Pat Leonard at the Daily News caught up with numerous Rangers players at Brad Richards' charity fundraiser Tuesday night to discuss their plans if the lockout continues to drag on...
"Ryan McDonagh said he is 'openly exploring' options abroad but only would go 'if this lockout keeps stretching longer and longer and the light at the end of the tunnel looks dimmer.'"
Henrik Lundqvist added that while he has an opportunity to play for Frolunda in Sweden, he doesn’t want to rush into things.
Meanwhile Brian Boyle said he is “kicking the tires” on going overseas, while Marc Staal said he’s had “brief conversations” with his agent but doesn’t plan to seriously consider his options “for a while.”
Finally Richards he’s “not deciding anything” anytime soon.
...very interesting to see so many Rangers, who I'm sure had had plenty of offers, stick around. While I was initially against Nash going overseas because of his timing, I think it's getting to the point where these guys would be better off getting some game action in Europe to keep them sharp in the event the NHL & NHLPA can come-up with an agreement.
@TheNYRBlog didn't I say this when the lockout began?? Nash wasn't wrong leaving...still isn't wrong.
@Unclelink Only reason I felt he was wrong was b/c of the timing. Team leaders talking about sticking together & he bolted.
@TheNYRBlog end of the day if the league comes back tomorrow he is better off than guys practicing. Game shape...
