Elliotte Friedman at CBC Sports reports that the Rangers are believed to be big Curtis Glencross (Flames) fans.
The 30-year old Glencross has 14g, 8a this season and is on the books for $2.55 million per till 2015.
...Glencross can definitely add a little jam to go with some goal scoring and at $2.55 million isn't all that expensive. But recent rumors had the Flames asking for goaltender Ben Bishop from the Senators in return, so the demands will likely be a young NHL ready player as they look to rebuild after trading away Iginla and Bouwmeester.
...other than Kreider and Miller, who aren't going anywhere, I'm not sure Rangers have many of those right now. Not sure who else the Flames would be interested in. Thomas?
Meanwhile, Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that there is considerable interest in Brian Boyle.
Brooks adds that despite a miserable season, Boyle has the size coveted by Cup contenders.
...he might have the size, but definitely not the consistent toughness.
...it's really a shame what's happened to Boyle this year. He seemed to finally be coming into his own in the playoffs last year, then boom, he takes a hard hit from Chris Neil and he hasn't been the same since.
...he's a big body who could really make a difference if he'd just go to the front of the net and mix it up every once in a while. His faceoff prowess, makes him that much more integral.
In other trade news, Brooks says there is essentially no league-wide trade chatter regarding Marian Gaborik.
...got to assume Gaborik's $7.5 million per year salary is the major deterrent here. You know, other than his just two goals in the last 22 games.
...the one thing, however, that has to make Rangers fans at least a little positive about Gaborik is that he's at least getting chances. If he wasn't creating offensive opportunities then I'd be concerned, but he's too gifted for his shots to not start finding the back of the net soon.
I still do not understand why Pyatt is in the lineup. Boyle, I thought, played a good game last night. Would love to see a 3rd line of Miller, Kreider, Hagelin and 4th line of Powe, Boyle, Asham
i think Boyle and Prust had such great chemistry and this year Boyle has been kind of lost without him. does everyone remember how many shorties Prust had last year (he had like half of the team shorties)? typically Boyle was right there next to him. man i miss Prust.
@TheNYRBlog why should we have to give up a player when all these other teams are just giving up draft picks? NYR always screwed over
Fasth skating at RANGERS practice today, lineup spot against Pitt tomorrow I think would be a big mistake for a kid to make his first appearance...
@TheNYRBlog oh boy, the guy who cheap shot Drury
Re: Gabi. He's had back-to-back solid games. I think his shoulder is definitely an issue, because outside of the one bomb of a shot that Pavalec kicked completely out of the zone last night, it looks to me like his shot just hasn't been the same all year. Very pedestrian wrister, from a guy who used to let it fly.
The Flames barely got anything for Iginla so I wouldn't be surprised if Sather works his magic and fleeces the Flames for Glencross
There was a rare sighting of Boyle in front of the net last night - it was on the power play, I believe. He did show a little bit of grit in the first period too, but did not carry it through the game at all. And, he had an uncharacteristically bad night on faceoffs.
Kev, Kev, Kev...Boyle is tough. He's got the heart of a warrior. When I think of Brian Boyle I think of 3 words. Giant, Howitzer, and Godlike. Enough with the under sell Kev! Lets let the GM's know what they could have on their hands here! (...lets drive the price up Kev) he can easily be a top center on any team in the league. Just think Crosby if he grew 3 feet! It's just the system that's held his production down. If he gets in any other system in the league then the sky is the limit. I don't really want to make this comparison but Brian Boyle forces me to make this comparison. One word. Gretzky.
@TheNYRBlog Love Glencross. Strong 2-way. Can play either 2nd/3rd line. Shown offensive punch and he's affordable. Exactly what we need.
I wish I knew what went on in these guys' heads. Consistent toughness? Is Boyle not consistently 6'7"? When he came back from that early benching, his lines' offensive pressure was awesome because he was using his body to win puck battles. Does he forget he's playing hockey or something?
TSN reporting that Jagr will be traded by tomo...i know the chances are zero but man wouldnt jagr coming back make for a fun last few weeks http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=419676
@TheNYRBlog Dallas is looking to trade Jagr... Wouldn't that be the perfect guy to come in and score some goals for us?
@TheNYRBlog for his cap hit and his ability to produce on bad teams, he would be worth it.
Seems like Hagelin isn't practicing. Which could mean that Fast is just holding his place for today with Boyle and Pyatt and keeping the other guys on the 4th line.
@Josh6 I agree. This team isn't strong enough to put him in and expect them to make up for the mistakes he will make. They won't be doing him any favors by putting him in.
@Beckfan5 he would never come back, the rangers organization treated him like crap when he wanted to stay. He is probably going back to Philly, Boston... or yikes maybe Pitt
@Beckfan5 bring him back! We'll hang his number! I mean...who else would wear that ugly number anyway?
@mvmone I am a fan of that strategy as well.
@Rex_Havok Wait, you think Boyle plays tough? The guy looks like he's allergic to the front of the net.
@swarlesbarkley8 ...last night they had a tougher forecheck and cycled real well and they scored four goals.
@swarlesbarkley8 Only way I endorse that is if the price was super cheap. I still think Rangers bigger problem is needing more jam...
@TomUrtzNYR He's definitely interesting. Don't like his contract goes till 2015 when Rangers need to re-sign everyone.
@jtf1218 So if Hags is not skating, does that mean he might be part of a trade? God I hope not!
@KevinDeLury @Rex_Havok BB's definitely not alone on this team. We have more net fly-bys per game than any other team in the league. Watch any given rush and you'll see an uncontested rebound bounce happily to a waiting defender while our guys, both shooter and trailer, skate around the net. One word: Fucking STOP! Ok, that was two, but one's for emphasis.
@TheNYRBlog but I don't wanna give up a lot for any rental... This team is still very young, don't need to be in full on win now mode
@TheNYRBlog their scoring is just so streaky. If Nash and Stepan don't score it seems like no one is gonna.
@TheNYRBlog I don't think it would impede that, consider Pyatt, Boyle etc could be gone by then and money would be there.
@jtf1218 The deadline sucks when you like your team's younger players!
@gravey94 A couple media guys just said it's a maintenance day for him, so hopefully that's the case. I was worried about that too but I think it's all good.
