes there was the jerking around when Nash got hurt, but for the most part, he was underperforming and wasn't physical enough. After he came back from his stint in the minors he was MUCH better. Then they sent him down when the got Clowe and Brassard - an easy choice. What's SO terrible about that?
This type of situation is where Kreider thrived last year. The rest of the season in essence are playoff games. Hopefully he has a repeat performance
Richards is still trying to perfect the technique of winning faceoffs from his knees.
Not worried about the handling of Kreider or his confidence one bit.
What happened to Boyle? I read that he left the game, but didn't see why.
@JoshKaye Yes, but the Kings also steamrolled through the last 5-10 games before the playoffs, and kept the ball rolling after. The Rangers have no momentum right now, but I expect them to at least put up a good fight and maybe win the 1st round...anything can happen with Pittsburgh because of their shaky tending and D, plus we play pretty well at Consol.
Two biggest things we need going into the playoffs: FORECHECK, and Lundqvist catching fire. Without that we're toast.
@Josh6 If they lose tonight...I don't even know....
Mostly jittery and whiny fans got all bunged up over it
@AG_Blue Luke Schenn had a leg on leg check with him. Clean hit, but Boyle was hit awkwardly and wasn't able to really skate.
@coontzbloontz I'm just tryina find a goddamn bright side to this season and what could possibly happen lol.
And hey, at least we have one of those two going for us right now. Although it doesn't help that we can't score when he's on fire.
@BrendyJohnson one of three things happens. At the end of the season we either: A) buyout brad Richards B) fire tortorella C) fire Sullivan (this option would be the least effective, basically saying its okay let's throw this year away and try again). I think it is time for everyone to face facts, and see that Brad Richards career is over. If he is not falling down, he is turning over the puck. Get rid of him and his awful contract, and let brassard be your second line center, and miller the 3rd
@Josh6 @JoshKaye @coontzbloontz His rookie year he was dead last with 38.6%, he jumped to 44.5%, this year he's at around 46%. From rookie to sophomore year was a nice jump but...that was expected since no one can be that bad at faceoffs.
As for Richards, since I have far too much free time and I don't feel like doing college work, I was curious to see what his faceoff percentage was throughout his career. 48.5%. When we signed Richie, we didn't get a guy that would own in the faceoff circle. Brassard isn't someone who lights up the faceoff circle either. All three guys have career percentages less than 50%.
@Josh6 @JoshKaye @coontzbloontz I hope he gets better. At this moment in time, out of players who qualify for faceoff stats (don't even know how one qualifies for that but NHL.com seems to have a system), he's 65 out of 81. All three seasons he's been playing he's in the bottom 20...I really hope that changes
@JoshKaye @coontzbloontz he is 22. Feel confident that will come, he can work on that all summer, hopefully with Bergeron :p
@JoshKaye @coontzbloontz you want a bright side to this season? Derek Stepan is the bright side.... He grew into the number one center we have been trying to buy for years. Ironic huh? With all the money we spent on gomez, drury and now Richards, the center ends up coming from within
For now ....
I appreciate where you're coming from on this, and we'll see, but I strongly doubt any of those three things happen.
