9/11/01 - Never Forget

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

I can't believe it's been 11 years since 2,977 innocent people were murdered on a beautiful Tuesday morning in September of 2001.

While their lives may be lost, they will never be forgotten.

One image that is seared into my brain from the aftermath of that horrific event was Mark Messier wearing the helmet of fallen firefighter Ray Downey during the Rangers home opener against Buffalo on October 7th. Still remains one of the greatest sporting events I've ever attended.

So please take a second to remember those who perished that day.

Chills - wasn't a fan back then, but this is a powerful thing.

Amazing how time flies... and amazing how it never seems to hurt any less. Everybody hug your loved ones extra tight today.

The look on Messier's is a perfect representation of the shock, sadness and disbelief that everyone felt.  can't believe its been 11 years

@TheWrage @thenyrblog that whole year was amazing. The section for fire fighters+families, and the standing ovations at every game.
