...man, that's a lot of faux recaps to write.
And if that's not enough for you to think the entire season will eventually be canceled, Michael Russo at the Minneapolis Star Tribune adds that the Winter Classic will be canceled next week...
"Why so soon? Many reasons.
Beginning next week, there are millions of nonrefundable dollars that must be committed to various entities, including the $3 million needed to rent the 110,000-seat University of Michigan Stadium beginning Dec. 1.
Unlike previous Winter Classics, this is a gigantic behemoth where the league must sell out three games in two cities -- two alumni games and the biggest hockey game ever played in the history of the world."
NHL sources tell me the NHL will cancel Winter Classic and All Star Game. Announcement presently scheduled for Monday.— John Buccigross (@Buccigross) October 26, 2012
To be clear, I've now heard Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for Winter Classic/All Star Game cancelations. I should have said next week. My bad— John Buccigross (@Buccigross) October 26, 2012
...if this isn't enough to drive you to drink I don't know what is.
Speaking of canceled games, the KHL has pulled their two scheduled games at the Barclays Center in January citing the NHL lockout as the reason.
This is f*ckin horsesh*t! What, I'm supposed to watch the Knicks and the Nets now??! What a disgrace. Sad day for hockey.
so if the winter classic gets canceled, is detroit going to get the WC again next season? if there is a next season...
Well, if the Classic gets axed on Monday, I guess we can just give up on a season for this year. Really wonder if the NHL will ever really come back from this, though.
This whole thing makes me sick...I can understand why the players feel like they are getting the "shake down" but honestly this is not going to make them unable to live financially sound. The owners are just as bad, if not worse. They both need to start thinking about the fans and the long term stability of the NHL.
I thought theyd have until atleast mid November til the Winter Classic/All Star Game would get canceled. Thats without question the final nail in the coffin for the 2012-13 season.
