Chicago Blackhawks Sign Michal Rozsival to One-Year, $2 Million Deal

Picture_3Former New York Rangers defenseman Michal Rozsival has signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Chicago Blackhawks. Rozsival, 34, played the last season and a half with the Phoenix Coyotes, but riddled with injuries. Rozsival was traded for Wojtek Wolski on January 10, 2011.

From Adam Gertz of CBS Sports:

...The addition of Rozsival helps to solidify what was an already strong blue line in Chicago that includes Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Niklas Hjalmarsson, Steve Montador, Johnny Oduya and talented youngster Nick Leddy. Given the way Chicago's goaltending situation played out last season with Corey Crawford and Ray Emery (26th in the NHL in save percentage) and in the playoffs (even worse than it was during the regular season) the Blackhawks are probably going to need a strong defensive effort...

At $2 million for just one season, Rozsival is a good value pickup for Chicago.
  • With Eminger re-signing yesterday, it begs the question: would you want another tour of duty from Rozsival to compete for a bottom-pair spot at $2 million, or are you happy with Eminger and his $750k coming back for another season?
  • Personally, I'd take Eminger back. Yes, he's been injury prone and isn't the best defenseman, but he's a good teammate and seems content in his role. At this point in his career, it's also his best chance at winning a Cup.

Stall/DZ are TRUE LD... i rather have Rozy play then go 5D and have Bickel on ice for 3 minutes of a game.. Im sure you watched and remember McD playing 50 plus minutes vs Caps vs Bickel 3 minutes..

Keep in mind that last season when Eminger and Woywitka were in the lineup at one point almost daily the Rangers had the best GGA in the league at that time.

I know, I know, Lundqvist was in goal but it is also a testament to the D as well.

Rozsival was a solid D man for Phoenix and unfortunately he got on the wrong side of the MSG faithful because he's a better all around defender than Eminger.  That said Eminger will drop the gloves for is team mates and Rozsival would rather not get his nose bloody.  We need grit in front of Hank - more than we've got actually  We need the opponent to fear steamrolling the crease or second guess going into the corner for a loose puck. ( we need to sign a young Kasparaitis hahaha)

I'd hate Rozsival on the Rangers for $2 million. And I doubt there's any way he'd want to comeback and play for a city that basically booed him out of town.
