Speaking of placing players on waivers, Bob McKenzie at TSN reports that Rangers have done so to Sean Collins, Mike Vernace, Michael Haley, Chad Kolarik, Kris Newbury, Logan Pyett, Brandon Segal and Tommy Grant so that they can also play for the Whale during the lockout.
...obviously smart move to get Kreider more professional hockey experience rather than sitting on his couch all day waiting for the lockout to end.
...got to assume no GM has the balls to claim anyone else's players off waivers during these circumstances. Unless of course the GM's name is Paul Holmgren.
@thenyrblog @WeBleedBlueNYC If necessary, how about a road trip wearing our InKREIDible shirts?!? Always good cheap tickets available.
@TheNYRBlog If the NYR were smart they would grab Maxime Fortunus from Dallas based solely on his name
seems like Hags should be able to go down without waivers as well, but i'm not sure.
Honestly, it might be the best thing for Kreider, get some regular season games at the AHL level under his belt so when he comes to the big club he's hitting on all cylinders.
Are other GMs allowed to claim anyone off waivers? I read somewhere (and I don't remember details so could be wrong on this) that a special waiver period was set-up kind of with the understanding that none of these players could be claimed. Or is this wishful thinking and I'm making this up? lol
@angelzeyes2521 Not sure, but why would they even put them on waivers then? Just a formality maybe.
@angelzeyes2521 Also if that's the case I'm sure Rangers would also put Hagelin and Stepan on waivers as well to get them ice time with Whale.
@KevinDeLury I think they are required to put them on waivers. Can't look now but I will tonight and try to find what I saw. As for Hagelin and Stepan - no idea as I actually expected them + McDonagh to be sent down when period opened. Unless they aren't allowed to be for some reason.
