The #NYR have agreed to terms with free agent defenseman Steve Eminger

Eminger had 2g, 3a in 42 games last year. He also played in four playoff games without registering a point.
...got to admit I'm a bit surprised with the signing. While I like Eminger as a veteran 7th defenseman, I was looking for the Rangers sign a player who might push Stralman and Bickel a lot harder. To me, this move is a vote of confidence for Bickel.

This also shows a lack of confidence that Sauer will return any time soon, which is a cryin shame. I hope Emmy will take this as an opportunity to raise his game a notch or two. He's not yet 29, so he should have plenty of room to improve.
I think what it came down to is that the Rangers couldn't possibly do better for the $, and Emmy clearly didn't have a single other bona fide NHL offer. Torts knows Emmy can play - he played fine til he got hurt. Where else are you going to get a guy who can play reliable D for $750k. The Rangers were the only team who knew him well enough to know he's well worth the pricetag, and they happened to need a 7th defenseman.
Holy crap I just want hockey already. I'm about ready to call and ask when midgets start...
Can't really complain. The market for depth defenseman was not at all pretty. Eminger is a veteran, knows Tortorella's system and has proven that he can be productive in that system. At 750K it's hard to find much fault with the signing. If the team needs an upgrade in February then Sather has more than enough assets to get that done.
@Herman_NYRBlog I agree. It's hard to argue with 750k...man athletes make a lot of money if we think 750k is reasonable haha
Can we really complain if the Rangers defense stays status quo? Could we have got a better signing? Yes, but this is pretty good for us.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG I agree. I don't hate the signing, but with names like Coliacovo and Brent Clark out there, I guess I was getting greedy and hoping for better.
I think this move also signals that the Rangers feel they'll be able to re-sign Del Zotto shortly.
@KevinDeLury Let's hope. I think this will be the breakout year for DZ.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG @KevinDeLury hopefully he remembers to not turn the puck over on the blue line during his breakout year.
@TheNYRBlog Depth and Del Zotto. Eminger is a depth signing and Del Zotto is unsigned. I imagine he was cheap.Righty, likeable, makes sense
@cwgatti I hear you. I don't hate the signing but I was falling in love with either Coliacovo or Brent Clark.
@TheNYRBlog Really? If this deal screwed up a possible trade for Subban, or Yandle I would be concerned. At face value, it is a depth deal.
@TheNYRBlog I don't think Eminger is a big deal or any kind of surprise. I think DZ gets signed. I was just saying Emmy makes no dif anyway.
@cwgatti And it also signals that Rangers feel confident they'll b able to re-sign Del Zotto. U assume they'd go after Yandle if they werent
