The New York Rangers (0-0-1) lost to the New Jersey Devils (1-0-0) by the score of 2-1 in overtime tonight. For a recap visit Yahoo! Sports and newyorkrangers.com.

...no offense and a terrible power play. Sound familiar? Ah whatever, hockey's back and nothing is going to wipe this smile off my face.

...so much for Torts' statement the other day that Eminger has been the best defenseman in camp so far.

...man, Richards better be good on the power play because that was brutal.

...sticking with the man advantage, Del Zotto looked like he wouldn't be able to run the point on the CT Whale power play right now.

...Christensen didn't play like a guy fighting for a roster spot.

...meanwhile the other bubble boy, Avery, was very noticeable and his mouth is in mid-season form.

...while he took a bit of a beating, great job by Weise sticking up for McColgan. Goal doesn't hurt his chances to stick around a little longer either.

...btw, loved the virtually all white boards.

...anyone else think Girardi looked good with the "A".

...Hank played like another Vezina nomination is in his future. Having said that I actually thought Talbot was better. Great glove hand.

...very impressed with McIlrath, Miller and McColgan. None of them seemed out of their league.

...barely noticed Erixon, which for a young defenseman is a good thing.

...similar to his play at Traverse, Thomas proved again he's not ready for the NHL.

...didn't know much about Bell when they signed him this offseason, but he's got a little offense in that stick.

...off tomorrow then right back at it against the Devils in Newark on Friday.

Torts on the game:

"It was sloppy. From where I was sitting, the ice looked terrible. [I saw] some good things, some struggles. It was a tough game to evaluate."

Torts on the Avery-Mitchell-Miller line:

"I thought Sean, along with his two linemates, forechecked very well and created some offense. I don't know about a lot of scoring chances but they created some offensive zone time."

Dubinsky on the game:

"I don't think you can base where our team is at by this game. There are so many new guys, so many fresh faces, so many guys that have never played in this environment, this level."

Lundqvist on his performance:

"I felt pretty good. It's always a little awkward in the beginning--not awkward, but you're fighting it a little bit, just the timing--but it was fun. Every game is a big step in getting ready for the season because we've been out for so long."

Weise on his fight and overall game tonight:

"I didn't like the way he was going after [Shane] McColgan--he's 18 years old--so I thought maybe I'd step up for him.

"That's the type of game I play; I'm a hard-nosed guy. I go up and down my wing, bang bodies and that's the way I'm going to play for this team if I stick around."
