...Kreider's got to learn not to throw up his hands, because when you do, you look guilty and is likely the reason the penalty was called.
H/T to reader Karl S (via Reddit).
Here's Kreider on the play (via New York Post)...
“I guess when they’re backing up, it’s their ice,” Kreider said about the explanation he got from the refs on a play in which he barely touched Raphael Diaz, who then collided with Josh Gorges, and both Montreal penalty killers fell to the ice in a heap. “I need to make some effort to get out the way. I guess stopping wasn’t enough.”
...complete fabrication by the ref. Not even in the rule book.
They should start fining the refs for their bullshit calls then maybe they will get things right. Start taking their money an see how fast things change.
I hate when the Rangers play in Montreal... What... that was a HOME game! Too bad the refs didn't know. Granted more offense is needed but the officiating, on ice and at the "Home Office", is disgraceful
Why are you guys surprised how bad they are playing? They are Torts guys playing AV system. It's east vs west. AV needs to get rid of Torts players that can't play his system.
Being there live to see how Kreider just stood there in disbelief for what felt like a full minute after this whistle blown was actually hilarious & kind of worth it.
This is still literally the worst fucking call all year. Took away Brassard's breakaway AND the powerplay we were on. Fucking joke,.
From that replay I can understand the call a little more - don't agree with it but get why that might have been misinterpreted as a penalty on the ice. Kreider needs to learn though that you can't be in a defensemen's way when they are pursuing the puck handler but instead you must leap high in the air over their heads.
I thought you were supposed to get the benefit of the doubt at home. Have we been on the road that long?
Horrendous call on CK. Doubt any bias between Toronto and Montreal. They hate each other. Toronto is like USA, Montreal like France. Greaney is right (not that they were lazy but they HAVE to score). Refs don't matter. Any time we give up 2, we should win a game. If your goalie has a 2.0 GAA you should be in the finals. Gotta start finding the net, no matter what the officials do, and they did suck donkey ballz last night I'm not denying it. Embarrassingly so. Also, the kick goal was EXACTLY the same play as the one called back on JT Miller the other night. Toronto better get it's head out of its ass. At least Dubi was cleared for his clean hit that got him tossed so Shanahan got it right but the on-ice boys blew it hard.
Kreider is standing still! it's his ice!!! is it his fault that the d is out of position and allowed a forward behind them!? this is literally making my blood boil the more I think about it!
This is another of the NHL's ridiculously vague rules. So if a defenseman is skating backwards, you have to yield an give up the blueline, yet if a forward dumps a puck in, a defenseman can completely block their path to go get it. Sorry NHL, take a lesson from baseball. It's either interference all the time or none of the time...no in between. A moving pick is one thing, but if a guy is straddling the blue line and another player runs into him, it's not interference.
this is such bs. I both love and hate the fact that refs can tweet about the game. maybe that penalty gets called, but once the ref sees the replay he would make a make up call against the Habs. total bs and Fraser should be privately disciplined for several blown calls.
Lazy teams don't get calls , teams that don't score in their home opener don't deserve anything except a loss. Torts is laughing his ass off @ this shambolic Sather lineup .
The only way that the officiating would have influenced the second goal call was if the video replay was inconclusive so the ice on the call would stand as a goal. But since they went to review the goal, they go to TORONTO and they look over the review. Hmm, Toronto, Montreal... Canada. I smell a hint of bias
Lol "I guess stopping wasn't enough". Brassard would have scored there too ok that breakaway
To be honest I think they should have called a dive... Fraser leaped in the air after kreider grazed him... But they never use that penalty call anyway
While I don't agree, apparently it was the right call according to Kerry Fraser. (Say what you want about him, he knows the sport and he's honest with his assessment of calls and will admit if they've been blown.) Honestly, I just chalk it up to "Montreal typical" lol.
Ref's blew multiple calls all night, Habs first goal, Rider yelling "boo" at blue line causing 2 idiots to collide and fall and the second kicked in goal. But that's not why we lost. We lost because Sather is an idiot since half the team does not have the skills to compete
Love the Kreider quote. Wish I could hear it to see how much "tongue in cheek" there was to the tone. He's a pretty deadpan humor sorta guy so it would be pretty funny.
With that said, refs just messed up this one. Maybe a bad angle they had on the play (though I'm playing devil's advocate here) and they thought he made more contact that he actually did?
Kreider did make a little contact, but regardless, it was incidental contact at best, cause Diaz ran into him first while Kreider was trying to hold the blue line. Was hardly a "pick" which is probably what the refs ruled.
Just pure stupidity. I didnt know teammates tripping over each others skate and the opponent trying to skate around him is a penalty but hey I guess so. Their was horrendous officiating that game . HORRENDOUS!!!!
Would've led to at least a 2 on 1, but honestly im not even sure they would have scored. still completely bull shit
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG Fraser was not the ref last night as he has been retired for years now. He just tweet about hockey still from a ref's point of view. The league has no control over him as he is a free man now.
idk if he scores but I would be nice to have had the opportunity to see the play develop. I don't care what this jerk says there's no way Kreider caused any of that. it's a bad sign when you know a refs name after a game.
@Melissa (blknblueshirts) I understand, but dumb rule. So if the D backs into Kreider and forces him offside, it's totally ok (which it would be according to NHL rules) So Kreider holds his ground, to prevent from going offsides, and it's a penalty. Sometimes I think the NHL confuses itself.
@Melissa (blknblueshirts) LOL! I disagree with Fraser here, but I'm not going to kill him b/c I use him in my next post on the kicked in goal.
@GLENsatherVSglennDANZIG @Trade DelZotto+Girardi4E.Kane Being that goalies stop over 60% of brakeaways and shootout attempts you cannot assume it a given he would have scored but what the hell, let him try - this game has become boring and watered down enough - why call something that is marginal at best and take away one of the few exciting moments of a pretty lackluster game
@shoot_the_goalie That sounds about right for the NHL. And they wonder why they are the bottom of the big sports in the US.
@FREE MASHINTER Yeah I disagree too and hope he gives more of an explanation in his next TSN article. Do agree on his (and your) view of kicked in goal.
