Lockout News: Lundqvist Frustrated; Revised Schedule; and New NHLPA Proposal

Written by Kevin DeLury on .

It looks like at least one Rangers player is fed up with the lockout...

...easily my favorite part of Lundqvist's tweet is his hashtag of "#thefans." During this process I've been losing faith that neither the owners nor players care about the fans, but one person I don't have to worry about is Hank. He always has and always will feel a responsibility to Rangers fans every time he steps on the ice. It's why we love him so much.

Meanwhile, in the wake of the NHL canceling the first two weeks of the season, Steve Zipay at Newsday says he's hearing new schedules are being prepared, which might focus on more in-conference games.

...looks like some NHL employees are wasting their time with this project.

In a piece of good news, Andy Strickland reports that the NHLPA is working on a new proposal and will present it to the NHL soon.

...excuse me if I don't hold my breath.

Finally, if you have a couple of minutes, definitely check out this article by Nicholas Cotsonika at Yahoo! Sports in which he says everyone involved with the lockout should be ashamed.

Bettman made it a lot harder to remove him as he changed a regulation, with the approval of the owners, that only an 8 owner board can vote to remove him and of course he picked the guys who are with him on this strike leaving the other owners out in the wind. As long as Bettman still has the job after this lockout is over, all fans should boycott the arenas and let them play to empty houses. The only way to bring to fans back is to get a new commissioner with common sense, such as JD, who as a hockey guy will want to see games played and let this be the last lockout ever.

I love the people who side with the owners. They consider themselves "FANS", yet they don't respect the players, who make the game worth watching. Most have somewhat short careers, due to injury. There are very few who play past 40, that's about a 10 yr career max. Considering that NHL players are by far the lowest payed professional athletes, and of course nobody comes to watch the owners on ice playing the game, you're not a fan of the game. You are of the same mindset of greed as the owners. Go play golf!

@DIRTYOLMAN35 Actually, NFL players are "by far the lowest paid professional athletes". By half a million dollars. And the average NHL career is 2 seasons longer then it is in football.

Here's a breakdown if you wanted it.

NBA - $51.5 - 4.8 yrs

MLB - $3.3 - 5.6 yrs

NHL - $2.4 - 5.5 yrs

NFL - $1.9 - 3.5 yrs

As far as siding with the owners, I just want to see some hockey. The NHLPA refuses to negotiate, while at the same time, the offer the NHL has made to them is better then they could get from any other hockey league in world. If Fehr wants to pack up his players and start a new league, that's great, I'll watch it. If he has 30 guys who are willing to be owners under the terms he wants in the CBA, I'll watch their teams. The thing is, he's not doing this, he's sitting on his hands sulking about an offer that is better then what these guys could get anywhere else.

Screw both sides! 3 lockouts in 10-11 yrs. They are killing the game. Pretty soon Americans aren't going to care anymore, then where will they be without our market? They think they have problems now. When all of the sponsers pull out they are screwed. Greedy bums should work with me, the they'll appreciate what there making.

Well with the first two weeks cancelled, at least our guys don't have to stand at center ice in LA and watch the Kings raise their banner. Silver lining? And I think Hank is the best - at least he cares about the fans!!
